Hello All. I am looking for ideas for a reasonably competitive army at 1250 points. I have a local tournament coming up and having a hard time cramming much in at that point level. Right now my two main concerns are, lots of +X psykering (Ie: Magnus, Ahriman, Term Sorc) for bringing the smite and some sort of rubric/Tzaangor combo for command points, objective control and screening. Any help or advise is appreciated, Thanks!

I also have a large Tzeentch Daemons collection if any ideas include them lol.

Don't have much experience with the thousand sons yet, but I think you'd want ahriman and a daemon prince as HQ's. Magnus is decent for his points, I think, but he takes up a third of your army. That's a lot in one basket.

Here's a suggestion:

Ahriman on disc

Exalted on disc (I know I said DP, but points are tight afterall)

5 man rubric squad with warp bolters

10 man rubric squad with warp bolters and soulreaper cannon

23 man tzaangor unit with brayhorn (you can't do tzaangor bomb turn 1 anymore, but they're still going to hurt)

Tzaangor Shaman

9 Enlightened with bows

Defiler with twin lascannon and defiler scourge

That's 1250 on the dot. Replacing the exalted sorcerer on disc with a DP requires sacrifice of about 6 tzaangors, something I'm not sure is worth it, when taking a fairly big tzaangor unit, as they will not be as efficient. I could easily be wrong though.

I'd love to have the luxury of not bringing Magnus but it's more than likely that I'll be needing to take out things like Primarchs, Knights and possibly FW units so hes going to be an auto for now.

I've come up with this so far, testing this week.

Magnus

Ahriman on disc

Terminator Sorc with Fam

20x Tzaangors w/ blades

10X Tzaangors w/ blades

10x Tzaangors w/ blades

9x Enlightened w/ bows

Shaman

=1247

OR THIS

Magnus

Ahriman on disc

9x Enlightened

Shaman

21x Tzaangors w/ brayhorn

=969 points

+

The Changeling

The Blue Scribes

10x Brimstone

10x Brimstone

10x Brimstone

=276

All Total - 1245

I dont have much experience playing TS myself but just to throw my 2 pennies worth in, I prefer the second list with the daemon battalion, gives the extra CP with more smite possibility (make sure to smite with the changeling first). One thing to add is that you have enough points to put a blue horror in one of the squads instead of a brimstone, allows you to try and smite with them without killing a horror.

Don't be afraid to bring cheap troops like cultist/horrors, in tournament securing objectives goes a long way.
