GK novel recommendations

I’ve decided I want to learn more about GK fluff and lore other than what I’ve only read in this edition and 7th edition codexes.

A quick internet search shows me that a majority of people highly recommend “the Emperor’s Gift”. Sadly it’s not easily available to me but I can preorder it for December 2018 and will read later. I’ve also seen good reviews for “pandorax” the one that features DA as well?

What’s your opinion? What other GK novels would you guys recommend? If there’s already a topic about this I apologize.

I agree with all those mentioned already.

Pandorax is great because it has a lot of scope, from Imperium fleet battles, jungle/guerrilla warfare, elite Inquisition, summoning cultists, daemons oh soooo many daemons, and Dark Angels and Grey Knights fighting side-by-side comparing each other's fighting styles/prowess is great.

If you want more GK lore I'd highly recommend Mortation's Heart audio novel. You get a lot into Draigo's personality (young Draigo is best Draigo!), and more importantly It makes Draigo's arguably most (in)famous feat actually legit. Young Draigo standing in front of Mortarion engaging in a verbal smackdown with the Daeon Primarch, before getting down to business is amazing!

The GK omnibus is great, but i feel it starts strong and ends weak.

The last book isn't really a GK book. But more some Khorne (or Conan) fan fic with a token GK hero who isn't really a GK in it.

No spoilers, it was just a very weak (themed) ending to the series.

The first though, thumbs up!

Also, still not forgiven A D-B for the op ness of Logan. ;)

Was there anything in particular you liked from the Codex fluff?

From the 7E codex I really liked The Plague of Madness, where Draigo personally leads THREE full GK Brotherhoods to a star system completely overrun by Nurgle and Tzentch Daemons!

The majority of the populace had either been tortured and killed, or corrupted and driven insane. Where the cities had become a demonic battleground in which Nurgle and Tzentch Daemons would battle each other for territory and souls. With the last remaining resistance on the entire planet consisting of a couple hundred Sisters of Battle holding up in the main Cathedral keeping at bay the corrupted populace. Think of it as Black Hawk Down, Hellraiser and Doom all mixed into one sci-fi horror setting!

GKs and SoB teaming up was done proper justice in 7E and was a way of retconning of say any "unfortunate events involving SoB" in previous GK fluff.

I've read Emperor's Gift, the omnibus and Sons of Titan. Emperor's Gift is good and I'd recommend it. The GK protagonist there is more Librarian (wizard) than regular Space Marine (warrior) which is how the GKs in the omnibus are depicted. The first book in the omnibus is alright but the two that follow are much weaker. The second book in particular was a waste of time. The third book was semi-interesting as a take on how a deamon world might operate. Sons of Titan finally was mostly basic bolter porn of the worst kind. I recommend avoiding that as well.

The codexes read too much like text books for me and I wanted something more fun! But I really enjoyed reading the stuff about Titan and the citadel and anything related to Draigo just cause he’s “our guy”.

That plague of madness stuff was awesome, and I wanna get a better idea about huge battles and Similar stuff. Are there any other novels with huge crazy battles like that? I don’t know much about the sisters stuff either, other than randomly coming across things online. We murdered a bunch of sisters and bathed in their blood?! For reasons?? Lol. People didn’t seem too impressed with that fluff.

One of the reasons why The Emperor’s Gift seemed so appealing to me is that I had read it was a story about two recruits on the path to becoming GKs and I really liked that concept. I can follow along what’s it’s like to actually be/become a GK.

I found the emperors gift online (thanks SJ) cause I couldn’t wait for the re-release in December and I’m just about at chapter 5 and am loving it so far! It’s exactly what I was looking for. I now want to somehow make an Inquisitor Annika Jarlsdottyr model. This is the kind of stuff I was looking for to make my army more personalized! Now I just need to find a female inquisitor/space wolf like model that I can customize a bit.

Has anyone read the newer Castellan Crowe story? Opinions? I’m working on a custom Crowe model from a PAGK just for the hell of it. Hopefully I’ll post a pic if I ever finish it. He just isn’t top priority ATM.

Annika Jarlsdottyr Is functionally Grand Inquisitor Greyfax, as she wears Sororitas armor and carries a Sororitas style Bolter. Although, she gave me the impression that she would have less bling, and probably quite a few Fenrisian fetishes.
