You and me both, mate.  Man, I wish Chaos even had some analogue to a few units, but there are a few units that I just can't figure out how to make work (Javelin land speeders for one) and man, the loss of some of the specialist weapons and such like you said is pretty harsh (Seriously, no thunder hammer?).  At least the rad-weapons can be picked up by Nurgle types.  Heh, Battlescribe hate you too, eh? Aye, you can definitely take Volkite 'Legion Support Squads' which are all volkite wielding loons that everyone likes, hmmm... I suppose what one could do is make them a 'Command Squad', giving them artificer armour and Volkite chargers, then model the banner so that it takes the place of the sorcerer to give it the 'spell' abilities, and have them as the escort for a siege breaker or destroyer captain.

Hah, dude, I believe it with Khârn.  Having the axe of blind fury captain top off more of my breachers than enemies, man... is there a thread for that?  Heh, I'd be totally on board with keeping count and building a more full blown world eater's army there.

Yeah, I only have the first two books and I am sure the rules are outdated. I have battlescribe but man does it hate doing stuff for HH for me or at least when I used it back during 7th edition. And there is a lot in just 40K leaving me wondering "why don't we have this stuff too" often but it just to add further differences between CSM and Loyalists I believe. Some of them like drop pods though are available a'la forgeworld rules. For a speeder, I do not know if something like the foetid or blight drone is comparable. They don't have a lot of shooting that I can recall.

Command squad with a banner sounds like an awesome plan. The mere sight of their banner can kill! Or give the squad leader/aspiring sorcerer the baton from autilon skorr and not tell anyone it is a wand.

Hah, you mean the best books, eh?  -laughs- yeah, man battlescribe just doesn't like working for me either.  It'll hang up my computer something fierce and the options when I last got it to work were crazy cluttered while 8E will load decently enough.  Man, it's crazy what Chaos lacks in 40K that just doesn't make sense.  I guess with the hellforged vs. relic stuff we have a bit of an advantage (I certainly feel it with my Blood Angels and the relic dreads).  But yeah, forgeworld has the Kharibdys and the Dreadclaw options at least, Dreadclaw is at least neat even if the model hates me.  Hmmm, the blight drone I was considering but I would have likely just looked at the Vultarax and maybe add it with 3 more thallax and a castallax (Obliterators and forgefiends respectively I think, maybe even some Ursallax as mutalators) I just wish there was a punchy anti-tank ranged option.

Ooooh man, the idea of the sorcerer baton gifted from the 17th (likely through the 20th) with a long centurion's cloak would be awesome, especially from Autilon Skorr.  Seriously fantastic idea mate!  Yeah, I'm gonna have to do that!

Well, I'll have some more pictures inbound.  Just letting the varnish dry on the rest of my second vow.

Someone has done autilon skorr, posed like BoP Ahriman and using the same minis cloak and backpack, for a sweet kit bash. I may have dig through the harrowing thread in the CSM forums as I’m sure it’s a XX player. Something to consider.

Looking forward to more pictures!

***EDIT***It was Azekai!

Niiiiice, love the use of the BP Ahriman one too, I've got a vigilator that will be using that cloak... heh. Man that is a great idea.

Righto, got a few new pictures, and I'll replace one with a proper Assault Legionnaire picture too once the background dries off a bit (yay raindrop).  Anyway...

They look glorious! I also love that banner. Reminds me of the pics I would see of the old, classic land raider and the paper flags people had on them. It's awesome to see an updated version of that look!

Hah, thanks dudes, it does mean a lot eh?  Lets see if I can keep the badness rolling, eh Interrogator Stobz? There's definitely some more fun bitz to go, just letting it all soak because working with resin does still suck.

Man, Pearson mate, despite 20-ish years in this hobby I've never owned more than 1 land raider at a time and prior to now, only 2 period.  So having 3 old proteus that I remember just going out of production when I got into this makes it all feel like it's full circle. While I did need the little satellite dish for the array, that flag on the lead tank is definitely a thing I'm happy about.

Thanks Hushrong, man, is it just me or was there a piece of old 30K Istvaan art that had a ragged banner on a land raider too?  And yeah, the ripped up old paper flags I remember stupid-fondly.  Loved em, and those Skaven banners are just poppin' as a traitor thing. I gotta find a use for the other one I had.

Well, I sold off a skaven army... now I'm thinking of buying something that comes with a 'war siren'.  Ugh, the rid never end and neither do the FW indecision orders. Man, gotta decide if I want to be one of 'those guys' or be sensible and just get more regular tier stuff.

Where did this thread appear from! It's popped out of nowhere and is full of awesomeness! Some excellent modelling and concepts here! I am especially impressed how you've made the plastics look cool, especially on the reavers!!!

