Narratives for Death Guard Warbands

I find Warhammer 40k is its most fulfilling in a narrative setting and as an exercise in creating entertaining narrative missions. So I'm going to contribute a bunch of story ideas for Death Guard and I encourage the community to supply their own ideas. We can all then use this forum as a resource for our future games using Death Guard Chaos Space Marines.

You have received a vision from Nurgle, or more likely one of his Greater Daemons, commanding you to desecrate a shrine sacred to the Eldar thereby opening a portal into the Warp.

You are a part of the seventh vectorum invading the seventh planet of the seventh system on the seventh day of the seventh week of the seventh month of the seventh year during the seventh solar eclipse over that planet following the manifestation of the Crucius Maledictum. Your mission: to abduct and sacrifice the seventh son of every aristocratic family on the planet.

The Maggot farms are beginning to run out of gruel. You must capture more humans to feed to them to maintain production of your daemon engines.

An Ork Waaagh is beginning to form. Infect its brutish leaders so that the dimwitted xenos will spread Nurgles Gifts across the sector.

A radical Inquisitor has turned to the Dark Gods but he has not yet dedicated himself to one of the great powers. Capture this man and show him Nurgle's generosity before your former brothers - the Thousand Sons - get to him first.

The Eldar have ambushed your warband during a great summoning ritual. Protect the sorcerers until they break the veil of the warp and corrupt the world.

Emperor's Children raids have gutted your cultist networks ruining decades of work. After cornering their fleet and forcing them to the planet below you must capture their leaders to find out where your slaves have been taken.

My warband is The Legion of the Ashen Choir, led by Lord Pavarottus. He and his vectorum have been wandering the Warp and the Galaxy for 10,000 years as he composes his ever growing Grand Aria of Filth. Every battle is another verse, stanza or chorus.

My Vectorium/warband is the Congregation of Filth- formerly an extremely devout Iron Hands successor chapter known as the Knights of Penitence, who met their doom when they tried eschewing the Iron Hands' traditional bionics in favour of genetically engineered biological "upgrades", which corrupted their gene-seed and left them slowly dying. They were excommunicated for bio-heresy and fled into Segmentum Obscurus, where they encountered the "Withered Seer" Maalesius Gul. He offered the opportunity for the chapter to save themselves...if they pledged themselves to Nurgle. They initially refused, and it was only when Maalesius injected their chapter master with a potent mutagenic virus that reduced him to an imbecelic ogre of a creature that they submitted. They were then folded into the Death Guard, and became a Vectorium proper, under Maalesius' oversight.

They are deeply religious followers of Nurgle, and spend much of their time in prayer to the Lord of Decay. They were master architects before their fall, and will often turn entire worlds into cathederals of plague, converting the local population to Nurgle's worship and erecting towering basilicas and mighty statues to his grand uncleanliness. As a holdover from their days as an Iron Hands chapter, they are equipped with more vehicles and wargear than most Vectoriums. They make extensive use of Daemon Engines, particularly Blight and Bloat Drones.

In spite of their skill for the art of construction, they have no permanent base of operations; they travel the galaxy on the colossal fortress-ship Abbey of Pox.

Amongst their greatest achievements was the defilation of the shrine world of Tor XV, which was achieved in a joint raid with the Emperor's Children warband known as the Legion of Vice.
