Da Legund of Boss Morfang Skragga- Historic Models.

Back in the day I used to collect a Speed Freek Army when I was just a lad. I was able to get a family member to send me a pile of these old models from the Atic. And I thought I would take some photos and share some of my early paint jobs!

Well lets start at the top, this very angry looking Ork on a bike is the 3rd version of Boss Morfang I built, this one on bike for his Cult of Speed days.

As for the buggies and tracks themselves most were very converted. This is the best one! and bellow that are a pile of hints and the other stuff I got, most are going to be stripped down and rebuilt and painted over the next few months.

Update!

I havent got much done in the last week and a bit, mostly just striping paint off old models and trying not to be overwhelmed with illness. But last night I started putting some modles together with the hope for a large set of priming this week!

First up, is a counts as 'Nob with WaaAGGHH Banner! and Kustom shooter'. Pondering adding some extra grots to the base, maybe if I can find some snotlings.

gallery_63905_14685_232108.jpg

Then I have my 'Mad' Scrap Prospector.. who will actual count as a Big Mek with a Kustom Force Field.. (The Ork, isnt sure what item in his bag of scrap does it, but the other Orks dont care as it works). Modeling wise I may change out the scrap in his hand, or at least clip it a bit to make it smaller to make it look better in one hand.

gallery_63905_14685_189455.jpg

Then we have a Nob with Kustom Shooter.

gallery_63905_14685_33985.jpg

And then a Tankbuster Boy from the old Metal kit.

That is a fantastic Stompa. I love all the little spare bits you've added to it, and the barbed wire looks inspired.

Thanks!

I think, and this is a big 'condtion' that it may be the model Iam most happy with. The Conversion feels right, like I made it more 'Realistic' but just added the character of the army to the model.

I have a desire to make a second one now. Want it to be slightly bigger with a Belly Gun. Pondering what bits I would need to make it look different, yet still a stompa.

+++ The Dancing Gork! , Ork Stompa Class Titan ++

Pride of Place in the center of Warbosses Morfangs Forces. The Walking Battlefortress is the command and control center for his WAAAARGH! The target of frequent assaults by those wanting to break the Orks Momentum. But the speed and dedication of the big meks get it working again.

The Stompa has been built with normal kit. Many alterations were made to this model. Extra Armour plates were added , the head rebuilt, extra gliff banners and all the 'small arms' were relocated among others changes. Overall this is the biggest model I have ever painted.

Him and the Stompa are wonderful! I'm sure he was difficult to find or you had one laying around waiting for you. lol
Reminded me of something. Way back when I joined up at Da WAAAAAGH! forums there was a thing going on where they were sending a prospector around the world to get a bit added or some paint added by different members.  That was a long time ago.
I love all the grots mucking about on your Stompa. They'd best not be having tooooo much fun I'm not sure that's allowed. :laugh.:

Yes I have had the Prospector in a box since the old days of Gorkamorka, lost the real head and gun at some point, but the current version I think works well.

And yes the grots are mucking around quite a bit, I did ponder adding a Runt Herder to it, but decided against it as it would have been a large point on the model and the smaller old Grots were what I wanted to showcase.

+++ The Return +++

So shortly after my last post the Ork Codex dropped and I went up to my FLGS to have a few games with my orks and enjoy the new codex. Yeah, that went badly. It was a right stomping and despite asking for some friendly games, I lost a few friends (I mean one of the chaps I havent spoken to since, it was that bad of a game)

So with that I went back to playing AOS, and then off to my new passion Titanicus.

But 9th edition had me looking back at 40k again, inspired by the crusade rules I had a conversation about how to return to the hobby... Well the Da Legend of Boss Morfang Skragga is going to return and this thread will detail my hobbying (though more in depth posts about what iam planning will happen in the forge), and this thread will detail the story of his Crusade WAAAGH!.

Now I have had a hard think about what Iam going to do to ensure that I can ensure my games are fun. As such I am making some hard choices.

  1. I am not going to play Matched Play.
  2. I am only going to play with Power Level
  3. I am going to always be using Legends

I had spent too much time worrying about whats competitive and too much about what's balanced. I am going to focus only on the one thing that matters, what is FUN!

