If I can only offer a squad or 2 at max, is it worth me going for it? I don't want to massivly drag down your average vow numbers and the like and since I'm looking to move house soon a squad or 2 is likely all I can get done the entire ETL

Thanks for the encouragement, fellow heretics! Glad to see lots of armor among the vows.

Made some smallish progress on Jagda, slow going since I am having to scrounge and re-purpose a fair amount of bits. But it has gotten spikier, and corpsier, and that warms the cockles of my heart, and hopefully y'alls too.

If anyone has constructive criticisms, I am all ears. I want this thing to look freaky and beefy.

hhv1gNe.jpg?1

The corpses are bones miniatures manufactured by Reaper, and I really like how soft and pliable they are. I can abuse them quite a lot in order to get them to lie reasonably flat. Considered adding more spikes impaling them, but that seems overly violent and bloody. Probably just going to chain them up and let them decompose in relative peace. The 49th are not mad barbarians, after all.

iRAj8oA.jpg?1

As you can see, I added a happy little gunner to represent the heavy stubber. I don't really like his vox unit, though I know I want to put something strange on his back just to liven up his silhouette and keep him from falling through the cupola. Might just be a nurgling in the end.

tkgI1ot.jpg?1

Closeup of the lascannons and exposed power cabling. Terrible and delicate design on a big armored thing, but self-propelled guns like these are meant to be hidden and ambush the enemy, and my regiment were originally tunnel fighters and void cave specialists, so cramped airless passages mean fixed, forward facing guns are doctrinally acceptable... or at least that is what I pretend.

ikK6Dkp.jpg?1

The green fuel tank in the back looks cockeyed because it is; dang thing isn't glued down and I just stick it on for picture time.

Still have a final autocannon to mount... somewhere. Might have it to stick it on the underside of the front armor between the treads, but the thing already has so many guns as to be ridiculous.

I LOVE THIS TANK! It has a... T 34 quality! And all the Chaos decoration - that's what the Lost and the Damned are all about!

Good to see you siding with the L&D Spafe - good luck mate. You don't need the pics to have your vow registered but when you do get them, please edit them in your original vow post.

Been making progress.

Jagda has been eating up the majority of my toy-cutting-n-painting time, but it is largely assembled. I am going to prime it next, then paint it, and then fiddle with chains lashing down the corpses as a final step. This isn't just procrastination- painting around the chains on the sentinel was bad enough and I think painting the bodies to any reasonable standard is going to be pretty difficult otherwise.

nSCQxAd.jpg?1

I also added a gunner that I actually like- I lucked out and found a spare hell talon pilot I had lying around. Gave him some extra armor and a laslock so he can blast some loyalists. I know it isn't a heavy stubber, but whatever; this entire project is just one big exercise in 'rule of cool.'

LbZwheL.jpg?1

"Ready for your closeup? Good! Everybody say 'lyssavirus!'"

TeaDU2Y.jpg?1

And finally, I have settled on a color scheme for my regiment's vehicles. Up until now the 49th's armor has been steel grey, and while it doesn't clash with anything and is pretty 'realistic,' it is boring as purgatory to paint and look at. I ended up with a really dirty yellow, which I like for all sorts of reasons. It reminds me of the scabrous rags of the King in Yellow, and the original 'mad dog' was called ol' Yeller. The color also works reasonably well with my Death Guard, who look similar to the Apostles of Contagion and are a pretty yellow-y green.

My sentinel still needs its plasmagun painted, but I think you get the idea. Chained trophy parts, blood and rust, and defaced Imperial symbols. Kinda wish the bright light didn't make the severed head look like a chrome dome. Midnight photography with an iphone is a pain.

Now if only I can remember to prime the cultists and mutants before work tomorrow!

Jagda and lyssavirus look AWESOME! Great work there Azekai! Dirty yellow also looks the part. I really like the effort you're putting into Chaos-ifying your Guard man... Kudos!

I, Tamika Oni, rise to the challenge of E Tenebrae Lux.  I declare for the Lost and the Damned & Ashen Veil system under the guidance of the Warmaster.

