So, who are you fine folks anyway?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I'll level with you all: last year was so undeniably rubbish for me on a personal level I didn't really spend all that much time down here. As a result, there's a *lot* of folks around I just don't recognise, which was find as a Frater but is a lot less fine as a Mod. With that in mind, I figured an introduction-ish thread was a reasonable idea.

Hi, I'm Dragonlover! I've been around on the B&C for about five years now, but I've been a Chaos player for twenty years, starting at the tail end of 2nd.

My ultimate hobby goal is a full army for each of the Nine Traitor Legions. It's been the aim for a while, but I only recently got to the point where I have the cash to do it. I currently have three Legions done and in various states of painted, namely World Eaters, Alpha Legion and Iron Warriors.

I play in a reasonably casual meta where our lists have a healthy mix of stuff that's good and stuff we like. Open War cards tend to get busted out a fair amount as well.

Oh, I also own probably 95% of the physical output of Black Library in terms of 40K and the Heresy so if you want to know if a books any good, I've read all the bad ones so you don't have to!

Hey DL, this sounds like a good idea.

I'm DuskRaider as I'm sure some of you know (other than the name plate on the side). I've been on B&C for over 10 years now (just passed the decade mark December) and was directed here via the old deathguard.org website when I decided to join the online 40K community. I've been playing since 3rd Edition, just before our Most Holy Tome 3.5 was released.

I've played Death Guard since the beginning and still do to this day, albeit a completely new army using the beautiful new models. I'm also a big 30K player (or was until 8th) and have large Death Guard and Word Bearers armies for that system as well. As I've matured in the hobby I've begun to find more enjoyment in smaller games like Kill Team, Necromunda and INQ28. Something with a narrative and more personality.

I don't get out to my FLGS much anymore due to being a father of 3 kids and also working nights, so most of my gaming is done on my kitchen table. With my son getting into the game as well (Adeptus Mechanicus) I'm hoping I'll be able to start going back to the scene with him. I don't really play any other games these days. At one point I was into War Machine / Hordes but it became boring. I played Rackham Confrontation before 40K and was really into it but unfortunately the company tanked so 40K is my only gaming hobby focus.

Hey Dragonlover :)

I must admit that I`m definitely envious of the book collection, I wish I had that many :D

Anyway, given that you`ve started off it's only fair that I introduce myself ^_^

I`m Soulhunter, I`ve been collecting warhammer for about 7/8 years now :) my main army is chaos mix of CSM, Daemons and Renegades although at the moment I`m having a hobby crisis with my CSM.

I mainly play casual games with friends and when I did go to a tournament for the first time I cam 13th out of 16

I used to be a lurker last year on B&C in general but this year I`ve decided to come out into the open with this community :happy.:

Hi guys.

I'm Commander Dawnstar, and despite the name and portrait my dalliances with the T'au have usually been pretty short lived. I was introduced to 40k back in 3rd Edition and had the good fortune to play Chaos during the glory days of the 3.5 Codex. Big fan of Berzerker Glaive nonsense :happy.:

I've experimented with a wide range of armies over the years and still have a pretty broad spread of models in my possession. At this point in time my foremost 40k armies are my Iron Warriors (formerly a 30k force but becoming steadily more Chaos-y), Sisters of Battle (with a small Black Templar allied force) and T'au (who will probably find their way to eBay eventually). A big part of why I've got through so many armies over the years stems from issues with self confidence. It's all too common for me to hit some sort of issue that builds into a nigh-insurmountable mental block and eventually forces me to step away from whatever I happen to be doing. My T'au have been a major victim of this, being at once the faction I intended to get back into 40k with during 7th and the least complete of my main armies. I went through a pretty big spell of getting stuff commission painted over the last 18 months to get past my own issues finishing projects so that I could get things on the table, but since the turn of the year I've been doing my best to move back into doing the work myself.

I don't really get to play 40k. Much like I mentioned above, I have big problems with social anxiety which have led to me finding it extremely difficult to reach out on my local GW's Facebook for PUGs as that's become the go-to method for arranging games. I've probably played four or five games of 40k in the last 18 months, and this despite my Iron Warriors being tabletop ready since about September of last year. It just isn't something I find very easy at all.

I'm really very thankful for the B&C, events like the ETL and all the encouragement from guys like you because it's a huge factor in helping me find the motivation to keep working through things.

Nice to meet you all.

I'm Freakshow, or just Show for short. Just found B&C about 2 months ago and joined 2 weeks ago but been collecting, painting and gaming for 33 years now, beginning with the original WFB 1st edition.

Kind of fell out of the hobby for about 3 years and just came back to it after last Christmas. Currently working on an Emperor's Children army with a few other plans whizzing around in the back of my head.

