Your most expensive 40k year?

Just thinking about the hobby budget for the year and it’s looking like it’s going to be the most expensive for me by far.

Started with some Ad Mech and Forge Bane, then the Knights hit. Got Titanicus in August, likely Kill Team at some point, Rogue Trader before year end along with the Knight Preceptor. And if rumours play out some new Ork stuff some where in there.

Plus I’d like to get all the AT releases as they come, so that’s at least some reavers and warhounds plus cards.

And if Kill Team gets its own range like Shadespire, there’s some more potential buys.

I had considered getting the tomb of the necrons and the blitz bowl games but based on the above, I might skip them now...

How’s your year looking? Every had a year with more potential purchases than this year?

Probably this year. Bought a copy of BoP, bunch of limited/event only stuff, few LCTB orders, couple of Contemptor Dreads, going to order all the Counsel options from FW (some multiples for bits) as well as the command sets and if the updated DDP comes out this year I'll want at least three.

And I really want to build an Inq 28 Inquisitor and Retinue which I want to be a very eclectic mix of models from numerous sources.

This year for sure. I even finally got around to selling models I never use to buy more. 2 Forgebanes, the new Necron SC box, a quick 2000 points of Thousand Sons, both Dominus Knights and various other purchases. I have so much hobby backlog that I don't even want to buy new models for the first time since getting into the hobby.

All Ive gotten this year so far is the Eisenhorn model, a codex or two, and some sprues from betrayal at calth. Last year though, I went all out on a Dark Eldar army and 100 paints and paint schemes for it. So last year was my most expensive by far. But it is summer, now that Im free again, I can go hard.

Last yer for me was probably the most expensive but this year could eclipse it.  It's Forgeworld... it's always Forgeworld: Blood Angel air cav with a Thunderhawk, Storm Eagles, Xiphons, Fire Raptor, jetbikes (counts as attack bikes), it was bad.  And that's saying a lot as I put together 10K Sons of Horus in the past three months, funded by selling off five 6-8K WFB armies.  I'm putting some cash aside for a potential titan purchase so... yeah, maybe this year.  We'll see.

In the space of 6 hours I made myself a liar... fun.  This year is the most expensive year. On the other hand, I was right, it's ALWAYS Forgeworld.

Hard to be certain, but I feel like it was probably the year in between Calth and Prospero; I bought 2 sets of each on release and a load of accompanying Forgeworld kits, plus Deathwatch Overkill and a full Genecult Army, Blood Angels Successors and a massive Minotaurs force (which I subsequently sold most of).

I don't feel like this year will be far behind though, I've built 8 separate armies since 8th Edition came out... (and just pre-ordered the new AoS stuff, not that it counts in this context)

I'm trying to focus on finishing the high price stuff that I already own, but I've gotten in the habit of checking the cable rate daily and as it continues its downward trajectory there are multiple FW items that become more attractive to me, mostly the random ass guard vehicles from 6e.

Probably 1990 as a proportion of my income. I was pretty poor but spent way too much on realms of chaos and elder stuff.

In terms of absolute cost, it may have been 2008. To be honest I don’t track costs anymore. I tend to only buy stuff if I’m running out of things to paint.

Last year, I think! Dark Imperium did it for me.

But as a proportion of my income I spent way too much in '07. Thinking about it, I might have spent more than last year on various bits and pieces, trying to scratch some ad mech together before they had official models.

My first year of University; I spent about $500 in an afternoon and somewhere in the region of $300 over the rest of the year, despite being the poorest I'd ever been.

I actually still have a couple of sprues from back then that are still untouched.

These days I'm looking at under $200 a year.

I can narrow it down to Games Day 2001. Walked in with £300, walked out with more Tau boxes than four people could carry and an empty wallet. Since starting back in the hobby last December I've spent maybe £150. I wasn't as ebay savvy back then!

-laughs a bit- I tend to be the one who does our gaming group's FW orders, so the vast majority of my completely irresponsible spending is heralded by the phrase, "How far are we from free shipping?"  Warmaster's teeth, that gets expensive quickly.

But a titan... a titan is a weird thing to be waiting for.  It's Schrodinger thing, man, it doesn't exist 'till its in your hands but you can feel the physical dread of having to build it and the vague sour regret of having spent so much on it, while that little voice that says 'it's not real, none of it really is'. The even worse thing for me is that FW never sent me a tracking number.  I've built a Thunderhawk, I'm prepared, I know what I'm doing.... No, no I don't.  I expect hideous wailing, gnashing teeth, and sundered sackcloth soon enough.

@Lord Interrogator Stobz, mate, how'd you deal with that?

Pretty well, I just hid from it for a few years until the shock subsided :P

You’re going to be very happily surprised at how much easier a Hound is to build and paint than the Hawk.

Look into the DA ETL18 Outpost for my WIPs (no linky on phone sorry).
