Best Way to Get Single Models (Vanguard, Terminator, etc.)?

Been looking to add a Vanguard unit to a vet kill team but don't see the point of paying $40 - $50 for a whole box of dudes (even though the extra bits would be handy for sure).

Would it be OK or a good idea buy one of the single models out there in blisterpacks if you liked their load out, etc. and have them be a normal unit of their type?

Would seem to me it would be since the Deathwatch pulls recruits from heroes with exceptionally ability.

For instance I bought a Deathwatch captain in Terminator armor this weekend. Could I sub him into a kill team as just a termie with a storm bolter and power sword?

Go to ebay and you can buy single models everywhere. Anything you’re looking for you can get individually. I’ve been buying single hellblasters and terminators since the Codex came out. Saves a ton of $$, unless you want to get the extra bits, in which case just buy a full box.

I think most of us already do that to some extent. If you just want a few single models I can suggest the Cassius strike force box, you get a load of single models that are unique that you will probably find a use for.

Bike with power sword(modeled to the torso), Terminator with Heavy Flamer and Meltafist(Both weapons can be replaced), Chaplain, Librarian, 2x Vanguard Vets(One fixed Lightning Claw, one fixed Chainsword) and a load of other unique veteran models. You can also buy all of them singularly on ebay for £4-8.

I have also brought the Blood Angel Chaplain with a jump pack which could easily be used if you replaced the Crozius. The only problem with the Terminator Captain is the Relic blade, which some people may complain about, you would need to change that to a power sword.

It's so funny you should mention that.  I was just thinking of getting a single Biker, and I would do so from that new Battle for Vedros introductory product line.

I'm trying to figure out what other things the Battle for Vedros boxes are good.

Great thing about Deathwatch is you can use pretty much any bike in the SM arsenal. Deathwing, Normal, Scout, I would even think you could use Grav/Legion bikes from 30k, they all count as a biker. Same can be said for any model even ones with chapter markers, just swap the chapter shoulder pad to the other side and put a Deathwatch pad on the left.

This is also my favourite part about Deathwatch. I run a heavy Primaris blood ravens force (which is currently pretending to be DW to test out some unit ideas before I build it up), and there have been times where a new model will come out with a sleek look I'd like to add to my force, but very clearly belongs elsewhere. Now, no longer! Paint his arm silver, attach a DW shoulderpad, and he's a brand new addition. I can also pick up some of those upgrade packs for Primaris marines now and use their bits and bobs for tricking out each member. KT Cassius won't be the only blinged out squad thanks to all those packs.

Yeah that's the best thing about DW so far. Being new to the hobby I want all these shiny new models but hard to squeeze a whole unit of them in at times.

Now I can buy stuff and stick 1 or 2 in here or there. :D
