House Trycerios, Scions of Legio Tempestus

Recommended Posts

So I finally found the right army where the models are incredibly fun to assemble and paint, something I have struggled with as I jumped between space marines, custodes, and more. I got my hands on two Armigers when they came out, and couldn't put them down. I then got my hands on a Warden and a Crusader, with the Crusader being a pre-owned mess. I ordered a new carapace when I deemed the melted super glue mess beyond saving. I am in the middle or repairing the broken hot glued mess of a battle cannon arm. I also got my hands on two of the old Errant kits, from before they put the upgrade sprue in all of them. I got both of them for the price of one regular knight, so I am cool with that. I will post up pictures as I go, including once I get my hands on Adeptus Titanicus and paint them as Legio Tempestus. My question is should I equip my Knights with RFBC or Thermal Cannons?

The models I currently own are:

1x Yellow and Black Knight: Avenger and Chainblade

1x Blue and Silver Knight: Battle Cannon and Chainblade

2x unassembled and unpainted Errants with plans to magnetize

2x Armigers with Thermal Spears and Chainblades

Plans to purchase: Castellan, 2x Armiger variants, 2x Armored Sentinels, Lance Castellan variant. I also want to pick up a Castigator, Lancer, and Atrapos.

Optimally, you should think about magnetising your kits so you have both weapon options I would say.

If that isn't an option though for some reason, go with the Thermal cannon.

The RFBC isn't terrible, it's just outclassed against the Avenger and Thermal cannon everywhere except the range department. And ideally you don't want a Knight sitting back at those kind of ranges anyway - get them in CC where sensible between shooting phases and make the most of the points investment.

I just ordered two Armigers as well. I want to wait for the codex before purchase another 2 potentially. Or purchase anything bigger for that matter lol!

I know what you mean, I would've waited but two for the price of one on those Errants was to good to pass up. I will have to look up how to magnetize the weapon on the knight. When I get my hands on a upgrade sprue I will do it for them too.

Got home to start building the Warden I got on eBay, turns out it is a crappy recast, none of the pieces fit together for the torso. I am filing a claim against them for both of them, they sold them as GW products, and even mentioned how it doesn't come with the original packaging, which is clearly misleading.

:( Some deals are too good to be true. Hopefully your claim will get processed and refunded and their account banned for infringing on copyright. Worst case scenario you can let GW go after them legally.

They offered to refund me if I send it back, shipping costs on me, or they would refund me 30% of what I paid for each. I sent them this in response:

These are so misshapen that I can't even save them anyway, most of the lines are bent, and sprues aren't the correct size in comparison to each other. The one sprue is about 2% too small. I unfortunately might have to contact Games Workshop and Ebay about these though, since it is illegal to sell recasts, even(especially) if they aren't listed as such. This is something you would get from a russian recaster. I also just saw that someone else got a recast as well, and they weren't informed about it until they got it either. If you don't have knowledge that these are recasts, you might want to show them to someone familiar with GW products before selling them.

Hopefully this will put the fear in them, if not, I will wait for ebay on the 30th and have them resolve it. I have screenshots of the original listing showing how he used pictures of GW knights, listed it as a Warhammer 40k Imperial Knight Errant, and claimed he had only removed it from packaging. I might actually contact GW about it, if I can figure out how.

Update: I emailed GW customer service, it was the first email I could find, letting them know that he is selling recasts to multiple people. I know they can't do anything for me directly, since I was  the idiot who bought third party, but I want them to be able to stop him.

I feel for you buddy.

I had much the same thing happen with my first FW Knight. Thought I'd save some money and buy one on Ebay and it turns out, that's a minefield.

I was lucky in so much that it is just about usable, but having bought a few direct from FW since, the quality difference is so obvious now I know better :/

I'm still gutted every time I look at that Knight. Will get around to replacing it one day.

I really hope you can work things out with Ebay. It isn't fair for people to selling stuff like this in such an underhand manner.

I hate that the beginning of my WIP blog is me trying to fix ms getting ripped off. He accepted the returns and is offering to pay the shipping cost as well. I am taking a ton of pictures of the sprues for posterity, and GW contacted me back asking for a link to his store front and more pictures of the sprue. I asked them to wait to destroy him until I get my money back. Lol

So, ebay issues resolved and got my money back. I used it plus a work bonus to get myself Renegade, Castellan, and 2x Helverins. I currently have two warglaives painted in a blue, white, and silver scheme. I am thinking of changing my on the table crusader into an Paladin. Taking his Avenger to build both my Renegade box knights into Crusaders. This would let me paint my 2x Renegade boxset knights, Helverins, and Castellan as House Malinax, which would give me a Blue Paladin and 2x Blue Warglaives, a Yellow Warden freeblade, 2x Malinax Crusaders, 2x Malinax Helverins, and a Malinax Castellan. I want to paint something not blue, and think I can catch a cool Malinax using washes and zandri dust.

Great news on resolving the eBay issues you had and glad you were able to put that money back to good use!  I think your plan sounds good and the option of Freeblade Knights in different color schemes can fulfill the need to paint in a different color!

Did you get to keep the bad recasts? If so, you could use them to make some destroyed knights on your bases! That way it doesn't matter if things fit together well, because they are destroyed! Best use for recast stuff is to cut it up!

They had me send them back, but not until after they gave me my money back. They knew he was a shady dealer, so they took the money. He is also getting investigated. Otherwise I would have done that, he sent me a recast of the chaos knight upgrade too, so I could have had a broken chaos knight terrain piece or something.

Glad that got sorted for you! I've almost pulled the trigger so many times on eBay models but every time I remember stories like this and don't do it. Glad they're investigating him.
