Jay, a wide selection of slaves; sexes, races and body types would be cool. Humans, Eldar of both types, tau, etc.

The original had slaves that appeared to be Sisters, so maybe an variant of the existing ones with a bob cut and a little more muscle?

Oh, we`re hearing our auditory. Raidmaster will have all kinds of optional slaces and also optional torso and heads, so any group could be offended by it :)

To go in the other direction, I want to say that I was pretty put off by the slaves on the model shared. I'd definitely be interested in some alternates that are a little less pinup-y! Thanks for taking feedback into account on this one.

Ork specialistz were released today: a tekk themed weird boy, a mek, and a painboy.  The rest of the ork range is also on sale to celebrate!

p.s. also vect and added prizes is fine with me, looks great, people are too quick to jump and shout nowadays about the slightest thing that offends them....they're dark eldar for emperors sake...having 2 female slaves sitting next to you like an 80's fantasy film is the least of your worries  .... would people be less offended if their skin was flayed off of them :huh.: ...

I would love flayed prize slaves to be honest. When they're just hot babes it can start to feel like it's meant to titillate the viewer, which could be a troubling thing to eroticize since they're literally slaves. Plus, what are the odds a sadistic alien tyrant would just happen to be into the same things humans typically find attractive?

Not at all trying to start an argument here, just offering an alternate perspective for the sake of completion. I think they took the perfect approach with this new solution: offer all sorts of different slaves, so the end result can be customized to whatever the modeller wants. Personally I'm hoping for some weird alien slaves B)

I like this figure a lot but the gun is bothering me for a number of reasons

Ngv3Hsw.png?1

  • Unless this is an energy weapon in disguise (it has none of the normal laspistol characteristics), it appears to be a ballistic weapon with a magazine feed and no autoloading mechanism - they require either a blowback/gas operated or recoil system to eject the fired round and chamber the next one and nothing of the sort is visible here.
  • If it's not an autoloading system, there doesn't appear to be a mechanism to manually chamber a new round.
  • No visible ejection port. It could be on the left side, but most pistols come with the ejection port on the right due to the majority of users being right-handed.
  • I understand the aesthetic of the futuristic/vintage weapon thing, but without some extremely bizarre mechanism (that probably can't fit in the space anyway), there's no way that percussion cap hammer could ignite a normal ballistic round in a metallic cartridge case.
  • If it's a caseless ammunition system, they require a lot more room for the action than a gas operated or recoil system (H&K G11's large size for an example)
  • If it IS an energy weapon, why the hammer? To look fancy?

I hope this doesn't come off as pedantic, but I hate when people criticize something - like just saying "The gun wouldn't work" - and giving no explanation for the criticism and I try my best not to be a hypocrite.

Welp ;)

And the hammer is there because it's an archeotech hot-shot laspistol which requires the operator to prime the battery before firing. It being "primed / connected" all the time would overheat the weapon. Boom, explained.

Alternatively, "a magos did it".

It makes as much sense as the belt ammo sticking out from the magazine well in Chaos weapons.

"In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium no one gives a rat's ass about weapons design."

Your example could be plausible though. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to imagine a conversion from a mag feed to a belt feed. And creators should care about getting the actual, physical things correct. For most "real" sci-fi and fantasy, authors will go to great lengths to get all of the physics of the things we take for granted in our real world correct because it then makes the fantastic that much easier to accept. There's more hand waving in 40k of "oh it's space magic, just accept it" and it's just a cover for laziness or incompetence. As much a fanboy of Dan Abnett as I am, he makes a lot of technical errors about weapons and it just completely takes me out of the immersion of the setting. It's like seeing a movie where the bad guy has a suppressor on a revolver (it wouldn't dampen the sound at all), or the bad ass ex-Navy Seal hero is walking around with his full auto machine gun and the bolt is locked to the rear (magazine is empty, chamber is clear, weapon won't fire).

To give you an example of what I mean, here's a post from Hyaenidae in the In Memoriam thread where he used his real life experience as an Army Ranger to give a much more realistic feel to these marines loading up in an assault boat and preparing for a breach. It's a modified version of similar equipment checks his unit would do and there's an incredible realness to it that just pulls you into the scene instead of a lazy error kicking you straight out of it.

It has both a box and a tube mag :tongue.:

Oh, I forgot about that one! I don't think it's a tube mag, but looks more like the extractor rod housing from a revolver that you would use to push the empty shells out of the cylinder.

To get this somewhat back on topic, I think Artel W is one of, if not the best, third party manufacturers putting out stuff for 40k and I usually love their stuff so much and this one little thing was a big visual speed bump.

Ahh yes, you may be right about the extraction rod. Didn't think of that. To be fair though, it's all just decoration to make it look purty... which it does. I'm with you on the OCD when it comes to portrayal of firearms in models and film, I'm okay with this though. Inquisitors are always walking the line between the grim darkness of the far future and the streets of London circa 1762 (or older in some cases).

I agree as well, Artel has what are probably the most beautiful third party models available. I keep meaning to post the Kommandos I painted up just before Call of Chaos but something always distracts me.

Speaking of which, Artel... do you plan on releasing more Kommando models? There's not enough to field a proper Kill Team without redundant models and unfortunately yours are out of scale with GW so my OCD won't allow me to field them together.

+ silenced Nagants, silenced S&Ws, it's all been done, as long as there's a gas seal. It's not about the gun being a revolver.

I am aware of FN Minimi that is belt-fed and also can use the standard NATO magazines, I've used it.  The problem is the belt-fed mechanism is not working through the magazine well, it's a separate part.

That medic and engineer have really impressed me. They seem to fit the GW Ork aesthetic more than most companies but the engineer in particular usesimagery that GW Meks have been lacking. I love the hardhat and the adjustable lamp, and the grot with the spool of wire. I'm very tempted by these. I could spend a reckless amount of money in their online store. :p

In a world with skyscraper sized mecha, flying dreadnoughts, and all kinds of pseudoscience, the design of a gun is where you draw the line?

Yeah. Did you not read anything else I wrote? There are no titans, dreadnoughts, super soldiers in power armor, alien life forms, or city-sized ships that open a portal to hell for interstellar travel in our reality, but there are lots and lots of guns. As another example, Mal's gun in Firefely has some of the exact same problems as this because it began life as a revolver and was then dressed up to look like a semi-auto using a magazine, but at least that one looks like it could actually function.

I did lead off with a disclaimer that it could be an energy weapon in disguise when I was making my bullet points, but if it's a ballistic weapon it's all kinds of wrong for the many reasons I already listed.