+++

Ok with all that said yesterday I sat down and started working out what my 50PL ork list would be at the start of my Crusade. When doing so I realised what I would love in that list is a Mek Gun, so I opened up my bitz box, and got looting, and built this thing...

gallery_63905_14685_343466.jpggallery_63905_14685_407766.jpg

gallery_63905_14685_85044.jpg

gallery_63905_14685_238089.jpg

Now it's the right size as a Mek Gun, but as I was informed by a mate its also the right size for a Grot Tank, so eventually it may get its engine turned on and start racing around the battlefield.

I also have a plan to finaly build the Boss himself Morfang Skragga, the bits are on their way so stay tuned.

Looking forward to seeing your boss comversion!

Narrative/legends certainly holds a lot of appeal but it can be hard to get people to play it-- there is certainly a very matched play mindset locked into a lot of the players nowadays

Yeah, getting folks to play it will be key.

'Thankfully', Iam the chap who ends up organising the local clubs and getting folk to play in the first place, and so far my declaration that iam not using Points or Matched play has been met with mostly responces of 'At last', 'I have been wanting to do this'.. and such.

Good to see you're back on the battlewagon!

My only concern would be ':cuss'. If they're going to mess about and be unsportsman like in matched, they'll do it in narrative. Power levels can be more abused if you go with the best/most expensive loadouts, and then can get silly if they start bringing summoning.

If you want to do PL, keep it to 'narrative play' dont use standard missions, or use the new GW open war cards to shake things up.

Love that little tank and your previous conversions. You seem to have a flair for orky gubbins, and they seem 'your' army.

Yeah, there are still concerns and its not a magic spell that ensures good games. But Iam hopeful that by avoiding the language of comp play (Points). I give room for the pre game conversations to develop.

In 8th this was also my policy, but I didnt stick to it becuse of the concenrs listed above. The day I started letting folks talk me into playing with points, was the day all games became competitive.

So Iam hopeing that a persons reaction to my 'only powerlevel' stance will be a warning about wanting the game or not.

And yeah, only war is the way forward. Its 70% of my AoS games and the various decks I have are currently beeing looted for my Titanicus Titanicus events. They are a great way to make a non toxic game.

Thanks!

The Stompa took me alot of thinking to get right, and I looted alot of ideas from around the net. Hope it inspires others! Iam already kinda planning a second one, (I kinda want to make one with the options from the FW stompa)

Anyway...

Another pair of models I have been throwing together are some Trucks! I had one Truck model and with a trip to my bits box I was able to bash it into a pair of them!

Da Boss arrived.

Spent 30mins starting to work on building him before running off to work!

Happy I was able to get the helmet to fit. going to need some more smothing and some greenstuff to tidy it up fully, but it does look proppa orky!

So glad someone saw the potential in that model! Da Boss is really going to stand out among the Waaaagh as is only proper. Looking forward to seeing it come together!

Thanks!

Alot of work is going to be needed, and some parts of that are going to take alot of work. Speaking of which, I spent last night putting the model together.

So this was Stage 1.

gallery_63905_14685_836450.jpg

Urgh, I didn't like where this model was going. And I kinda lie, this was stage 2 as I had a different set up for the belly before returning to use the actual bit from the kit. But went to focus on the backpack...

I took a spare army from the Killer Kans List, with part of magna-grapple from the Blood Angels Dreadnought kit. It looked good, but it didnt fit with the kit. I spent some time looking at it and playing with it. I wasnt happy.

So I changed my plan and took it off.

Not being happy with the exact direction the model was going (Happy with the general but not exact) I put together all the bits and built the whole kit so I can decided what needs chopping up, filling and smoothing.

So this is what he looks like at the moment.

gallery_63905_14685_293176.jpg

So Iam happy with the Gun. (Even if the Kustom Shooter does look like a Pistol). Not happy with the spear, looks too AOS Still so I think it's time to make it dead choppy.

The 'Belly' Plate is another part Iam not happy with. I have been able to remove the maw, but not sure about the Glif.. may need to be removed. Same with the pistol and swords (AT least the Swords Hilt needs to be changed).

Whoa, ogre as an ork, great idea, he's huge!

Thanks! I have been using a Oger as a Ork boss for decades now, used the old metal Bloodbowl one for my 3rd edd ork army and I wanted to rebuild him for my 8th/9th.

Though now when he hits the table he will have to use the 'biggest boss' Stratagem.