Introduction

They knew the system was called Minerva, but nothing of the unknown forces that overthrew the oppressive regime of the Imperium thousands of years ago. After the revolution an attempt by the Imperium was made to regain the system but their fleet did not arrive intact. Hundreds of years of brutal civil wars ensued. Jealous rivals seeking to take control of the system for themselves, Chaos cults hoping to turn the people to their patron deity; and worse. These wars have made the cultures of the system produce hardened warriors whom respected life but would rather die than be enslaved. The system was finally united when the Prophet Tamika Oni led the peaceful rebellion against the Grey Dragon Dynasty of Minerva IIIa. She and her disciples took control of the Government and ordered immediate elections, where they won an overwhelming majority thus securing control of the both planets. Several years and many tactical nuclear strikes later the entire system was united behind Tamika Oni. Her dreams and visions of a brighter future for its citizens were enough to maintain the peace and form a loyal core of believers that would govern and maintain order on the six worlds. The system was united once again, but no longer subservient to the oppression of the Imperium. Tamika Oni died of a mysterious illness shortly after. The Council of the Five took over: an elected official from each world (Minerva IIIa & IIIb only got one seat) who then elected a Supreme Overlord. With relative peace in the system and everyday problems left to the governing bodies on each world, it was the Supreme Overlords job to organize the defense of the system to external threats. Despite thousands of years of isolation from the oppression of the Imperium, there was still regular warp travel and communication in and out of the system, in small warp-capable vessels. They were as well-prepared, as much as any human force could be, for the horrors of the Galaxy.

Minerva - Red Dwarf
Minerva I - Agriculture World (~2billion population, extreme climate, hot and humid, nuclear fallout) Main Faction: Aurora Dawn
Minerva II - Agriculture World (~5billion population, temperate climate, small oceans, hurricanes, nuclear fallout) Main Faction: Union Militant
Minerva IIIa - Hive World (~150billion population, double planet, vast deserts, little water, freezing poles, high gravity and escape velocity, dense atmosphere, system government centre, nuclear fallout) Main Faction: Grey Dragons
Minerva IIIb - Forge World (~3billion population, double planet, temperate world with small oceans and rich crust, centre of power) Main Faction: Grey Dragons
Minerva IV - Ocean World (~1billion, floating cities, abundant and diverse sea life, frozen polar caps with millions of rocky islands) Main Faction: Aurora Dawn
Minerva V - Hive World (~65billion population, thin atmosphere being terraformed, cold but habitable, small deep seas linked by cracks in the crust, acid rain, nuclear fallout) Main Faction: Union Militant
The Ashen Veil - Debris Belt (tens of thousands of interstellar vessels torn to shreds as they dropped out of the warp near Minerva VI, massive pirate activity in this area)
Minerva VI - Brown Dwarf (retrograde orbit, unnatural orbital velocity, dozens of cold dead moons, pirate bases, deadly radiation)

All the planets apart from Minerva VI orbit closely together just within the habitable zone of their ancient sun. They are similar in size to Holy Terra, apart from Minerva IIIa which is a super-earth. Minerva IIIb is tidally locked to Minerva IIIa. The Ashen Veil is visible on every planet even during daylight hours.

The system has two hive worlds and so there are no shortage of recruits or hardened veterans from the recent civil war to lead the system in its defense against the threats of the Universe. The system is near the Eye of Terror and they have avoided being destroyed by various Chaos Warlords through delicate diplomacy and a tenuous relationship with the Black Legion. Such interstellar diplomacy with Chaos, Xenos and other Renegade Forces is controlled by the Grey Dragon Dynasty. Dangerous rifts and warp-storms and strange gravitational effects around the system have deposited thousands of large interstellar ships into the orbit of the planetary system, so much so that it has formed its own dark asteroid-like belt around the central star. The belt grows every year as ships too large to drop out of the warp in this sector of space meet their fate. The inhabitants of all six planets named their system after it; the Ashen Veil.