As others have said I’m loving the pale green colour scheme you’ve gone for, it is really evocative of the gritty realistic look of the heresy! SoH are a notoriously difficult shade to get right, but you've nailed it.  Really shows the weathering up well. I love how you've got that Visions of Heresy vibe - I love the little nods to old classic models like the banners! Love that Land Raider squadron! One day I will get my squadron done!

Hah, thanks mate!  I really do appreciate it.  I figured 'hey, I've got stuff, might as well not be a leech' right?  Besides, there's a whole lot of people round here that sure gave me some inspiration (hey, and your EC's are really putting mine to shame for the record!) Man, those plastics... I want to like them because they're so accessible and easy, but the resins are so much nicer... if only mold lines weren't a thing.  So, a nice mix of the two felt right.  I looked at the Reavers and said 'yeah, that has to be a thing!'

I'm real glad that it actually works, the pale green is a weird one as the filters and washes that I work with really sap the softer mint colour out and turn it more green.  Think I may have to play with it a bit more but the results don't seem too bad to me.  Very much on that visions of Heresy vibe that I'm hoping to 'get'.  Oh man, when you get that squadron done up you had better show us all, eh!

Well, the day is burning hot so I've been using it to quick dry varnish, and I decided 'hey, pictures'.  So yeah, most of the Glaive Lion of Cthonia is mostly done (and man the tracks suuuucked) and the Spartan Awoken Truth is... not quite as close, but not bad.  Smashed up tracks ona job-lot Spartan that I picked up and added some FW doors on it.  Now, I just need to work up the 'eyes' and then I've got the targetters and cabling to go.  I totally forgot about doing 'em.  Oh, and the pictures is just a fun thing of 'what fits into two Calth boxes', turns out 2 'platoon' squads and a seeker squad with the local militia turning up.

Aaand not that anyone wanted it -laughs- but got a few more proper shots and proper stuff done up for the 65th.

Vigilator Centurion Raus (I haven't a clue what to use him as in 40K, likely sneak him in as a sergeant is all)

And an allied knight Scyth Mundi in Legio Mortis' colours.  Still prefer castigators but went halfsies with a friend on the Renegade set.

Honestly, no idea what I want or need from here on out.  A Deredeo, Jetbike praetor, and some more proper Justaerin are all very likely but from there on... no idea.  Thoughts?

Heavy armor is rolling!! Love the outdoor shots of them advancing. I must also say the Glaiver is fantastic! That’s definitely a fine addition to the Son of Horus. The green you’ve painted looks proper on such a beast of a tank.

The titan is also a nice addition.

The Vigilator is also looking good. Neat idea using the tartaros pads on him.

Thanks a ton, mate.  The Glaive was pretty good to put together except for the lead drive wheel (and I hadn't noticed but three rungs of the side ladder and a single coolant duct ring on the turret had been chipped in shipping.  Meh, no big worry).  The old monochrome Imperial Armour instructions don't have anything on the new Heresy coloured guides.

The more 'militant' colours really does lend itself to the heresy era tanks, eh?  Dunno, maybe because they feel a little more 'historical'.  It's kinda why I went with the Tartaros pads on the vigiliator for 'artificer armour'.  No self respecting sniper would be wearing filigree with a plume, and I recall that the Greigor Fell-Handed from the Prospero set has a tartaros style left pauldron.  So I figured, 'why not'?  I'm pretty happy with the company as it stands, now I gotta figure out how to really expand it (beyond Destroyers) without repeating the same patterns.  Hah, so if ya've got an idea on what might look cool I'm definitely all ears.

You've done a cracking job on the heavy armour, particularly the tracks and stains, the outdoor photoshoot suits them well too. Liking the choice of head on the Vigilator, I guess he could be used as a sorceror? Smiting and other damage spells representing his aim and high strength armament, whilst any shooting buffs could be explained by his enhanced optical equipment allowing him to relay better targetting information to his subordinates.

As for further additions, a rapid assault section could go well - javelin speeders, jet bikes and perhaps a gunship? Another contemptor never hurts either.

Alternatively, you could further explore the auxilia, I'd like to see your take on some armour in their style.

Thanks a ton, Pearson mate!  A sorcerer 'vigilator' now that's something I'd never considered... very very neat idea.  I think I like it (and I can switch Lyraeus out as a chaplain/dark apostle).  I rather liked that head too, I've been using a fair bit of the Blood Angels heads because I just kinda like them visually (the alt head was another face masked blood angels one, but I may save that for the others coming in).  Very cool udea on the vigilator sorcerer though, I'm really liking it!  Man, I'll admit I'm a bit of a tread head but it pales next to aircraft.  I've been trying to keep my Blood Angels as my air-cav force, buuuuut a rapid reaction section has been sort of to and fro for a bit now.

heh, I made another Forgeworld order that added a second Dreadclaw, a Contemptor Mortis, a Deredeo, another rapier, squad of Volkite caliver sorts, a jetbike for a praetor, and a Warhound.  But I've got a Fire Raptor that's in pretty bad shape, but it's been coming together and I may very well toss it in with my Sons of Horus instead of the Blood Angels it was originally slated for.  Man, I want Javelins pretty badly but I can't think of a 40K unit that it corresponds to... I may get a duo 'just cause'.

