Plagueburst Crawlers or Hellforged Deredeo

Recommended Posts

I'm considering which heavy support unit(s) I'm going to add next to my Death Guard army.

I already have a Leviathan with x2 Grav Bombard and I'm thinking that the Deredeo would be an excellent second offensive tool. I know I could probably get 2 PBC for the price of the one Deredeo but I'm not convinced two would be better. The Deredeo could also act similarly to the Myphitic Blight-Hauler but instead of giving a cover save for units nearby it provides the 5+ invuln.

What do you guys think?

For sure man! The Levi is a beast at making things of all types disappear. I just needs to get there. The Deredeo is super versatile in that it has very power weapons at close, medium, and long range. The Greater Havoc Launcher does not need line of sight to the target in order to fire at it. I think it has a lot of similarities to the PBC but is way better at shooting.

I run 2 x crawlers and 2 x Leviathans.

Both Crawlers have flamers and are used very aggressively.

The Leviathans  - 1 with 2x grav the other with 2 x Butcher Cannon.

The leviathans put out more shots than the deredeo for a higher point investment.

The deredeo is a cool looking model though.

I really love Deredeos as they can really dish out some decent firepower especially with Butcher Cannon array and greater havoc launcher, tried out both but I really prefer the havoc launcher since it can target out of sight units like a crawler whilst the veil requires a whole squad to be completely within 6 to get the save so it  only will be able to give one small squad the inv save and have to keep them hugging the dread most of the game. Love the FW dreads mainly for the fact they can constantly keep up with my infantry and still fire without any penalties, Crawlers can be alright I just don't like using them as I prefer fielding a more infantry based force with Dreads being the only vehicles with maybe a blight hauler or 2

That sounds absolutely nasty! Papa Nurgle is pleased!

I was tempted with including 2 leviathans in my list with those exact same builds.. It's just a lot of points between the two and if I want to include Mortarion as well there isn't a whole lot more that can fit in a list.

Pretty much exactly what I'm thinking. The Deredeo also provide some very nice anti-air capability that DG is kinda lacking in.

I love my crawlers but I confess I never used the spewer sponsons, I always left that to the Blightdrones. Maybe I should have changed it up, but that S8 Ap-4 was so needed in my lists.

I haven't used them at all. When the release happened I thought the Crawler would be one of the new DG kits I'd pick up but then I read into how deadly Dual Grav Leviathans were.

I like the Deredeo can perform similarly to the PBC in a list. The Deredeo has a long range weapon that can fire at targets that it can't see, I ended up going the plasma route which is a little is 12" shorter range than the Entropy Cannons at AP-3, but at heavy 5 hitting on 2+ (no penalty with inexorable advance) I think the Ectoplasma Battery is the better weapon system between the two. Twin heavy flamers also provide some nice protection from charges.

Your instincts might be right about that but although Im considering a list for an ITC event, the PBC is easy because of the points, survival, healable through Daemons, and locally a lot of events don’t allow Forgeworld! Still though I don’t know if you can beat the raw economy of the PBC

The problem i found was that with that build it would be left not moving or hitting on 5+ (at best)

Its a very survivable model with T8, 5+ invol and DR so  Ramming it forward really draws the fire. and with a auto hitting spewer it always does something.

My that taking fire it stops people shooting my leviathans.

If they shoot the leviathans then they have a lot of flamers to the face.

My thoughts anyway.

I definitely agree with you. For me it always goes back to needs. For example if I have points for Bloatdrones, but see an issue punching armour, I usually put the PBC in that role, even realizing it probably won't move most of the game.

Secondly against Eldar/Astra I find it more valuable with Entropy and full utlilization of the indirect fire (Dark Reapers).

This conversation does make me think there might be an inbetween that could work; in my lists I usually take 2 (only own 2). Now I'm thinking I could take one with flamers, one with entropy cannons. Both advance every turn, and I use a strat on the turn I move the Entropy PBC to make it fire/act as it had not moved.

It's easy enough for me to get a dual Battalion if I use Nurgle. I could have the CPs for this... just a thought.

Well that blows dont think ill bother getting one now lol

It didn't really need access to it to be honest, that thing is a powerhouse in it's own right. I don't think a helbrute using the strat could even come close to matching the firepower of a Levi. Especially the dual grave setup

Yea the lack of strat isn't going to break a dual grav leviathan lol.

Especially when you consider you needed to not move and then shoot with your 18" gun. Not the easiest thing to accomplish when theyre desperately trying to play keep away

Even the Deredeo can do a lot of damage without it as I always use a Butcher cannon one with great havoc launcher and it is pretty good at wiping entire squads all by itself I used one as part of a my 1k force in a massive imperium vs chaos 6000pt apocalypse battle and it maganed to utterly annilate a devastator, hellblaster and interceptor squad all by itself plus since DG dreads just don't care about the negative modifiers to move and fire it is alway better to keep them moving forward to support other units

I like the way the "relic" Dreadnoughts look in my Death Guard army so I went with the Deredeo. I actually think I'll pick up another eventually so I can run 2 leviathans and 1 Leviathan. That should give me a decent amount of punch to my otherwise infantry focused army.
