Codex Magnus: For the Greater Good.

Hi guys, I'm heading back into 40k after spending some time with AoS. Now, I prefer collecting to playing so my plan is to get a 1000pts force of each faction (well, those factions I'm interested in). To start with I'll be going for the Tau. I chose the Bork'an sept because I really like their jade green (or sea green I guess) sept colours and I will be posting some pictures later, so consider this a place holder of sorts.

I probably won't be doing the traditional white armour for the bork'an sept because white is a pain to paint, so I'm considering painting them in a ochre colour like the T'au sept with the bork'an sept markings. Anyways, hopefully I can post some progress pics soon. I've also got some lore I need to finish writting, just a little snippet for the background of the army and the characters.

EDIT: I was looking for my old thread, Codex Magnus, but I can't find it, so it's getting reborn in this thread.

Welcome back!

But... no pics?

Thank you, brother! :)

I'm working on a XV8 right now and my plan was to get a picture up and running today, but I got a RL issue and ran out of time. Tomorrow morning I'll get you a picture, army list (for those interested) and the lore

Okey, picture time.

Currently working on the leg, testing how to highlight the ochre colour scheme. I'm also considering adding some camouflage, but not sure. Also, I've got a lore blurp about the army itself and the army list.

BORK'AN PACIFICATION CONTIGENT SHOI'S

tumblr_inline_op4q26e6E41tzhl5u_500.gif

In 126.M42 the T'au sept peacefully occupied the human world of Kothinga, renamed Au'hanoi, during the 5th sphere expansion. However, though the native humans we quick to join the Tau in favour for the Imperium, some resentment still remained among the more conservative population. Ethereal Aun'vre Shoi's quickly saw the need for a pacification contigent to be deployed and requested the cadre of commander Shas'el Y'amado.

As the months went by the strike teams saw themselves enganged in skirmishes with small groups of independist who saw the Tau occupation as an oportunity to rid themselves of both alien and imperial authority. Though they were no match for the armour and equipment of the fire caste, they still remained a nuissance that had to be dealt with. However, other problems soon made themselves apparent...

News arrived of a tyranid splinter fleet being in the near frindges of Au'hanoi, though the fleet seemed to be distracted by another source of life and probably would diverge it's route around the Tau colony. The Imperium however seemed like a much bigger thread, tired of the constat attacks with the young empire, a retribution fleet composed of elements of the Astra Militarum and the Adeptus Astartes, was on it's way towards the Au''hanoi. The tau began their preparations to face the inevitable wrath of humanity which arrived like a sledge hammer on both the planets moon and Au'hanoi itself. While the moon, a centre for interplanetary surveillance and communication came under attack by a strike team of adeptus astartes, the 77th and 105th cadian regiment launched themselves at the center of Tau control supported by the adeptus mechanicus, eager to claim the rich ore in the planets mountains, the city of Nu'shia'da, the beginning of a prolonged war...

And the army list:

HEAVY SUPPORT.

TX7 Hammerhead gunship with ion cannon & 2 smart missile systems. Pts: 165

I'd like to hear your thoughts on the list. My friends mainly play nids, space wolves, astra militarum and death guard, so I feel this army needs that extra distance between me and the enemy, hence the Bork'an sept rules. But yeah, that's the plan for the 1000pts of the army.

Yay, photo update :D So, a Bork'An drone in arid desert land camouflage, tell me what you think:

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the camouflage. Also, sorry for the blurriness, my picture taking ability is not great

Nice! I'm liking the camo scheme. More, please!

Thanks, glad you like it :)

Looking great!

Thank you friend.

Now, a quick question: Where do you put tau pistols and knives, anybody knows? Are they located at the hip or on the backpack, I really can't seem to find an adecuate place for them.

And hopefully tomorrow I'll have 2 more fire warriors done, but I won't be applying the camouflage scheme (yet), I want to take a comparison foto and hear which one you people think looks best.

Loving the pics of the Tau so far and the paint scheme. Makes me want to go back to the Tau after being away for so long :3 Not sure about the pistols as you can probably go without showing them on the model but for the knife you should be able to glue them on flat on the back.

Ok, finished the Shas'ui Da'yoi of the strike team. Tell me, what do you think looks best, with or without camouflage? I'm kind of in the middle myself, I can't seem to decide. For now I'll go without the camo since it's MUCH easier to apply the camo patterns than removing it.

Aaaaand back again with a new update. 3 fire warriors, 1 gun drone and the missile-turret-thingy.

Hope you like it, I also really need to learn how to take proper photos. I am however considering making a large scenic base for all the units that fit in my display case, any suggestions on how to do that?

Oh and as you can see the camouflage stuck and I went along with the classic T'au white sept colour instead, the blue wasn't working for me.

I've managed to scrounge up Codex Magnus Vol. II (with Google's help...), aannddd Liber Magnus, (also with Google's help...), but unfortunaetly the original Codex Magnus thread remains....illusive....

Well, darn it, that's a shame. I had been hoping to jump back to it, but I haven't had any luck either finding it. But since all the old photos on Codex Magnus (Vol, 1 and 2) where with photobucket I've pretty much lost them all, so it doesn't matter. I'll just rename and keep going from here, might repost some new pictures of old minis just for fun, to see the diference :P

Little update. I've finished now the ethereal, 5 fire warriors, a turret and a drone, I'll get you some pics later, but I want to try and get a good quality image so I don't know how long it will take.

But in the meantime I'm working on one of the XV88, and just to show you the base which is the only parts (nearly, I'm still missing the grass and brown border, but that will be the last part of the mini) finished.

Mayor update time! Here is my first XV8 Crisis suit aaaaaand I'm going to do a mostly mechanised army now  Seriously though, I really love the tau suits and I will be going for a very armour focused 1000pt army instead of my original plan, with only 2 small 6-man strike teams to hold objectives and give a bit of long range support (with the additional 6" from the Bork'an sept special rule my friends will hate me, specifically the three playing Imperial guard and tyranids). Anyways, enough talk, here are the pics:

I really love the 'tiger' pattern of camouflage I've been doing, it looks great on the big armour in my opinion. And I tried some plasma lighting on the guns, but Im not sure about it, any comments?

Crisis suit looks great and the tiger camo makes it even better! The plasma glow also looks nice and vibrant enough, no need to go overboard on OSL.

I'm looking forward to seeing an army of these.

Thank you :D And I promised a picture of the ethereal a while back and I finally got around to doing it. As per usual the quality of the picture is not great, but I have in mind building a lightbox this summer so they can be improved.

The ethereals armour is white instead of beige/camouflage simply because, well, he's an ethereal. Considering his the "goberner" of the planet in my army lore I feel he should look the part. I'm working on two drones to accompany him, both also in white and red.

I probably won't be using this guy in any games, since I don't see the ethereals as being really usefull in mechanised armies but he will be a nice centerpiece.
