Knight killing

What do people consider the best options in our book for defeating Knights, both in Imperial armies and Knight armies? What about the Dominus themselves?

Destroyers can potentially hurt a Knight with rerolls, but what else?

Anarkyr the Traveller taking control of a Dominus could be fun. Imagine shooting another Knight with a Harpoon? Or flaming the thing at 2 damage a piece with rerolls to wound?

Vindicator Laser Destroyers could work or perhaps Rapier Carrier Laser Destroyers (interestingly enough both use different weapon profiles.)  The Vindicators can be brutal when they sit still to double tap but the Rapier is smaller, can be hidden better, and very well may be overlooked, especially  if other juicy targets are available.

I actually think a Doomsday Cannon would work great. Our quantum shielding will work wonders vs 90% of Knight weapons. That harpoon? Ignored 83% of the time it wounds. Helligers autocannons 50% of wounds ignored with the quantum shielding strat. Their scariest weapons vs Cron shielding is the avenger and the flamer.

Best option I'd say is to tailor your list exclusively to as many high damage weapons and Scarabs bases as your collection allows and hope for good dice rolls. Necron heavy weapons outside of (Heavy) Destroyers are pretty random and costly enough it's hard to stack the odds in your favour without a bit of luck.

Pretty much what everyone else has chimed in with.. lotsa scarabs -Novokh one's for fight phase rerolls (which would look pretty awesome anyways!) multiple doomsday arks with cryptek support, heavy D's and perhaps a novokh D' lord with a Voidscythe?(is that the anti vehicle blade?...) racing up from behind to sneak in the killing blow perhaps

perhaps a Monolith with the particle whip might help out...get a lucky shot in and be a Magnet for the knight's return fire...:tongue.:

also as NTaW has said you would really need to tailor your force to deal with it...or them...

Quantum Shielding is great, no doubt about it. The biggest and scariest weapons are rendered much poorer.

Time's Arrow could be fun.

I forgot about the Scarabs! There's something glorious about the tiny blighters eating a Knight!

The Tachyon Arrow is one shot one time per game against a model with a 5++ (able to increase to 3++ with Traits and wargear I think). It's one of the options for sure but there's a real lack of guaranteed damage coming from any Necron firepower.

Maybe getting some C'Tan in there for mortal wounds would be nice?

EDIT: I know you said in-book but the Pylon is a pretty serious answer to Titanic units. It still has issues with consistency with random shots but if you have one or something big that can count as one (maybe a tall pylon, something akin to a fully upgraded outpost from Dark Crusade would be relatively easy to make) it could really level the field.

Well, it could...but by the time it could do anything significant it wouldn't really matter, as it would be in its last bracket.

Do we even have a tachyon arrow anymore, or is it just on Anrakyr?

Also, scarabs seem like a wonderfully inspired idea...esp. with the stratagem to cause mortal wounds by sacrificing a base...be a good way to get some (almost) guaranteed damage from a wounded base.

Though I do miss the days when scarabs could just take all the armor off a vehicle, and if it fropped to less than AV10 the vehicle just got wrecked. Would be wonderfully effective nowadays I think. Alas.

Riiiiight C'Tan powers have names too. My apologies for the assumption, figured it was similar to a Veil of Time/Veil of Darkness scenario.

It could be used on Knights but only once you've already beaten them down. It's a big chunk of points but I think a Tesseract Vault would be relevant to helping take down Knights provided it's supported by things that help it heal, a Spider and a canoptek cloak equipped Cryptek could get it back 2d3 wounds per turn.

I just played a game as Novokh and let my opponent borrow some of my knights. Those Helverins cost me the game by killing all 9 of my Wraiths on turn one. They're very well suited to killing Wraiths and scarabs. Every failed save is a dead model. Lychguard still took them out, though. Ten with Scythes with a Lord is VERY reliable! Against Questoris or Dominus knights less so since you need a 5 to wound.

They flew up in a Night Scythe turn one and used the double invasion beam strat turn two. That put them in easy charge range, though I wouldn't do it again (without redundancy) because I almost lost them all to the Night Scythe going down too fast.

I also brought a Dooksday Ark that completely failed the entire game. It never needed to move to get LoS but just couldn't get anything through. Between Rotate Ion Shields and just poor rolling it did 3 total wounds over 4 turns. It was pitiful!

I don’t have a flying crois..... night scythe, what’s your opinion of them? I’ve wanted to use the strategy you just did, but I’m worried they’ll crash and burn.

I’ve had similar woes with the doomsday ark. It’s a real hero to zero unit. It would have been nice to get a reroll the random shot mechanic similar to leman russes. I love rerolling 3 shots into 10!
