Sorry for the lack commentary everyone - time has caught up with me. I will be adding comments here in the weekend. Until then please see the table below for the Week 6 rankings.

Just the table today but as you can see, we're sat in fourth place on score. However, considering we have the second highest points pledged and our historically high completion rates (we actually hold the joint record high of 82.5 %), we are actually in a pretty decent position as we grind our way through the sludge month.

Keep focused folks, get your vows done before being distracted by, say, Necrons (or anything else with a new book), and we'll prevail :)

So work has decided to screw us again, they are sending me away from home for a few weeks.

I am still making progress, here's an update on my Relic Sicaran before detailing and weathering:

Maybe hold off on the Thunderhawk then? :(

Still, the Sicaran looks great so far - it looks like it went together OK?

Progress:

Could do with getting me one of those... Fun to paint?

And I've managed to complete Astorath :cool.:

Hope mine comes out that good, well done :)

Much left to do with this vow?

And 3rd vow? :)

...well that answered my question :p

Your work is so neat - any tips beyond the "multiple thin coats" and "take your time"?

Thanks Jolemai! Tips on what specifically?

I could probably talk whole day about it without directions ;)

Edit: and I really hate multiple things coats :D it's just a sometimes necessary evil.

I brought this squad to near completion as far as paint goes. Overall I like them but there are a few things I'm not fond of. Buying a gunmetal color would be less time consuming than 5 black washes over metal. It would also be cleaner. The GW way of Gold that I'm using is not great looking, at least when I do it. I'm torn between applying the final color to it in highlight or using my Testor's gold and calling it done. The eyes on mr. helmetless man need some touching up. @_@ The red looks great in these shots but in more normal lighting conditions they seem darker. I might spice them up and go for that bright red I love about BA. Although my painting is very basic and factory fresh for the most part, lowering the resolution on the pic for size hurts the overall show here.

Next step is getting my butt in gear to crank out the other 10 guys. Decals will be done en masse at the end of painting the vow.

Gunmetal would also be my go-to silver, however I like mixing colors, so I use Runfang instead. But always with addition of black. That way also gives me better coverage of the paint. I's also easier to darken the paint than to lighten it in case you run out of one.

Numerous Black washes also tend to dull the silver (although my pot of Nuln Oil aften gives a sheen... :unsure.:  which I then have to negate with matt varnish)

Same goes with gold - I always add brown (1/6) to enhance coverage capabilities. And I like my gold warm and soft.

Your base red is Mephiston Red, Right? It tends to be close to 'burgund/wine' color, so your perception is corrects, thats it's rather darker. If you want to brighten it, add highliths. Evil Sunz Scarlet is close. I like applying it as a light drybrush for the plates building it up in desired places. On the edges I add solid lines, but for me ESS is not enough on the edges and I highlight further adding yellow and a bit of white ESS.

I would add a wash (Agrax) to the gun straps. Especially on the grenade launcher guy.

Overall - these are very nice, neatly painted miniatures!

Where would the fun be in that!

I'll lose some time but not so much that I won't be able to get the T-Hawk done.

If not, I have a backup of 3 Land Raiders and a Spartan that need to be painted/re-painted.

Cheers

Well, they do say that you don't make friends with salad ;)

My concern is that in the ETL if you fail a vow it nullifies any previous points you've already earned for us. So whilst I'm happy for people to go nuts, there's only six weeks (and one day) left...

WIP update;

med_gallery_104017_14504_1313537.jpg

Have to say, the Lieutenant stripes kinda suck to paint.

Looking good!

As for stripes, there a guide somewhere in here. Perhaps it will help? :)

Very crisp work; you certainly seem to be enjoying the larger canvass offered by Primaris :smile.:

What "gun metal" colour are you thinking of? Is it Vallejo that do one?

If i may, I'd also like to echo Majkhel that a recess wash on the browns would make it "pop" better. Personally I'd use Chestnut Wash but I suppose Agrax Earthshade is the best choice in new money?

I have NEVER heard that one before.

Yeah, I'm not going to vow something I can't complete. The Landies would take me 2 weeks if I had a straight run of evenings with none of this work nonsense keeping me away from my painting table.

Cheers

I used a small piece of painters tape down the middle, and painted the yellow around it. Really, the big pain is the fact that its yellow, the color of pain, loss, and I don't know how many coats I had to put on by the time I was done. :dry.:

Yellow is the bane of my existence, Mostly because my other army is Bad Moons

Try a basecoat of Celestia Grey first :)

Just a quick update so you know I haven't forgotten about my vow! I'm mostly finished with the bulk of the models (Intercessors, Company Vets and Inceptors). I'll get a progress pic up when those units are done.

After that it's down to the two characters, assault squad and the Knight.

The Knight will be the last model I start. Partly because it's a big model I want to work through from start to finish but also because I haven't decided on a colour scheme yet :p I was going to pick one of the houses based on the new traditions etc. but then realised I'd need 2 more to get access to those (or 2 of the smaller versions, but they're still not cheap points-wise). As I use the Knight as a lone LoW support for my various Imperial armies it looks like even with the Codex I won't get access to the 'extras', so I might just paint it up in whatever scheme pops into my head.

For some reason I'm thinking tiger stripes...

I didn't have a specific gunmetal color in mind yet. I suppose Majkhel is right. It's nice to control the darkness of the part. Besides, it looks extremely nice on guard heavy weapons. :biggrin.:

The leathers will have a lighter color kind of messily streaked to give it a more worn non-uniform coloration. After that the agrax shade should bring the colors together.

What would be the opinion on trying to freehand some tiny decorative swirl motifs on the armor for that artisan touch? It would be in a color only slightly lighter than the base red.

@Majkhel

When you add brown to your gold are you adding it directly to the mix or basing gold areas in brown first? Does the brown seem to make the gold area more accepting for washes and highlights rather than the thick..."coverage" the straight gold would?

Okay so I was going to say "no more WIPs until they're complete" but I can't keep you all out of the loop forever

So here is some progress. Added in details, some weathering powder and started the basing.

We're almost done now... To finish:

  • Powder - not going to go OTT but I think some more rust on the weapons is needed.
  • AK Oil/ Engine Grim effects - going to have some fun with these.
  • Basing - shade, drybrush, tufts and barbed wire.

Summer classes are almost over which means I'll be able to finally finish this snail paced vow. Just a little update, I've gotten all the bases ready, one Inceptor completed, one Inceptor in need of cleaning up and washing and one that I haven't touched yet.
