Hi all. I last played in 3rd edition but am coming back, and never actually owned or painted an army so I'm excited to get started. I love Primaris marines and want an army that leans towards shooting, and I'm an obsessive X-Com fan, so reading about this new Deathwatch Codex it seemed like the perfect army. I'm just curious before I jump into things, is a mostly Primaris Deathwatch army reasonably newbie friendly, and is black hard to paint? I'm learning to paint from scratch.

Black is a very difficult colour to master but unlike other difficult colours like white or yellow its not easy to mess up so it can be noob friendly.

Regular Death Watch aren't a beginner's army but Primaris Deathwatch might be, I don't know because its a new book.

Welcome to the B&C and back to the hobby :tu: Black isn't that hard to do, for example I get a nice black by using Skavenblight Dinge (I think that's the paint, used to be Charadon Granite) and adding a few layers of black wash on top. Gives a nice dull and dark colour that's not "true" black, meaning you can still work that in where you want it such as gun casings or soft armour :)

Welcome!!

I haven't played the Primaris in my DW, but looking over the book I can certainly see that an army of them would be quite potent. Very costly, but you are choosing an elite army filled with many a hero and some great wargear.

End of Line
