Daemon question.

Recommended Posts

I have a question regarding daemons in a CSM army.

Say i take an army with detachments. Now one detachment is just a HQ, like maybe a sorc, and two troops who happen to be daemonic units. Ok, no problem so far.

BUT, what if i have those daemons summoned by a character from another detachment? Is that OK? Or can a daemon unit only be summoned by a character in the same detachment they were part of? Can a unit of daemons in a detachment of a CSM army only be summoned by a character ni the detachment or by any character in the army as long as he has the same mark or no mark?

I was thinking of an alpha legion daemon bomb wherein i use a cp to deploy a AL character behinf enemy lines in cover where he can't be seen or shot at and have him summon a daemon unit or two in the first turns. if he gets whacked somehow i wanted to still summon the daemons with other characters.

Okay it sounds a bit like you don't understand how summoning works quite right (no problem, happens to many).

The daemons you summon are in no detachment. In fact they aren't even on your army list. When you write your list you hold back points just for things like summoning (or any other other rule that creates a new unit mid-game).

So when you attempt to summon a Daemon unit you check your result, decide on a unit from the Daemon Codex you want to summon that fits the result you got and then pay the points it would cost from the points you were holding back. The summoned Daemon unit exists outside of any detachment in your army.

If you include Daemon units in a detachment, then you can't summon it anymore. You deploy and move it just like any other unit. Also if it's a detachment with units from the Chaos Space Marine and Daemon units then it's a mixed Chaos detachment so you won't get any Legion benefits etc. from that one.

So about your plan.

Hold back a few hundred points or however you think you may need. Use an Alpha Legion detachment. Infiltrate your Alpha Legion Character and summon a Daemon unit payed with the points you were holding back. If he dies before you can attempt the summoning with any other Chaos character regardless of the detachment.

The Daemons in the Chaos Space Marine Codex are just there for reference for summoning purposes. They're actually part of the Daemon Codex. So they don't get any real support in the Chaos Space Marine Codex. That's what might confuse you here.

Actually it's quite the opposite. They put the basic Daemon units in the CSM Codex so you don't necessarily have to buy the Daemon Codex if you just want to summon them. ^^