Hi. I'm Scourged.

Best I can recall, I've been active on the board for about three years, roughly. Mostly I joined at first to get involved with the Inspiration Friday thread, but have since expanded my influence, if you will.

I've been collecting and painting Chaos since, uh, I think 2012? Yeah, around the time our sixth edition codex dropped. Naturally, I was drawn to the simple fluff paragraph for The Scourged and began painting accordingly. That is, until a combination of better airbrush skills and Traitor's Hate culminated in the rise of my Alpha Legion. Mainly though, I've only been playing since 8th.

That's, uh, that's about it, yeah. So, again: hi.

Hello Dragonlover!

I'm Ultramarine vet, and I've been into 40k for about 9 years, ever since I was 13. As you might be able to tell from my name, I am an Ultramarine player, for the most part. I am building my own chapter, lore wise and model wise, which I look forward to posting about on here in the future. I am a big advocate of fluff and lore, and I'll often field my army accordingly. Since you have that very impressive collection of books, you will probably get messages from me about it. With all that being said, I'm a fairly casual player, but no less competitive. I've been with B&C for a little over 4 years now, and I'll usually kind of lurk around and post on a thread here and there. Lol. I'll also say, I just came back from a somewhat long break from 40k, about 8 months or so. Thus I haven't been on here much either. I just got done moving and settling in to my job and whatnot. But it feels amazing to be back to the hobby that I know and love.

Its good to meet you all! The Emperor protects.

Hi, I'm Daemon Prince Marbas and I have been in the hobby about a little over a year now and I'm still working on my first army of CSM. I'm choosing between Night Lords and Alpha Legion at this point and having a lot of fun with the Chaos Community at this point. The hobby helps me with my mental health problems through artistic expression and lorehammer. It's nice to meet you guys. Thanks.

Mallios, here.

Fairly new lurker to B&C, started 40k back in December.

I've had Heroscape stuff for probably 14 years, then I got a ton of Dust stuff, then I played Hordes for a couple years, so minis aren't exactly new to me.

I am still in the "assembly" mode with my CSM, because I'm a sucker for magnets and my time is split many ways. I'm planning on mostly Iron Warriors, but I can't escape the draw of Black Legion, so my paint scheme will be dark metallic with gold trim, and a bunch of magnetized shoulderpads so my guys can pass as either.

Battle Captain Corpus (Dave),

Been on the B&C for 11 years so far. Mod Cedo (that means I used to be a Moderator). Been an avid collector of GW since 1989. Working on Black Legion with Crimson Slaughter elements this year, with a Post Heresy/post Siege of Terra possibly Sons of Horus collection coming later this year.

Ex GW store manager/cell manager in a past life too. For all its sins it taught me to love the hobby no matter what.

I'm more of a Grey Hunter around here than a Blood Claw anymore though, so grey hair and a strong axe arm :D

Hey everyone! I'm Leonite, or as I once went by on here, Wulfen Lord Leo. That name alone probably tells you without me needing to say, but I got into 40K at the tail end of 3rd Edition - a cousin had left his starter box in one of my cupboards, we found it when he was over and I was hooked, the 3rd Edition BRB was the biggest book I had read at the time and I was so hooked that I brought the 4th Ed one with me on a week long student hike... to my displeasure in the end, but I digress

I tend to be on and off on here, but this is an on period for both here and my Warhammer, as throughout pretty much 4th to 6th I was bouncing between armies. Orks, Loyalist marines and SoB's of all kinds, Eldar... I still have most of the parts and I use them for conversions. Even Kroot Mercs at one point! But I got big into Chaos in 6th, and dedicated my main army to Word Bearers a few years later, having had them more generic beforehand. At the same time I got a whole heap of 30K Death Guard that I now am converting and painting to use as both 30K and 40k, and with the release of the Thousand Sons Codex and models I've got them too.

Thousand Sons admittedly are my favorite legion even since 3rd edition, although Word Bearers appealed even then. I'm a SUCKER for Egypt in general, and the backstory of them just makes me love them even more, but I am a gourmand of lore and novels. While I'm not at DragonLover's level, the prize novel of my collection is Into the Malestrom, the first time we see Huron Blackheart's design, and an old copy of the Inferno comics.

(And before anyone questions why I didn't get 30K Thousand Sons... because at the time I got my Death Guard Thousand Sons didn't even have parts, and when I got the conversion I'm now using to mascot me in ETL they didn't have rules!)

I'm GreaterChickenofTzeentch,

Joined B & C in 2016, but had been lurking for much longer.

I have been playing since 3rd edition dropped (started with "big book" Chaos Marines and then moved on to the 3.0 Codex from there), with a hiatus during most of 5th.

In addition to a background in Logistics and Computer Science, I've been involved with a few projects in the pen and paper RPG industry.