HOLY! That sounds like one heck of an order you've placed! Hoping it has a speedy trip to your doorstep so we can see some updates!

A fire raptor sounds cool. What's exactly wrong with it if it's in bad shape? I'd like to get one in the near future because I'd love to have a gunship. I bought a storm eagle over it years ago because I thought I would make use of its transport capacity.

And yeah, tough to find a cross-over for javelins. For some reason CSM ditched speeders, so that's a rough start. I still think a drone or perhaps a heldrake would be something to look into for rules.

Yeah -laughs- it was actually two orders, one as a LCtB when a mate of mine wanted Cullen and I said 'I just need some Volkite' that turned into... y'know, everything that wasn't the Warhound.  Then the warhound :P

About, hmm, 6 months ago I placed an order for 3 Fire Raptors for my gaming group and one of them, lo and behold, mine had a miserably cast front starboard nose.  Massive mold degradation that filled in a lot of the angles and gave a weird sandy texture like it hadn't properly filled.  But I didn't notice it for quite a while and never said much so I just kinda tucked it away saying, "I'll deal with it when I deal with it", especially as FW just had to send me a replacement for a Fire Raptor windshield on one of the others (the one that came with the kit... well we still don't know what it goes too).  I'll see if I can dig up some pictures, but I filed it down and greened it up now.  The other two went together decently, but it's not much better than the oft-maligned Storm Eagles.

Javelins as Heldrakes feels like it would be fine but I feel like I'd have to switch out the las cannons to autocannons to really do it justice.  The Blight drone stats could work on a missile javelin. A Heltalon with dual las cannons is essentially a perfect javelin if it had hover.

Thats's one hell of an order brother, looking forward to seeing you tackle it. Drakes/Drones/Talons could definitely work as javelins and they're such nice models, you know you want a pair...

I think the use of Blood Angel heads really suits the Sons, they really were a noble Legion before they're fall and many of them retained this throughout the heresy. Using a sorceror to represent the vigilator was a surprising conclusion for me too, if Warpsmiths could take conversion beamers, that would have been my first pick, but upon considering our units, only the sorceror had the damage output to match an elite sniper.

Hah, I didn't realize how stupidly large it was until I had placed it and looked at the summery. And I still need another plastic box (Calth or Prospero) to really get everything I need out of it. This is going to be one very veeeery uncomfortably large project vow for ETL, so I should be tackling it as soon as it's in, which is hopefully next Tuesday if UPS is right. One thing at a time, oooone thing at a time.

Oh man, you aren't wrong. A pair of Javelins just sound fantastic: and Hellblades have the dual las cannon version which just work. -laughs- if they weren't so fast but they are super manoeuvrable thanks to their special rules. Hmmmm.... very very tempting.

Thanks mate. I definitely agree: the angels really work. They have a slightly 'messy' appearance, not unkempt, just a little more normal and ragged than some of the other militant heads out there. They're a noble legion, and only the 'Sons of Horus' that are Cthonian born end up with the bald, heavy faced 'Horus' look. So they should look less monastic and clean cut, eh? Might as well have some of them and some of the KISS style vets later on (like the ones in Collected Visions).

Man, if only Warpsmiths could take those... I mean, it's not like it would be that different compared to a Rapier. I mean, I do think that the Sorcerer is a great idea for the damage output of an elite sniper. Prescience in particular feels like the 'watchman' sort of dolling out advice. It's a genuinely great idea. I seriously can't think of anything else except him as a 'blastmaster' noise marine in a unit of recon marines that double as noise marines.

Can’t believe I’ve missed this thread, some awesome work on here brother, I especially love your armoured proteus squadron.

You have captured the “sea green” colour of the sons of Horus perfectly IMHO, the other colours in the palate complement each other really well.

Great work!

Thanks a ton, Cadmus Tyro mate! Hah, yeah I guess because I don't do a WIP thread it can get lost pretty easy, eh?  I swear, the proper colour of Sons of Horus will probably never get sorted out as it's so open to interpritation, but I've always loved the 'Sea Green' that's kinda more mint and pale in colouration.  Because it's so light, everything else does stick out.  I am surprised it's not more common, though.  I do wonder if I should make a slightly more colourful honour guard/close combat command squad.  I think it was False Gods mentions that Horus's bodyguard unit was crested with a bunch of colourful company cloaks and golden bolters. I'm not sure if It'll look too garish though.

We'll be seeing some new stuff pretty quick thanks to the ETL!
