WAAAGH!
*Puts pedal to the metal*

So after a 12-15 year hiatus with my orks I've decided to start them back up. Only this time as Kult of Speed. The thought process behind the army is that no infantry is allowed unless it starts in a transport and no non-wheeled vehicles. Although I might soften that stance to get a flyer at some point. I'm starting this army from scratch and I'm not the quickest painter so I expect this topic to be somewhat slow, just as a FYI. I think it might add some extra motivation to paint though, knowing this is here. Here's my progress so far..

All I've done is three buggies, these first two are made from trukks. Also apparently I can't count to two, so they only have one big shoota each. However since there's no option to add/remove big shootas I'm not too bothered by it.

This next guy is also a buggy but the chassis is from a land speeder storm and the wheels are the spares from the trukk buggies. My thought process was that the shot it down, couldn't get it to fly and simply added wheels to it. The little grot in the back is the one firing the "rack of rokkits" by lighting a fuse on fire (how else?). This has made the driver ork a bit restless so he's mostly trying to chop 'umies in half.

The trukk-buggies are super simple conversions that leaves you with quite alot of extra bits which is great for ork players. I'd recommend people needing buggies now to try and make these, otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if they release a new model that's a buggy/wartrakk/skorcha kit with the codex. The rokkit buggy didn't turn up in the pictures well for some reason, the hull is more complex in wear & tear than the pictures show. Though the leftover wheels ended up being a tad too big, oh well.

It's a really solid idea. Thing is I have 5 or 6 Trukks I was going to sell but now I am rethinking that. Maybe I'll make a few buggies out of some of them.

It's got me thinking, maybe make a Scorcha trakk the same way, but replace the back tires with a single wide trakk from the battle wagon kit. Have you made anything like that yet?

No, I haven't. I'm actually very much starting up with orks again but I love the modding aspect of orks vehicles. Your idea sounds really cool, the one thing I would worry about is it might end up looking "inbalanced" for lack of a better word with a single track in the back if the width of the track isn't close to the hull of the vehicle. I personally wouldn't worry about putting tracks on a skorcha since it doesn't really matter but I've been ogling the taurox for some smaller tracks and then slaughter the rest of the vehicle for a trukk conversion.

Managed to get some boyz done today. I hate trying to weigh how much time I actually want to spend on them considering they not only die easy but my boyz will also spend most of the time stuck in transports..

These buggies are great. Love the toadstool on the Ork boy, that's a nice touch.

Thank you. Yeah, I like the idea of basing orks with mushrooms and I don't have the patience for ambitious basing overall so these add add little extra flair for very little actual work. If anyone is wondering, they're just made out of greenstuff and lentils.

I had two pictures on hand sort of showing the progress but the idea is that you make a greenstuff cone, smush the lentil on then rinse and repeat. I made 35 or so watching TV and when you feel like you have enough, add a big dollop of super glue where the stem and the lentil meet by angling the whole box and then wait 24 hours. I then based them in armypainers army brown and drybrushed half of them with tallarn sand and gave them a coat of agrax. Those became fly agaric. The other ones I did the stem the same but painted the top with mephiston red and added white dots. Those are the toadstool ones. Actual work time for all of them is maybe 40 minutes so I feel they're really worth it time&money to looks benefit ratio.

What a great idea to use the lentils. I would have assumed the whole thing would be greenstuff. Left over green stuff my end usually ends up as maggots for my Nurgle. But i'm definately looting this idea. Thanks for the tip.

Go right ahead, who am I to stop a fellow ork from doin' some lootin'? I actually have a little bag of lentils by the desk now so whenever I get some leftover greenstuff I'll just make more mushrooms

I've unfortunately been quite busy during the last months and have as such made very little progress on the Ork front. However, I found Kill Team to be an ecellent way to get back into the groove of things on a small scale. I also highly recommend rolling for any unbuilt specialist demeanours while they are still unbuilt and try to construct them in a way reflecting that demeanour. It's an easy way to infuse some personality to otherwise normal models. Here's what I came up with:

1, Blokrotz Drakka - Light-fingered - Veteran
I just gave this guy as much extra gear I could somewhat reasonably fit onto the model. The fact that he's a veteran and can as such move before the start of the game makes a lot of sense considering this guys is going to vacuum up a lot of good loot.
20180825 095811 2
20180825 095821 2

2, Zogwarp Facebiter - Foul Gob - Demolitions
I wasn't entirely sure how to model an ork as unusually crude but a shouting mouth and some greenstuff-fingers later and I think the point comes across
20180825 095752 2

And here's the entire team I'll bring to a game tomorrow.
20180825 100106 3 Min
It consists of a:
Boss Nob with big choppa & slugga - Leader
Burna boy - Veteran
Burna boy - Demolitions
Ork boy gunner with big shoota - Heavy
7x Ork boyz with shootas
5x Grots with blastas

Liking the GS mushrooms/toadstools.

Out of interest what paint did you use for the reef/fur/horns on your boyz? Can't get a look that I like with mine.

Love your buggy conversions too, simple but gives a nice Orky flavour to them

I must say my favorite moment was Raven Guard turn 3, where basically the entire army forms a firing squad and guns down Mephiston because it takes an entire army's firepower to take him down. Hilarity.

Thanks. All the bone/teef are done in a super simple manner. It's a base of steel legion drab with a roughly applied coat of rakarth flesh. The trick I've found is to not apply it neatly close to the base of the teef/horns so you get that sort of striped effect. The teef I then wash with a thin layer of agrax just to get some more shadows going, obviously less shade closer to the edge of the teef. The claws are done in the same manner.

I don't remember the exact way I did the fur on the hat, but it'd be in a similar manner, Basecoat, wash and just drybrush a highlight. I've found that a lot of colours work well on the fur.

So someone mentioned in the Ork Leaks thread that the Ork Blood Bowl team would make a pretty decent base for 'Ardboyz, now that we have a stratagem that brings them back into the fray. Just painting the normal 40k Ork boyz can get a bit tedious so I figured I'd give them a shot. I went for the slugga & choppa configuration. The models are monopose but cutting their arms off and gluing on other ones from the normal boyz kit was pretty straightforward.  Don't glue on their heads though, because if you're like me and actually want the details on their chest to be painted then you just made the whole process a whole lot more tedious than it has to be. Another thing to note is that they come on 32mm bases and they have that old school "bar" between their feet so if you want all your boyz on 25's this might be a bit trickier. Mine are on 32's though.

Here's the entire squad
20181031 134842~2

The blocker, who acts like the boss nob. They are easily big enough to fill that role. In fact, they are so big that it'd be weird if he doesn't get counted as a nob so I would recommend to put the other blocker in another squad. This guy got a wrist mounted slugga that I like to imagine only fires when he punches something. Sure it's impractical, but you can't tell me that it's not orky!

Thanks! I'm actually thinking if I can convert those buggies to something else now. They're still useable through the index but that's bound to go away at some point I think. The two trukk-buggies might just convert back into a trukk. The landspeeder might become the front on a battlewagon. Got me some finkin' to do
