Dynasties

How do you guys think the Dynasties hold up compared to each other? I've been playing around with all of them a bunch, and I wondered if my results were typical with what you guys were finding.

Sautekh - I've played this one a couple times and I don't hate it but I don't love it. The first time I played I didn't really try to make the most of the Dynastic Code, it was my first game with the codex and I just made a weak but fluffy list to try it out. It did okay against a fluffy marine list but nothing great. My second time playing with them I was determined to make the most out of the Dynasty but I think I over diversified, trying to use every heavy weapon and character. It was also an ok game but not great. I need to try again with a more balanced list.

Nihilakh - I wasn't sold at all on Nihilakh out of the book so I brought them against Orks. My opponent is a newer player who struggles to play to the mission so I thought Nihilakh would be a good opponent for him. I took objectives first turn and just waited for him. It was okay - Tesla Immortals with overlords were amazing but the reroll didn't really help anything else. Doomsday Ark was more productive this game than ever before but still not great. I think you need 3 at least to get some use out of it. The problem with Nihilakh is you can't afford to stand still against most armies. Even when I was able to because everything was coming to me it wasn't enough of a boost to warrant not moving. The stratagem is nice but every time I've used it after the first my opponent just falls back to avoid the fight.

Mephrit is great. It's nice against almost every army (not Orks or daemons) and you're going to get in half range a lot for rapid fire anyway so it works well.

Novokh I haven't had luck with but I think that's due to bad dice both of my games with them. I lost nine wraiths on a single turn one game, costing me most of my punch. The other game I just couldn't get an average roll to save my life. Scarabs that never advanced or charged more than 3" at a time, lychguard that fail to wipe a 5-woman squad of sisters, just a big mess. I will say though, Novokh Lychguard with a Lord are amazing. I need to try this dynasty again when my dice aren't pissed at me.

Nephrekh I haven't used yet. I want to but just don't have the right models to make the most of the code. I really want to try a swarm of canoptek monsters with some Cryptek support.

How have you guys found the different Dynasties?

I haven’t used all of them, so just off the ones I’ve used:

Mephrit is pretty good. I think it’s the one that most benefits our entire army. Like you said, most of our shooting is short range, and we’re pushing to midfield anyway. I don’t often use the stratagem, seems a waste of CP for only on a natural 6. I also haven’t had a chance to try the sniper CCB using the relic and warlord trait, As the opponent I was going to try it against was all knights....

Novokh is also pretty good, but obviously more situational. You have to get into CC, but once in, I feel it really boosts damage output. The stratagem to fight twice is also pretty good. And if your going to make a CC Overlord I think their relic is great for those much needed additional attacks.

Nihilakh is meh to me. I play Cadians and it works better for them. I don’t think Necrons do gun line very well.

My big gripe with dynasties is their character auras don’t work on each other. I usually bring both mephrit and Novokh and I would get far more mileage from my characters if I could.

Sautekh I use for my Doom Scythe (usually played as an Auxiliary Detachment) since it lets me hit on 3+ with the death ray, though when I used it for my main Code I was underwhelmed. Just didn't need to move around as much as what it seems to want.

Novokh is my go to for an Outrider Detachment led by my Overlord and including my Lychguard and Scarabs, Wraiths as well points permitting. I've had a ton of luck with this using Crimson Haze as the Warlord Trait, as well as the very occasional use of Blood Rites against foes that have narrowly escaped destruction that really need to be destroyed.

Nihilakh I plan on using in a Spearhead Detachment of Doomsday Arks, though until I get the models I have in mind for it the lone DDA I have will see use in an Auxiliary Detachment.

Mephrit I use a lot since it suits my collection. I play the Voltaic Staff on a Destroyer Lord and though the AP bonus is mostly wasted on Destroyers I've found tossing Extermination Protocols and Talent For Annihilation together on six of them to be pretty great at putting wounds onto the bigger bads I face (hard stare at Knights and Daemon Primarchs). Alternately TFA has been pretty great on a unit of 20 Warriors.

Nephrekh I haven't used but have been tempted by for Wraiths and Destroyers. Wraiths can zap 18" across the table ignoring terrain to charge with Adaptive Subroutines while Destroyers are held in Reserve with Translocation Crypt to drop in where they're needed, keeping them safe from getting deleted T1.

I agree it would be great if character buffs weren't Dynasty specific, I too am often put off mid-game by only having models able to work with certain other ones. Code soup has a kind of bitter aftertaste

Mephrit : I use this when I have tesla heavy armies. It makes a huge difference but only when in half rage. Typically having Immortals within 12" of an enemy unit is not a good place for them to be.

Sautekh : Pretty much only good if you want any named characters ( Immotekh is amazingly fun but super expensive for what he does), Hyperlogical Strategist trait, and DDAs. I have actually tried to stop taking this as much. I almost never actually use the relentless advance. Methodical Destruction can be very good in some cases.

Nephrekh : I ignored this one initially but this has turned into one of my most used codes. Putting destroyers in Deep Strike is extremely beneficial. The 6" auto charge is great for getting onto objectives and I usually take a lot of tesla assault weapons. Wraiths ( one of my favorite units ) are amazing with Adaptive Subroutines and auto 6" charge. It also allows wraiths to reliably get into combat in turn 1.  A Destroyer Lord with Nanoscarab Casket and Skin of Living Gold (-1 to hit WL trait) is very hard for opponents to deal with.

Novokh : Adds a lot of damage for CC based armies. Makes wraiths hit even harder and makes scarabs actually do some decent damage. WL trait is pretty good. I often find that I prefer Nephrekh to Novokh though for a CC based army as the wraiths hit hard as is and the increased mobility is fairly strong.

I find Nephrekh to be the most consistently useful trait for my play style. It morphs the Necrons into a highly mobile army.
