Core of a very small ITC Custodes in 1 Month

Here's something crazy I'm thinking of doing, but I have only a month.

I'm in an ITC event next month, it's only 1750 points, and I really miss my Custodes. The plan was to restart them....

Do you think it's reasonable to expect I would not get tabled in every game with 1750 of (nearly) pure Custodes?

I'm going to be honest the strength of the list would come from such favourites as Bikers.....

I did the math, and I needed a plan B built into it.... Reasonably I have to expect to do a minimum of 16 models. It would include softer choices like: Trajan (nice 250 Point model), 4-5 bikes, a bike captain, and obviously a core of 9 Guardians.

Sound too crazy? In a month? The "Plan B" becomes the list shrinks down to 16 models to include something to fill points like.. .the dreaded Landraider. I honestly don't mind it. It's not optimal but sitting next to Trajann it can be a threat. Combined with the Imperialis Magnifica not that easy to one shot anymore.... with Alpha Strike gone.

I'm basically down to my Deathguard or this crazy idea of redoing my Custodes at 1750 in ONE MONTH.

+++ I know I'm  not going to said tournament to win... it's ITC, I'll get knocked around pretty good, but would it be terrible to do this? Would I end up getting annihilated? Or perhaps open with a big loss and fight for middle ground? Or all things considered, including my time limit, am I just crazy?? +++

This would be for a no holds barred ITC event. So you would expect Deldar/Reapers, Astra/BA, Flyrant spam (FAQ in effect though), stuff like that.

I realize going in that I’m not going to be capable of presenting an ITC level competitive list but I also don’t want to pay that much money to spend the weekend packing my army up in T2. ;)

Lol I gotta be honest I don’t think I can do this. I started the army tonight. I painted my last Custodes fairly timely but I don’t think I can assemble And paint the list in now under 30days.

Ah well I bit off more than I can chew.

As far as the FAQ I thought it helped me..the Landraider can’t be nuked by Cacaphony Oblits on T1, smite spam gets turned down , and I get 2 bonus command points!

I know Alpha is gone but at 1750 I would not have got Allarus into the list anyway (but I have no problem waiting till T2 leveraging the Vexilla Strat)

Any way... live and learn. I think I bit more than I can chew!

Come on man! It can totally be done! Go for a solid bassist, was and one additional layer and you can knock these out in no time, then after the tournament you can finish painting them to your usual standard! Don't short cut , just stop when they are a couple stages from "finished"!

I think you should still go for it!

You know you guys are a bad influence right? lol

Did you see my last Custodes army? That was a real... task (I don't want to say 'grind' but you get the idea).

You guys are evil temptresses!

Prot, how familiar are you with ITC missions?

I was very familiar with the old ones but not t the new ones. I understand it looks like there’s a lot of squatting on multiple objectives. Making my pure Custodes look fairly disadvantaged. But that’s okay. With my time limit.... lol

Start practicing a lot. It takes some games to get down with the new format. I’ve found its best to focus on scoring the primary objectives (Kill an enemy unit and hold an objective). You can pickup the secondary points over the course of the game.

Yea those secondaries...

this is why Custodes is such a challenge. Not only would I have the crazy task of painting/assembling in such a short time, but getting used to the army (I've only played about... 5-8 full games at 2K with them (Mostly modified Maelstrom).

I am still skeptical. With my Deathguard I understand my options against a large base of opponents a lot better (Just from experience), so I could concentrate on playing more ITC missions.

The secondaries are almost too much. They could have scaled that down and still had a very dynamic system which I do think I like the look of better than their 7th edition stuff. (scoring turn and battle round is a good addition)

Anyway, I have a few ITC opponent practice games lined up already (3 so far).

I am confessing right now that Custodes is probably my least favourable chance for ITC on a few levels, but I am testing probably 2 armies, both this weekend.

My First Custodes List is admittedly the easiest for me to create, thus it will be played first!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have played several ITC test games. What blows my mind is I have been able to beat lists I cannot touch with my Deathguard. The only reason I can figure for this is I have always played small, elite armies more comfortably than spammy armies.

I just beat a pretty filthy Dark Eldar army that nearly tabled my Death Guard.

So far I have nearly finished 3 bikes, a banner bearer and about half done another Valois (he’s really slowing me down ).

I ordered the rest of my stuff from a retailer from a different province....I didn’t get it until this afternoon.

I would have to finish 9 Guardians, 3 bikes and a Contemptor in 15 days. Lol

So I guess that settles that. I’m a little disappointed but oh well.