As for armies (both Sigmar and 40k), it's all Chaos, all the time, with the very slight exception of a few Order and Death armies in Age of Sigmar.

The only Chaos faction I'm not really down with is anything Nurgle. Just personal preference.

Like many here, I've shifted mostly from playing to hobbying given my children and career, but I manage to get a game in every 2 or 3 months and maintain close contact with people who play much more regularly (helping them with army design and such).

Current armies for 40k:

Thousand Sons

Iron Warriors

Night Lords

World Eaters

Black Legion (specifically Black Lions/Fallen)

Renegade Knights

Khorne Daemons

Tzeentch Daemons

Renegades and Heretics

Warp Ghosts

Love reading all these details, adds so much more to the names and avatars I am used to seeing.

I'm hush and have been a member for about 8 years. I've been interested in this hobby since 1999 or so when I first saw a 40k diorama while at the mall. Due to moving around and where I was living I wasn't able to get into the hobby until 2008 or so when I moved to Austin, Texas.

I've had a little bit of everything now up until recently. Purged all my hobby stuff (different games systems and forces I collected) recently and just kept my Chaos goodness. I've always liked CSM as I have always enjoyed seeing the 'dark mirror' image of anything good. Star Trek, for example has the Federation with their noble ideals and in the mirror darkly there is the Terran Empire with their ruthless ideology. So I just love seeing when a fine astartes breaks their oaths.

Currently I am trying to work on finally having a fully painted army. I have three CSM projects going all at once at different speeds as the muse and energy take me. I just want to play some fun games with everything fully painted for a change.

See y'all around the B&C!

Hi Everyone!

I'm Paradill and I have been a member for a whopping 8 years! I am a constant lurker but don't post a massive amount (and can never be bothered to upload a profile pic, to my eternal shame).

I've been in to 40k since 1995 when I started with a metal SM dread, a load of single pose marines and a love for Ultramarines, luckily I quickly realised that Choas was much more my style both visually and tabletop/lore wise so I switched to my first chaos army a couple years later and never looked back (Alpha Legion).

I've been collecting word bearers on and off for the last decade or so (with occasional forrays into World Eater and Alpha Legion allies) and I am currently building a "shadow host" of astartes cast adrift from their own legions/chapters and absorbed into the command of a Word Bearer Dark Apostle.

I love pretty much everything about the hobby from Black Library to gaming/building/painting to artwork.

I have four kids, a wife and a tight budget so I'm pretty nifty with conversions and scratch builds (particularly proud of my restored rhinos and land raiders built from loads of damaged ones I collected for cheap) and after ten years of practice I think my skills with painting microscopic cunieform are pretty decent.

Pleasure to meet you Dragonlover/everyone!

Hey!

Well kinda like Dragonlover, I havent been around this forum much in the last 6-8 months. Hope to be around a bit more in the next few though!

I have been in the hobby since 1997, and collecting Chaos since about then. (Though the first Chaos Army I owned was Chaos Dwarfs in WFB). Chaos is my primary army though I havent painted something for my chaos 40k forces in some time (I have been working on Chaos in AOS though).

Just before I dropped off the map last year I photed my complete chaos collection, thought it was worth a share again!

Good to meet you all folks! It's nice to see a mix of hoary old guard like myself and some newer blood to the hobby, keeps things fresh.

@DuskRaider: Ever painted any Dusk Raiders, or just purely Death Guard?

@Soulhunter: What's this crisis you've run into with your CSM?

@Dawnstar: Anxiety sucks, but I'm glad us here at the B&C help somewhat. If you ever find yourself in Essex hit me up for a game, yeah?

@Scourged: Not enough people painting warbands if you ask me, one of the reasons I did The Harvest when the Daemonkin book came out. Also I don't like bright red World Eaters for some reason.

@Ultramarine vet: You get lost there loyalist? Jokes aside, good to meet you. Ever tempted to cast aside your oaths and join the forces of the Eye? And please do PM me about novels.

@Marbas: Why choose? Either do both, or pick a totally left field colour scheme and then use whatever rules you like!

@Mallios: Welcome to the board! Magnetised shoulder pads? You madman, that must take forever!

@BCC: Ex store manager? Don't envy you that one bit, even if I nearly ended up doing the same a few years back. I'll stick to the LGS with zero corporate mandates, much easier!

@Leonite: I can't see the weight of a 40K rulebook being something fun to add to a hike! At least 4th was paperback I guess?

@GreaterChickenofTzeentch: Fantastic username, for starters! Also that's a very impressive collection of Chaos, got any pics?

@hushrong: I really need to catch up on your plogs.

@Paradill: You should start a project log, I love refurbished stuff! Also any tips for tiny cuneiform are gratefully received, as there's a non zero chance Word Bearers are the next Legion on the list...

