So what’s changed?

Simple question after a good year of life living, travelling adventures etc I’ve decided to pick up my hobby again.

Now onto the fun part; choosing a faction to partake in so ladies and gentleman help a grater out!

Long time I know but the B&C sure has changed and want to know who my loyalty and allegiance should be given too.

Since rules change much faster than fluff gets retconned, you’re always going to be happier in this game if you go with a faction the inspires and engages you, personally.

Or whispers dark secrets in your ear when you’re alone.

Hey man, long time.

The game is updated often now. Are you clued up on 8th edition?
40k has become so popular that Games Workshop had the best performing stock on the London stock exchange.

Unfortunate the Heresy has slowed down and lost a lot of steam.

Hahaha thanks guys honestly I have no idea anymore; rules wise no clue coming in as a clean slate

Model wise; heresy just hasn’t got its claws in me like it once did, looking at all the factions I’m not sure really I love everything. I might go the other of a do it yourself chapter but this could be a great chance to branch off into a different style of army then I’ve ever done

Also what pic hosting sharing sites does everyone use I know B&C have there gallery but as I’m still rarely at a desktop I was hoping to find something that’s easy like photobucket without being photobucket

Bounce around the subforums, and take a look at all the B&C, goodness, and see what strikes your fancy. Perhaps you'll find the guard (Astra Militarum) to your liking ,or Admec. Perhaps the foul Xenos will take you . Welcome back, and have fun.

For photo hosting and posting, I’ve found personal cloud storage works well, though I’m the only one who seems to do it.

I use my Dropbox account and post images here by linking to the originals there. At least Dropbox are very unlikely to pull a Photobucket on me and kill all my links overnight.

So what armies are you interested in? You mentioned the starter set - it's pretty amazing.

The new Death Guard and Primaris models pretty much shame the Marine ranges that came before.

Primaris models don't put the rest of the marine range to shame, the whole marine range is excellent.

The Primaris models are more proportioned towards normal ideal human proportions in some ways, which is good for people who like that sort of thing. But they have some proportion problems, such as calves and feet being overly massive and poorly proportioned backpacks.

Also, some of the units have some...odd designs which stray far from the marine aethsetic, and the kits are less multi-part and customisable as well.

Heresy stuff is being changed from rolling releases and upgrades to splash releases once every yearish. The new Blood Angels praetor model is the best one so far, so Malevolence is probably going to be a solid release. The new Demons list is going to be super customizable and have options to show the diversity of demons beyond cookie cutter kits.

Pretty sure the OP isn't looking for an argument over whether Primaris Marines are the right size or whatever.

Anyway, with regard to what's changed, the speed of updates for sure. We've had 19 Codexes in the last year with another 3 due imminently, and there's an annual Chapter Approved book which rebalances points costs across the game, as well as introducing new stuff like missions, stratagems and so on. Regular FAQs are set to be a thing too, although they were a bit late with the first one. GW now periodically issues "Beta rules" and determines whether to change or implement them following player feedback .

Rules updates* The studio has consistently shoveled out new rules and left most ranges entirely untouched. Its been a 'holding pattern' year, with only a handful of cool 40k releases and ZERO new primaris models for individual chapters, instead using weird shoulder pad sprues that arent very high quality.

Agreed, so I've done some clean up.

Anyway, KingKurama, I'm a big fan of working on things I like the look of, so I'd suggest finding something that looks cool and going from there. The B&C is open to all 40k factions, so feel free to explore whatever catches your eye!

Sure, it's certainly true that the majority of those 19 Codexes have come without accompanying model waves, which is also a change from the past where new Codexes only seemed to arrive alongside a handful of new kits.

That said let's not overlook the fact that the Primaris and Death Guard ranges are entirely new factions with 20+ kits each. We haven't seen a 40k faction get a release of that scale since the Dark Eldar got relaunched in 2010, let alone 2 within a few months of each other. In addition we've had the Custodes expanded into a standalone army, 2 new classes of Imperial Knight and new Genestealer Cult kits on the way.

By comparison to previous years this one still feels like it's had a lot of new model content, even if it has been focused around two particular factions.

and ZERO new primaris models for individual chapters

If I'm being pedantic, both BAs and DAs got a unique Primaris Lieutenant model, and presumably Space Wolves will get one too.

Lol are you guys incapable of customising the models a bit?

I recommend the Primaris to someone on the forum and droves of complainers about them start to appear

You didn't actually recommend anything.  You just made a slur against other model ranges, you shouldn't be surprised when people push back.

I would recommend Custodes to the OP, they are a visually beautiful army with a large range of FW addons available should you feel like splashing some cash :smile.:

Good point about the Lieutenants, but you still see my point. We used to get splash releases with a new Codex that made it worth picking up on a splurge purchase, but now it feels more detached. You get cool ranges all at one (Primaris/Death Guard) or slow drip releases (Knights). Custodes were kind of like an old school release with a kit and then a bigger splash release with the Codex (which ironically is why I probably thought it was well done :D )
