New to the knights, would like some advice

Soooo, I recently picked up a deal on a grey knight army, with the intention on reselling it and keep the NOS stormhawk interceptor wich was included in it for my ultramarines.

Then I opened the codex and read a little bit of fluff and got hooked.

I bought one box of strike squad to get some bits to fix up the army.

So now I'm stripping models, and thinking about army lists.

I went to read this forum and noticed the negativity surrounding the knights, wich nearly convinced me to resell the knights.

I'm looking into trying a heavy alpha strike list (now that I still can, the FAQ is only beta), because that's how the knights seem to roll. I play in a semi competitive to fluffy environment where having fun is the most important factor.

The models I picked up are:

Draigo

Voldus

Librarian in terminator armour

Chaplain in terminator armour

10 man strike squad with various weapons, hammer on the justicar

5 falchion termies, psi cannon, hammer on the justicar

5 sword termies, psilencer, hammer on the justicar

Apothecary

Paladin ancient

Venerable dread with twin las

3x5 man interceptors squads all falchions, psilencer, hammer on the justicar

Purgation squad (al weapons available), falchions on justicar

Nemesis dreadknight

Landraider

My inital idea was to run a list with interceptors, purgation squad and voldus on the board, while deepstriking a GMNDK, 2 termie squads, the 10 man strikesquad and the apothecary.

Inerceptors teleport up the board, and voldus gates himself or the purgation squad, wichever i think is best suited to move up, the other joins next turn.

The stormbolters delete all the screens of infantry, hope to stay alive to move in and smack tanks with hammers the turn after. Maybe pick of 1 vehicle with the purgation squad and the dreadknight.

I would love to play a grey knight army without vehicles, so I'm wondring if this list has the potential to do some work or if there's a better way to go with the models I have.

I plan to do a testrun with them in two weeks against eithe demons or necrons.

Your base is fairly solid. If you're playing with the beta deep strike rules, you'll find yourself limited a bit. If not, you can be in the face of your opponent with ease.

Interceptors are pretty good. Since you can deploy them behind line of sight and in cover, you should be safe for an opponent starting first turn. The GMNDK is a beast and will do work, whilst taking a lot of punishment.

Terminators suffer a bit, but Paladins are pretty good. They share models, so you could always give both a go.

Voldus and Draigo at both solid choices, so it depends on what you're looking for. Against Necrons, I'd be inclined to take Voldus for even more of a dominating psychic phase.

Apothecaries are fantastic. They just smash things to bits, so that's a good start too. You do need to make sure you get there though! Charging can be a challenge. That's why a Stormraven isn't bad at all. It's a fire magnet though, so if you can deploy it behind Los, it's a pretty big plus.

Grey Knights may not be the strongest or easiest army, but I love what they do, and how they look.

Thanks for the feedback.

Good to hear that my base is solid.

I agree that a raven isn’t bad, my ultra’s have one. I did read they are fluffy for the grey knights as well. But I’m still more looking to create an “in your face” deepstriking infantry army.

I’m hoping the knights will deliver, I’m growing more fond of the fluff and the models every second.

Is there any way to make purifiers work when deepstriking? I like their idea, but 3 inch range seems very hard tonpull off.

It's challenging. A Brother Captain will help doubling the range, but even then it's fairly short range. If you fail a charge, you'll have difficulty getting in useful smite range more than once. Since they can't innately deepstrike, you'll have to spend a command point on it as well. Since your psychic phase happens before charging, you won't be able to use it that turn. A delivery system is most certainly preferable to get close.

Don't expect to play in a competitive environment and do well with a pure Grey Knights army. We lack a lot of the tools that are necessary to compete.

Try and encourage your group to play narrative games using PL and narrative missions instead of the standard matched play missions, try different styles of play like campaigns or 'hisorical' refights, what-if scenarios, etc. Basically just remember that it's YOUR game and have fun with it!

Dear Brother, thank you for coming in the Titan's House in this dark moment.

Unfortunately after the last BETA rules it is very difficult to have a good deep strike strategy, and in any case, purifier are garbage. I hate that this is the situation, I love purifier but they are unplayable. They are just overpriced PAGK.

We are thinking on a different way to play GK because DS has been heavily nerfed. Look on the other topic to have some other advice. ;)

Thank you all for replying, all very welcome info.

I’m looking forward to fielding my knights of titan in their very first battle.

Shame about the purifiers, they seem so cool from a fluff perspective.

I do realise that playing infantry only is suboptimal, but I’m going to try to make it work.

I’m curious how hammers deal with tanks.