Union Militant

boyz.jpg

-Led by the currently elected Supreme Overlord, O'dere

-Controls and recruits from Minerva V (Also known as O'deresfelt, named after their charismatic leader)

-Experts in urban and forest warfare

-Highly mobile infantry based airborne force..

-Many well maintained space faring craft sourced from Xana II and Minerva IIIb; the latter of which is rumoured to have a Template Construct (STC)

-Very few psykers and little influence from chaos

-Many privateers in service to check power of other factions of system and protect links to their devastated agri-world.

-Very few mutants allowed into ranks, causing tension with other factions

O'deres Iron Owls

-Special forces brigade of the Union Militant and selected only from Minerva V.

Renegade Commander

-Laspistol, Brutal Close Combat Weapon

6x Champions/Enforcers/Commanders/Marauder Chiefs

-Laspistol, Powerfist

6x Champions/Enforcers/Commanders/Marauder Chiefs/Marauders/Disciples/Militia

-Laspistol, Brutal Close Combat Weapon

6x Champions/Enforcers/Commanders/Marauder Chiefs/Marauders

-Shotgun, Brutal Close Combat Weapon

72x Militia/Disciples/Marauders
-18x Shotgun, 36x Lasgun, 12x Meltagun, 6x Plasmagun

9x Militia/Disciples Heavy Weapons Teams

-9x Mortar Teams

3x Renegade Sentinels

-3x Lascannons

3x Arvus Lighters

-2x Hellstrike Missiles

Airwing

3x Hell Blades

-2 Helstorm Autocannons

Thunderhawk Assault Gunship

-Turbo-Laser destructor

-Hellstrike battery

Total points: 4111 (counting everything as most expensive unit, happy to be correct)

Without Air-wing: 2203 (incase rules disallow me declaring Hell Blades & Thunderhawk for Lost and the Damned)

Failure to comply will see the Black Legion renege on their deals and invade the Ashen Veil system, enslaving or destroying everyone...

Tamika, I think I read in the rules somewhere that ther is a max of 3k per vow... so might need to do half then the other half as a second vow... impressive though dude!

Hey Tamika, welcome aboard! I've just checked and the Hell Blade and Thunderhawk are Legion vehicles so sadly can't be vowed down here. Also you can't just count everything as the most expensive unit, you have to pay the points for what's actually on the dudes.

@spafe: Nah, the only limit now is a max of 20,000 points over all 5 vows. So if you want to do one 20k vow, you totally can.

2. VOWS:

Each participant is called to make at least one and up to a maximum of five (5) vows pledging to paint legal units from the Codex or any other army list associated with his/her Faction of choice. Also each vow should not exceed the limit of 3,000 pts. For more details regarding the content of the vow, please see “Legal Entries” section below.

That's from the etl v link in the captains sig...

Edit:

also, from the faq bit:

Q: I pledge for Chaos. Can I use units form all associated Codices and FW lists? And can I do it in the same vow?

A: Yes! Chaos has a single Strategium and as such any unit from any associated list is ETL-legal. Even within the same vow!

Dunno if that counts or not, I'm quite out of date with terminology here.

It got changed because Warlord Titans are 6,000 points and Captain Semper wanted people to be able to vow them for the maximum amount. Also that's old rules, since it states Chaos have a single Strategium, when we now have three separate Outposts.

oh, I did not know that... makes a lot of sense. might be worth updating that @captain semper although I guess you're pretty busy as is, and it will affect so few folk it might not matter.

Thanks guys, you can just count the renegades part towards the vow and exclude the Heretic Astartes Aircraft.

Dragonlover... everything is in its most expensive configuration means that my plasma gun wielding trooper is being counted as a marauder not a militia.. price of weapon is more and obviously the model costs more. Everything is WYSIWYG when calculating the points :)

Would we be able to expand the allowed units ruling to include the Chaos Hellwright/Chaos Hellwright on Dark Abeyant from the Forgeworld Chaos index as well? It's the closest we can get to representation of the Dark Mechanicus, and would probably encourage more people to pledge to the Lost and the Damned.
