How many Repressors is too many?

Hey everyone!

So I really love the idea of Repressors being these mobile pillboxes. I am currently working on a list that includes about six of them with 5-nun units inside with storm bolters and a bunch of other stuff. I was wondering though. Repressors are pretty damn good and I don't want to turn smiles upside down. Do you think opponents would be really frustrated dealing with multiples of the following unit?

Dominion Squad (5-nun)

- Storm Bolter x5

Repressor

- Storm Bolter x2, Heavy Flamer

I was thinking of running between 3-6 of these backed up with 6 Exorcists and all 12 of the vehicles will have hunter killers as well. It is a pretty scary list imho. But I want to make sure people are not going to despair when they see me drop 12 Rhino Chassis on the board.

What size of game are you playing? Six exorcists, six repressors, 6 stormbolter doms is 1830pts...two HQ cannonesses to make it a legal detachment...

I'll admit I'm not exactly quaking in my boots. It's a lot of infantry clearing power, the girls already do infantry clearing well.

Exorcists seem great on paper but that's a huge points investment. All six shooting at one target will delete something, but positioning all six for LOS is a real pain. And like any long range shooting, they really benefit from a screen. Otherwise those Scouts or Eversor drop in and tie up one or two, maybe even three if they're really clumped together.

3 Exorcists is likely the max (also if using the organ model, 3 is likely the extent you'll want to assemble). 5-6 Repressors could work, but maybe a 3 of them with melta doms, 3 with stormbolters. Gives some points for Celestine, maybe some melta pistol Seraphim.

I'll be working towards more varied lists eventually but I'm starting out with a mobile pill box theme. The points level is around 2k.  I was thinking about dropping the Exorcists down to 3-4 but for their cost they are really quite good. They got almost a 30 point reduction with CA.

Yeah there is a ton of infantry clearing potential with all the storm bolters. But I figured that the six Exorcists and 12 hunter killer missiles should be able to take out most of the big threats that Storm Bolters would not be able to. I don't only have the Dominions, I have some troop choices in the Repressors as well. I was mainly trying to feel out if people thought bringing in that much firepower in decently hard to crack Rhino Chassis would be viewed as bad form.

I personally find exorcists to be deeply disappointing. They do an okay amount of damage over the course of a game and camp objectives fairly well, but they just don't do enough. They're too random, too command point hungry, and too easy to shut down. Every point of an SoB list has to be carrying as much weight as possible, taking exorcists gives an opponent clear things they can ignore. They can gamble on a bad turn of exorcist shooting and have a decent chance of not being punished for it, which would be devastating to your dominions.

As for using exorcists to clear the big stuff? Eh...probably not? An exorcist does 3 damage on average to a T7 vehicle without an invul or cover and right around 2 damage per turn to a T8 vehicle of the same. If you run up against something like a plagueburst crawler or even a leman russ in cover(which is hard but doable) , you're looking at less than 2 damage per turn. With 6 exorcists over 5 turns you're likely hitting the statistical average so...maybe 18 damage per turn for 810pts? To put that in perspective a squad of melta-dominions does right around 9 for 137 and a Stormraven does 10 for 358. The hunter killer missiles will do 12 damage on average in a game, again to t7 and a 3+ save. Exorcists are okay, but index armies don't really have room for 'okay' atm.

Finally, worrying about 'bad form' as an index army is silly. We don't have dark reapers or flyrants or infinite cultist, or infinite poxwalkers, or 8 darktalons. We have melta, bolter, flamer. Do what ya want. If someone gets offended that scrub should git gud.

Fair enough. Gonna knock it down to 3-4 Exorcists then for now. That will give me enough points for one Dominion squad with full meltas in a Repressor I think.

Dominion Squad (5-nuns)

Combi-Melta, Meltagun x4

Repressor

Storm Bolter x2, Heavy Flamer

I always find Dominions in Repressors to be great, especially with meltas. the one problem I run into is actually fitting them in the spots I want: any more than.4 tends to get clustered. Also, consider taking Celestine to get your Repressors a 5++

My units are going to be all over the board. So having Celestine with the list that I'm thinking of isn't really going to work. I do want her in other lists though for sure.

I think it's a good time to put theory into practice. Why not try both lists? One with Celestine, one without, see which one you like better.

For the list with Celestine, a tactic that I would recommend is trying to group your vehicles within 6" of Celestine turn 1. T7 on a 12 wound tank is great. T7 with a 5++ is better.

The other thing to remember is that Dominions get to do their scout move before the first player takes their first turn. This means they can either advance forward, or strategically reposition to move out of LOS if your opponent goes first.

Try a few games and report back with what worked, what didn't.

Yeah the Dominions are going to be out of the 6" bubble anyway. The only thing she would protect is the Exorcists. Not bad, but I don't think it is worth the points for her with this list.

I'm also thinking of dumping the Exorcists all together and rocking like Six Battle Sister squads with a multi-melta and storm bolters x2 and 3 of the Dominions with the melta setup above. All in Repressors. The whole line will move up with scary firepower. Both anti-infantry and tank. Still have some decisions to make though. I just ordered all the stuff to build one of the Exorcists. Still need to figure out how I'm painting my theme on the Rhino chassis.

I really appreciate all the comments everyone! Please, even if I counter argue a point your making, realize I appreciate your opinions.

It's all good! I'm usually in a team game, so I'm usually only looking at 1000 pts, but I usually use Repressors with Celestine and a squad of Seraphim using acts of faith to follow at least one or two. Usually the ones with melta, so I can smash the chaff and deliver the melta payload haha

That said, find what works for you and feels good.

Too many Repressors? No.

Too many Exorcists? One is too many if you are playingb to be competitive.

Exorcists look awesome, but they are a shadow of what they were before 8ed.

The mounted battle sisters would not be outside the 6" bubble though.

Other thing to think about is who is using your AoF's each turn?
