Matching Up Knights with Custodes

I started a similar thread in Mechanicus, for Mechanicum based armies. But I have trouble matching up my Custodes with a House in particular.

I assume it would be a shooty one? Custodes excel at Close Combat, and need some long range punch. Would it be just a single Castellan Dominus? Or would you play a full detachment? Which House Rule appeals to you most, and why?

If you’re intending it to be a long range fire support platform, I don’t think you can go wrong with Hawkshroud. Shooting at Full BS for longer than other houses is ideal. A lot of thenother house traits have restrictions like range, nearest enemy, wound count of enemy etc whereas Hawkshrouds is a good general use one.

I ha e mixed my Custodes with Admech and I find I have a struggle with still feeling like I’m playing Custyand not just pulling a Cc Custodes detachment duty to support AdMech.

Since I want to emphasize Custodes I am thinking AdMech Raven House, 2 Armigers + Castellan or Valiant. I do think the Valiant is extremely underrated. But for Custodes the match up could be very good with backfield Castellan.... I have melted hard targets in one turn with the Volcano cannon alone.

You can take 3 gallants for +6 CP, for +-1000-1100 pts.. This is huge punch force... . Gives one landstrider, +2 to advance And charge rolls, another take 4++. It is huge. 72 wounds to chew. Take hawkshroud And you can double wounds for dmg chart.

Those sound like interesting experiments. I haven’t fielded any Gallants in any edition but I wonder what your list looks like for Custodes if you’re down to 900-1000 pts.

Yea I don’t think I would run them a lot, however I’d like to try it just to see if it actually makes the way I use my Custodes better or worse. As I said in a different thread, I completely clobbered an opponent that Norma gives me a very good run for my money while using a pure Knight list. It just felt like too much. However I’m not convinced mixing them in with a true Custodes component (not just bikes) would actually make them better.

House Raven could be a very nice compliment to Custodes.

Being able to Advance and fire at full effect (as well as charge for 2CP) means you get a decent gun boat, combat supplement and distraction all in one.

Something like the Fist really helps augment Custodes relatively low strength in combat, letting him be "Anti-big-thing", but then again a Thermal, Gattling and Feet advancing and stomping all about would be more than enough surely!

Raven also get a 2CP strat that let's a Knight re-roll all 1s in shooting. To hit/ to wound whatever!

Their unique trait also ignores AP-1, meaning they are all but immune to small arms, especially when you combine with the Armor of the Sainted Ion: Grants the user a 2+ armor save.

Would let you double up with speedy jetbikes for two pronged attack.

That’s very true. I’ve played against the ITC variant which I think is borderline absurd and 60 Cultists with VotLW and Psychic buffs gets a little ridiculous. I bet Orks end up with something comparable and that will be the end of Knights after their month in the sun.

Okay maybe that’s a little too doom and gloom but I do agree hordes will continue to be an issue.
