My 40k death guard in 30k? Fluff question.

I have got around a 2k list of PM and various terminators along with a few tanks.

 

My question is, how close towards the end of the HH that the death guard became what they looked like today in 40k?

 

Also, when did Mort become a Daemon Prince?

The Legion got super corrupted en route to Terra, but Mortarion only turned into a Daemon Prince after iirc with the whole plague planet thing.

 

Theres a couple of tricky parts to using a 40k DG army in 30k.

 

One ,the scale is off. This might not seem like the biggest of issues, but in a game where only the bodies count for LoS instead of everything, all your dudes being extra tall and bulky are a bit of a negative. It also means Mortarion is way too big and any blightlords you use would have bases that are too big (since all Legion terminators are on 40mm).

 

The other issue is loadout. Unless you have a very large collection, its usually a bit harder to make 30k squads that aren't just bad. We generally have a bunch of special weapons, so you could make Tactical support squads with plasma or whatever, but anything like blight launchers would need to be counts asd. The melee weapons could be used as power weapons in vet squads, but melee vets really suck. You can basically make the following with the 8th ed range:

 

Captain Typhon-Typhus

Praetor in Cataphractii-Lord of Contagion

Legion Herald-Noxious Blighbringer

Librarian-Plague Caster

Deathshroud

Legion Dreadnought-Helbrute

Legion Terminators-Blightlords

Legion Apothecary- Plague Surgeon 

Veterans-Plague marines

Tactical Marines-Plague marines 

Tactical Support Squad-Plague marines

Legion Predator Squad

Legion Land Raider Squad

Legion Artillery Squad- Plagueburst Crawler

 

The Blightspawn and Putrifier don't really have an immediate analogue, the tallyman you'd need to give a weapon to, but could be a chaplain.

 

So you would be able to play some 30k if people wave the bases on all the characters and blightlords, but the list would be pretty bad.

I think it’s fine if you have enough Plague Marines with Bolters.

 

1 LoC as Praetor

3 x 10 Plague Marines as Marines with Bolters

3 Surgeon, Biologus, Blightspawn as Apothecaries for the above squads

 

Then group your specials into Special Weapon Squads

Use your Blight Haulers as Mortars (cause they are small sized)

Use your Crawlers as Vindicators

Use your Dreads as Dreads

Haulers are bigger than rapiers by a good bit. And in addition to looking nothing like a quad launcher you'd need a couple of guys with pistols to go with them, since the crew-artillery interaction is pretty important for artillery. 

 

Crawlers are also bigger than vindis. More importantly, it's gun wouldn't be able to shoot because of how line of sight works in 30k.
