Star Phantoms as DA successors : a new ETL tale

Hi there, long time without posting on this board as I was busy with deathwatch and Admech project.

I'm back here with a new project for my unforgiven.

Having reached my goal for my Dark Angels collection (just missing a few tanks here and there), I wanted to start something new for my unforgiven. As the primaris were released, I felt that I had to get a few units to have the possibility to play them (I love trying new things and I hate not have the units to try).

But I didn't want to paint more green. After 15000pts, I wanted something new.

So I chose a successor. But here again I wanted something more original as the standard ones we all know.

That's why I've chosen the star phantoms.

Why? i loved the fact they are not officially recognized as successors, I love their chapter symbol and I wanted to work white from using Rakarth and Pallid flesh with battle damages : this fit perfectly.

The basic treatment of the armour is

Rakarth flesh

Nuln oil

Pallid Wych Flesh

Edges with scar white

Battle Damage with Eshin Grey

You'll notice that every marine has his helmet (I've modified some of the Dark Imperium marines so that they actually wear it). I consider in my fluff that they don't remove their helmets in public.

So here's the first units :

Lieutenant :

Hellblasters :

Chaplain :

I try to alternate a 5 men squad with a character or a vehicle, I'm on giving the final touch to a intercessor squad and I think I'll do a primaris dread after that.

Vehicle symbols are from Martillo y Cola, Shoulders symbols from Pop goes the Monkeys, both on shapeways.

I'll post my work during the ETL (and after!) here.

Feel free to comment ;)

Great work, I realy like your job at the white armor. Keep up on that level and it will be an awsome army to look at.

Yes these I like a lot. Really digging the osl glow from the eye lens' and the war torn scuffed and dinged armour. This coming from someone who paints clean and avoids OSL for fear of over doing it like I've seen done way too many times, Fantastic work I eagerly await more.

Great work mate Been wanting to do Star phantoms for a bit and finally bite with the Primaris releases.

How did you do your weathering on the feet . Trying to figure out a good technique to learn to show the natural dirtying of whites on the battlefield. Had some success with spritzing my plague marines

The weathering on the feet is done with terracota pigments applied with alcoholic/gasoline solvant., then brushed.
