Black Templar Kill Teams

Recommended Posts

Is everyone else as keen on Black Templar Kill Teams as I am? The Crusader Squad is the perfect base for an Astartes kill team! It gives us the ideal mix of model types which are legitimately part of one squad. (Unlike some of the mix suggestions GW have put forward which wouldn't happen in any chapter aside from the Deathwatch.)

One thing I wanted to ask fellow fluff fans however: are there any other instances of Neophytes carrying Sniper Rifles other than the section in Haley's 'Circle of Honour' where 4 Neophytes go sniping with an initiate?

It would be nice to have one Sniper Rifle kicking about in a game of Kill Team.

You could hook up some extra batteries to it and run it as a "counts as" lascannon.

That would be a sniper rifle with ZEAL.

I am looking forward to seeing Kill Team again. We used to play a lot of it when it first came out and have pulled some of the online versions to use in a couple of our campaigns.

I dont think Crusaders as a unit will be in, more likely there will be Tacticals/Scouts from which you can make your "crusader" squad. I hope theres an option for Assault Squads as I would love to make an all jump infantry kill team.

It would be one in all but name. What they suggest to run is almost a Crusader Squad as it is. We won't get 'unit' data sheets, but will get ones for Tactical Marines and Scouts. (My biggest fear will be a lack of Chainswords and Bolt Pistol option for the Tactical, but that is tempered by the existence of Blood Claws, which could fit under a similar data sheet.)

I'm not entirely convinced the starter Astartes box will be anything other than the Space Wolves one we saw on the announcement page, which if it is just the 5 Reivers, I'm not that interested. (If you look carefully at the box, it doesn't say Space Wolves Starter Set, it says Adeptus Astartes Starter Set, so I think that's all we are all getting,) so I will probably make up my own from models I have lying around.

@sete oh damn my mistake. I thought there was a chapter tactic for us

@adelard yeah in the announcement post they say pretty explicitly that the starter can be used to make any chapter, not just space wolves.

I expect that Space Marines will all sorta be the same and it'll be up to us to construct the most zealous team to represent Black Templars on our own. If there are chapter tactics, it'll be cool if we get one, but I'm just so excited for this I wouldn't even mind picking another one that fits and painting my guys black. Honestly I'm most excited for Kill Team just so that all the inquisitors I've been kitbashing have something to do.

I still have my boxed unopened somewhere lol.

Unfortunately I am not expecting much for us at the moment.

I could be wrong. But so far things haven't been in our favour.

Weren't there BT rules in shadow war Armageddon? I never played but I looked through the rules when it first came out

in current fluff, the black templar hunting ghazi and no templar is on armageddon any more.

A lot of time has passed since then in the fluff, I'm hoping that when GW returns to Armageddon (and last month's otherwise inexplicable summary of the planet's history makes me uncharacteristically optimistic!) We will be there again in force.

(How much time is itself a subject of debate, I was listening to Dark Imperium yesterday and there was a bit where Guilliman realises that the calendar had changed while he was in stasis, and due to the usual nature of the Imperium's record keeping, and the various calendars in use, the calendars in M41 could be off by as much as a thousand years!

I haven't seen anything that definite. I anticipate the Tactical Marine will have BP/CS options. That's all I need.

its like every time in the last 4 years...  i get disappointed every time there was hope for a better treatment or any kind of rules.

Leaks have revealed multiple disappointments brothers. (

)

I was initially dismayed when I saw that we were not included on the Naming Tables as a chapter, all of the founding chapters are there.

Then, the worst news of all, if you fast forward to 18:45, this chap zooms in on the 'tactical marine' datasheet. Only sergeants can take Chainswords! :sad.: And the kill team is only allowed one Sergeant!

I'm much less psyked about this all now. :verymad:

I was expecting nothing and I'm still disappointed. As always GW screwd us over.

I won't buy this, and I will be sure to make my dissatisfaction known on the FB page.

Im not particularly disappointed simply because I love small games, sure it may not have all the units I may want but there are plans for expansions in the future and considering how Rogue Trader looks I am very hyped for the unique opportunities to expand both the roster and the 40k universe that this small expansions will offer.

I like Reivers so that will be my Kill Team for Black Templars, I hope this takes off the same way Shadespire did.

Yeah I guess Deathwatch will be the best option for a melee oriented Marine Kill Team. At least you can give each of them a Power Sword and you can make one of them into a Black Shield which re-rolls charge rolls.

Well after having read the rules in full, honestly I don't think you are going to want to go full melee with this game. You can only have 1 melee specialist regardless of how many dudes have ccw. Also I still don't get what people's aversion is to bolters. I get that once upon a time we stopped taking them in games for more cc attacks but in the fluff Templars use them just as often as chainswords. (and always have)

Anyway I'm thinking that this game will be a great opportunity to take "movie marines" and go Primaris. They get 2 wounds and 2 attacks and a better bolter. If you go Deathwatch you get access to SIA which combined with a aux grenade launcher makes up for not having a special or heavy weapon.

Even with the injury table you only have a 50% chance to not die on the first flesh wound. So having a second wound is a huge buff and not a ton of units have it.

Also the lack of jump packs also precludes a pure melee force imo as the charge mechanic is different than 40k in that you don't get your movment first.
