Vehicle bits sources

Recommended Posts

So I seem to have some issues with some of my more elderly models, namely missing parts.

I've just got back into the hobby after a 13ish year hiatus and I'm trying to sort out some of my models for ETL, including some less-than-well-cared-for vehicles. Sadly, some of said vehicles are missing parts.

I'm definitely missing the underside of the turret from my Predator and the pilot's side storage hatch cover from my Landspeeder. I've perused a few bits sellers but none of them seem to do vehicle bits (which is understandable I suppose).

Does anyone know of any way of getting hold of vehicle bits in the UK, or am I destined to have to find some plasticard and scratch build replacements?

Awesome, thanks Frater. They've got the landspeeder doors I need, and I added a snazzy helmet for the pilot while I was there.

No luck on the Predator turret base though. Looks like it might be a plasticard job, or I'll treat myself to some Kromlech stuff ( iwas planning on buying a Whirlwind turret anyway).

Yeah, I found loads of stuff like that, but nowhere could I find the bottom half of the turret I actually need.

I found one bits seller that lists them, but they wanted £9 for the whole turret and were out of stock anyway.

I think it’s going to be a plasticard job for the Predator.

Unfortunately, I think you'll always find that; it's difficult for bits sellers to sell some parts on their own (especially if only one part is popular), so they tend to group them for sale.

As you found, you can often get the weapons and turret bustle as one set, the main turret assembly as another set, etc.

What's worse in my experience is that very often for the cost of base tank (say a Rhino) plus a bits-bought turret and sponsons, I may as well just buy the whole model new for the same or less. I think this is another reason you don't often see many useful vehicle parts for sale.

I suspect it was just wishful thinking on my part that I'd be able to find a replacement for part that probably isn't in high demand from a kit that probably isn't worth bits sellers trying to resell.

It turns out that I've found the bottom half of the turret lying around at the bottom of another box of stuff but, in a fit of youthful wisdom some years ago, had sawn the front off to try out some kind of half-arsed conversion. So at least I only have to reassemble the very front of the turret now.
