Space Marine Armament against big Knights/Titans

Since GW showed the Mini Imperator that will come with the Knights Codex, I started to wonder what Space Marines have to deal with Super Heavies. I dig in FW a bit and the Venator seens like a good choice (Big gun that cripples vehicles + points cheap).

What do you guys plan or have in mind to counter the incoming wave of Super Heavies?

Over charging the hell out of my plasma with babysitting Captains for the most part. :eek

It’s a good question I hope not to worry a lot about in the local meta most players have a single Knight, Wraith or otherwise. Spamming mini Tac squads would be my fav tactic to start but since I’m rebuilding as Primaris “only” it’s not an option. I don’t think fighting fire with fire is a great idea but Ironclads and Contemptors would seem a good mid-option.

Since I'm a BA player it's mostly just throwing Captain Smash at the problem and hope he does enough damage while eating my CP pool. :D Other than that I'd probably rely on Lascannons and Thunderhammers mostly.

He’s looking for tactica versus these babies :)

Well, camp objectives in cover (the extra bit to your save should help the units live a little longer), swarm knights with any cc options (one unit probably won't be enough, so overkill in cc), and remember that he won't have many knights, so if you play to objectives he'll be helpless to stop you.

Or, if you have dark angels, command point them to 3d each and blow the knights to little glowing chunks of ceramite...

So I bought a FW Contemptor I can go Mortis Lascannon with of just good old Kheres Cannon and Powerfist. Any thoughts on who has the edge there. Keep in mind he probably doesn’t want to ignore the 3 -5 man Hellblaster squads ... or 5 deep striking Plasma-ceptors :)

Probably the new big Knight will be toughness 9 with some solid shielding so regular plasma won´t cut it. For those that don´t get what is this about, the threat is basically "Good units to kill Knights/Super Heavies fast with SM units", in this case probably FW units since we have all the big toys there. Not make them lose time, not save from them, just good ways to bring it down those pesky Lords of War.

Lascannons.

As many as you can bring.

That's basically it for Marines.

The Venator is great, as it packs basically 5 lascannon shots onto a fast moving with no-penalty chassis, with the added bonus of making its target suffer -1 to hit if it lives.

Dev squads, preferably in cover with extra bodies, with lascannons are fairly points effecient when you factor in the signum and cherub, turn 1 you get 5 lascannons, 2 of which are hitting on 2s.

Overcharged Plasma and Meltas all really suffer when you fire them at T8, as wounding on 4s with such few shots really hurts

For BA, you've got Captain Smash, but also DC with hammers or Sanguinary Guard with fists will both do a # on any multi wound targets, but vanilla marines dont really have an effective way to deal with knights in cc except Gman.

Double grav flux bombardment leviathans.

Tried it and loved it. 2D3, S9, AP -5, 5 damage is nothing to sniff at.

Other than that lascannon devs and predator annihilators will be my go to. Three of them with the stratagem or Guilliman or both will probably do some work.

The Melta Array is actually better for loyalists for pure Tank Hunting.

4D3 shots against a single target. I run a Levi with Metla Array and Siege Drill (Will get more playtime once FW brings back the Dread Pod)

Technically a Falchion or Cerberus Heavy Tank Destroyer should be able to one kill a Knight titan in one volley, however more  pedestrian methods like massed Lascannon fire, Big squads of hellblaster heavy plasma incinerators or even, Massed Multi-melta should do the trick...

I would second what Joukernaut said about Leviathan dreads. Either double grav flux or grav flux and siege drill will eat a Knight for Breakfast.

To be honest, unless Codex Knights is really good, I don’t think you’ll have much problem dealing with them. At current prices a 1500 point game will only see three knights on the table with maybe an armiger if you run the cheaper knights with no carapace weapons. 1500 points of lascannons, hellblasters and even regular grav cannons will be able to handle that.

8th edition has not been kind to superheavies in my opinion, they’re all overcosted for how quickly they die and how little damage they do and Knights are no exception. If your Space Marines get first turn you’ll probably nuke a knight before they even get to move or at least reduce their stats to the point of uselessness. That’s a third of their army gone in a blink.

Edit for spelling :)
