"volunteers" for the ranks: Possessed Space marines

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just wanted to share some pics with you guys to see what you think.  Ages ago I acquired some second hand Possessed Space Marines and as a Dedicated Thousand Sons/Tzeentch Daemons player I thought it would be good to get some decent melee troops into my army.  Well I never got around to it.  They have never seen the tabletop. Their rules were ok but I think they were overpriced at the time and also... I wasn't sure I liked how the models looked. Even thought there were a bunch of different bits in the kit, there were a load of reoccurring parts I kept noticing and it bugged me.

One Idea I had to make them look a bit different was justification to have them in my army... Unwilling Volunteers.  My Thousand Sons would capture the enemy and them perform rituals to bind daemons into their bodies, rather than my Sorcerers giving up their own minds to the denizens of the warp.  The different colour schemes then would help break up the patterns in the models. I also started to do things like, give one a new sword arm I took from a Grey Knight and serrated its edge. Different... but that wasnt enough.  All those infinite varieties of warp entity swirling around the warp and the Possessed end up looking this similar? I'm not buying it.

So I started the unit for real, converting the models into more and more elaborate forms.  This post I'll be updating with my progress painting them as I've nearly finished converting them all, just a few finishing touches to go. Rather than painting them in passes, as they all have different colour schemes I'll be doing them one at a time, perfect for this WIP.  I hope you like them!

(I'll be posting more info and pics on our blog www.Krakendoomcool.wordpress.com

Cool idea! Fits very well. I know what you mean by lack of variety on the possessed. Often thought the same (I don't own any though).

I love the sprint on the mini Thirster. I look forward to seeing what else you come up with.

There are a few more angles of photos on the blog if you want to see them.  Hopefully it wont be long before I have some more Possessed up!

I hope these arent disappointing for those of you that enjoyed my other ones.  I do have some much more elaborate conversions to come. These are all still from the few that I was not that confident modifying. Next up to paint is an Ultra Marine and Dark Angel, and I'm working on converting an Iron Hands and a Salamander.

Oh cool, thanks. I second guessed posting the ultra matine because i hwve done so little to him, just modified his head a touch. Went with slaaneshbecause of the fencing style pose (all the original models were second hand and pre built).

Im prett happy with the Dark Angel, ive never sxulpted a cloak before. And yeah... The syes sre not meant to make you feel warm and fuzzy. :D

  • 3 weeks later...

Just in case any of you guys are interested in the progress of this project, I've moved it over to the WIP section after some encouragement from Krakendoomcool.  Plenty more to come, and this time with some of the progress pics.  Thanks for your support and encouragement guys.