@Uveron: Ah, a fellow veteran of the Long War! That's an impressive collection there dude, did you make it into this year's ETL?

At one point I did paint a Dusk Raiders Praetor for an abandoned Zone Mortalis army I was going to put together. All Breachers in Mk. II armour, had most of the parts for it too but in the end used them to make my Word Bearers Breachers instead.

Hi everyone,

I only recently joined the B&C in 2016.

As you might have guessed, my main army is a Tallarn IG force which I started back in 2000.

But in 2001 I joined the forces of Chaos. I started Chaos Lord Evita's Death Guard army using the old White Dwarf Chapter Approved rules. The disease and entropy themes appealed to me.

3rd edition DG was a blast. I sure miss my old Plague Riders and, for some reason, I really miss my Dreadnoughts going crazy and mowing down my own troops. It was always hilarious to do that. And the look on my opponent's faces when I did that was always priceless.

And in 2002 I started Chaos Lord Duvalier's Night Lords army using the White Dwarf Chapter Approved rules, the one where you could take 4 fast attacks and furies. I really liked the idea of rapid flanking forces instilling terror in foes.

In 2016 I started up Renegade Commander Dnegrah's Renegades and Heretics army because I had tons of accumulated IG, Empire, and Cultist infantry models and because my Chaos forces needed cannon fodder. This year I began Daemon Prince Azrath's World Eaters force because I was asked to join a 4-person tournament team where each of us themes an army after a Chaos god. My assigned god is Khorne.

I now have about 6,500 painted points of Chaos and about 1,000 unpainted points.

As with many of you, its hard to find time to game, but I manage 1 to 2 pickup games a month and a couple of tournaments a year.

My future plans for Chaos include the following armies:

-Khorne Daemons: a nice complement to my WE

-Nurgle Daemons: also a nice complement to my DG

-Emperors Children and accompanying Slaanesh Daemons force: the concept of excess leading to corruption interests me

Death to the False Emperor!

@Dragonlover: Not a whole lot going on project wise for me. Black Legion are the twinkle in my eye and there is still a lot of building and painting to do. But I think I have settled on a paint recipe so I should be cranking out painted minis. My current list for 1750 is Abaddon (which I am working on making a character to represent him), nine terminators (I have bunches to use but want to get some Justaerin to convert, twist, and warp into service), twenty berzerkers (I have about thirteen done with some conversion work in there), and two land raiders. So hopefully this will be my first painted army. It's not a great or competitive one but I like its set up.

Emperor's Children are going to be slow going and my Alphas have become reverse glacial in their pace.

How about yourself? I am looking forward to seeing more legions!

@Ultramarine vet, I wasn't going to say anything as all will end up serving chaos eventually. You're just getting a jump start :)

This thread seems like a great idea.

Hey guys, I'm Slan Drakkos. I've been interested in 40k since my senior year of high school (about four years ago) and started playing in 7th edition. I was directed to this website by the same guy that got me into playing with plastic crack (he's the same guy that gave me a primarch for free). I've been a member of the B&C for about a year.

I play Salamanders, and genstealers currently. I just sold my old chaos army (emperor's children) and am now looking to build an even better Emperor's Children army. Expect my WIP thread some time in the next week.

I'm Kriegsmacht and I've been off and on this forum since 2004 which was also the year I started buying 40K product. Most often end up going nowhere with the projects over the years. In 2014 I started playing another game system so a lot of my purchases and playing was with that and i drifted away from here.

Last week I decided I want to give it another try and bought Mortarion and Lord Felthius and his crew. I made a thread in the Death Guard section to help motivate me to do more and hope to one day actually play a game.

Hey everyone, I'm Dizzyeye.

For myself, I've been on and off 40k over the last couple of years, going between Chaos, Space marines and back again a good couple of times. Guess Tzeentch must be happy with these frequent changes :biggrin.:

Most recently, I've gotten back into the hobby due to some of my friends building up their own armies and right now I'm currently working towards getting roughly a 1000 points up at least in order to have something to bring to the table. As of this moment I've got the following in various states of WIP:

  • two squads of 5 man chaos space marines
  • a three man team of Myrmidon/obliteraters ready for war,
  • a chaos lord in terminator armour,
  • a 10 man cultist squad
  • a chaos hellwright/warpsmith
  •  1 rhino
  • a sicarian venator
  • 5 man beserker squad

My plan is having the above be Iron Warriors and once they're done, move onto more units including cult units but move into them being sorta mercenary forces being hired into the army. I've got a few ideas such as Blackshields form the heresy being around along with renegade Iron Hands as Plague Marines etc. I've got a lot of ideas in my head so we'll see how it goes
