TrawlingCleaner Posted June 8, 2018 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Hi guys, back at the start of 8th edition I started an army of blood angels homebrew successors called the Sanguine Knights. I basically pilfered Halaandar's scheme for his homebrew because it was exactly what I wanted to do with them. My idea with them is that they're a relatively young chapter, maybe a couple of thousand years old that are very humanitarian like the Lamenters, Salamanders or SW. They get called to Baal like everyone else, are helping planets evacuate that are in the path of the hive fleet when they come across a planet with a huge population when they get caught by the fleet. They get forced underground to old underground citadel's and are very nearly wiped out, the command of the chapter is given to the only captain left as he's the highest ranking officer left and is then voted in after the Deus ex machina that was the malediction. I'm not a great writer but I might attempt writing some lore. The scheme I'm going for is white armour, dark red pauldrons and black trim. Blood drops will be blue and wings etc will be black. The white should hopefully look pretty bashed up and not a perfect white, so some areas of the armour should be drybrushed to look generally worn. The parts of the army that would be in the thick of the fighting will look more weathered, like assault Marines, dreadnoughts etc, whereas tactical Marines and devs will be a little less weathered. Hopefully I can pull it off. Really like the Captain, particularly the choice of head and axe, the blunt normality of it seems to fit the chapter's situation - fighting for survival and being brought to the edge of extinction leaves very little time to retrieve lost relics from the heart of the advancing swarm; better just grab what's to hand. I also enjoyed reading the bit of lore here, and notion of humanitarian bent combined with an underground, entombed warfare theme could make for some very enticing lore to read (I'm envisioning difficulties with manifestation of the Black Rage in such a confined area, and perhaps issues with cave-ins or lurking underground xenos creatures that retreated from the surface after humanity arrived...) – I do hope to see more models and more lore! Since you gonna use this paint a lot, let me tell you what I've learned from my internet research. Corax white has to be sprayed from a lot closer distance than chaos black, cause the paint dries much quicker, resulting in that chalky texture. Theory says spray close and with low humidity. I managed to spray the captain when their wasn't much humidity and sprayed closer than I normally would and it came out fine. Your theory was totally right, thanks man! I would shade the recesses first, then correct any imperfections with the base color, and then highlight. Preferably with at least two layers, building the highlight up for deeper effect. For shading you can use Agrax Earthshade or any form of darkened base color. You can darken it with browns, purples, blues or even a mixture of those. Black is treacherous as its usually awfully powerful and tends to give you greyish browns - ugly and flat. For highlights, I would use yellow rather than white. Or a mixture of yellow and white. I wanted to say that I would add yellow and white to the red to create the highlight color. Basically orange, as you say. As I've said before they're a relatively young chapter, they've only been in a very few major conflicts. One of which was with the space wolves under the command of Erik morkai. They team up and bash some orks and the Sanguine Knights earn the respect of the Space wolves. Their Gene flaw is the same for the most part as the rest of the blood angels, obviously red thirst and black rage. They also have another flaw as that they are able to psycially shreek that causes terror in enemies. For most marines the shreek is difficult to make effect more than one target, so there are ancient sets of armour that are covetted by the SK. They're not sure where they came from but they are very important to them. Rules wise the only units that can use the psycic shreek are sanguine guard and Dante as they have the sangunious masks. Any tips or anything to add are appreciated. Captain Solomon of the 4th company is left as the highest ranking officer and the most favoured after the devestation of Baal story. They're currently trying to rebuild after barely having a full company from every other company collected. He becomes the chapter master but still wants to prove himself to all other successors and more importantly their progenitor.So as he's now a chapter master I've built a Dante count-as.
