Black Shield, Brother Alban

Black Shields can't take Thunder Hammers - only DW Veterans can. In the WarGear options, Deathwatch Veteran is explicitly named for being able replace their boltgun with a DW Shotgun or heavy Thunder Hammer.

 

Similarly, only Deathwatch Veteran Gunners may select the DW frag cannon / IHB.

Irbis - Why D2 is So important? You only make one wound roll to see If ir is flesh wound or out of action? No matter how many wounds you inflict. But Maby i don’t know something

 

 

Because when you take enemy model out of action, you discard the remaining hits. This is why 3 shot weapon with D1 can only inflict one standard injury roll regardless of how many times you'll hit/wound. Multiple D gun gets bonus on injury roll, from what I read even in seemingly illogical cases (like W2 model being hit by single D2 shot), giving you better chance to eliminate enemies. I suppose it's a way to assure not everyone will be armed with combi-flamers and other auto-hit weapons as most of these are D1.

 

Also, have you seen "IG" dice on preorder? They couldn't make better DW dice if they tried, especially after really annoying, hard to read numbers on 'real' DW dice :whistling:

I still use my Deathwatch dice a lot. They can be fickle to read but are at least brightly coloured. I’d be worried with these about people telling me they can’t read them, especially at tournaments.

 

They do look nice though. They would be good for DW but I had hoped they were doing DW dice specifically.... maybe not. Second concern is the price. To get 24x D6 would cost me about 70 bucks CAD. Ouch!

Here's a Link to some of my KT models, and below is a picture of some others being painted. I do NOT paint, but am responsible for all modifications, posing, & kit-bashing. I like the Xenophase blade and beak helmets a lot. The models shown use bits from Captain Artemis and various ones from DW Overkill. The Frag Cannon ammo pack is from a heavy bolter and modified to remove the belt feed. The Death Angel Veteran to the back right has the bolter from Vael Donatus and modified to have a longer barrel using a lascannon scope. I never liked how chaplains look, but the Ortan Cassius model was easily converted to a librarian.

Somebody like xenos swords ...

They look cool as heck lol.  I've been tinkering around with another KT list after reading some reddit.

  • Watch Sgt: Stormshield + Xenophase Blade
  • Black Shield: Stormshield + Power Maul - Zealot
  • Veteran: Stormshield + Power Maul - Combat
  • Veteran: Shotgun - Comms
  • Gunner: Frag Cannon

I'm not sure about the FC / Shotgun which & who should be a specialist; maybe bring IHB instead?  A multi-melta could even work here since it's a borderline free kill on whatever it hits.  I realize no one here gets to use SIA, but I think this still leverages DW tools.  I'm not suggesting take this to every fight, but may be a fun alternative.  I like Zealot on the Blackshield since he can re-roll failed charges.

         Watch Sgt Leader w/ Power sword, combi-plasma

         Blackshield Zealot w/ Power sword, stormshield

         Reiver Sgt Combat w/ Heavy bolt pistol, combat knife, grapnel launcher

         Vet Gunner Comms w/ Frag cannon

         Vet w/ Power sword, Boltgun

I've come to accept that a DW KT will never be more than 5 models, so you might as well go for all the toys you can afford.

Figure the gunner can use the comms ability on himself and mainly snipe with +1 to hit frag rounds. Would Demo be a better spec?

Reiver Sgt will be a combat beast with a total of 5 attacks.

Blackshield will get 4 S5 attacks on the charge (which he gets to reroll).

Plasma on the Watch Sgt adds a good punch.

And then just a good old bolter/power sword guy.

I pefer comms b/c it can benefit anyone within 6" and offsets the penalty for firing at max range.  Cover is huge in KT, and I'd rather have a bonus to hitting, b/c 1+ to wounding means nothing against an obscured target if you're not hitting in the first place.  Maybe my logic is flawed, but it's a conditional probability where wounding does not matter when you fail to hit in the first place.  Additionally, using SIA Hellfire rounds means wounding on 2+, so hitting becomes that much more valuable for DW.

 

I may have this totally backwards, but that's how I value Comms > Demo or even Heavy.

I played my first 2 games today: the game is really cool and fast !

Both games were against Tau (2 Stealth, melta and minigun, a pathfinder and a sh***tload of drones), I won both, only losing my zealot black shield in the second game.

DW is really awesome on this game

With SIA, that isn't as crazy as it sounds.

Personally, in campaign play, I feel you want at least two fire teams to recruit into. If you don't have enough fire teams, you risk losing progress or recruitment catchup, since you only bring in one dude at a time per team.

just a quick point you dont make a list like you guys are you make a list of 20 guys then pick out of that list 100 points worth of stuff. See page 62 from the kill team rulebook

Mmhmm, but that still means sharing your 100 point combos is worth discussing.

yea but you should be making the combo based on opponent and terrain more then just here is a random 5-7 guys also the build up of a diverse group of 20 would be a better discussion as it covers more what ifs.

Then go ahead and string four of these suggested kill teams together for the roster?

 

Not sure why this is an issue. I find it exceedingly useful to discuss the teams we've tried and how successful they've been (or not been) from a TAC and faction focus perspective.

 

I haven't had a chance to play any games yet - nobody locally has the time with everyone I normally grab a game with trying to focus on an upcoming team tournament (or traveling).

 

How have heavy thunder hammers fared?

Well played a few games now with Necrons, although I enjoy playing them in 40k, I did find it was a little lack luster, and I've always loved space marines and now team death watch seem so much fun and versatile in KT.

 

But after going through this thread, it was mentioned that SIA costs 4pts, but I can't find the cost any where in the rule book

That's what I thought, but I think it was page 2 or 3 that it was mentioned

I think it’s two points tax for a veteran and 4 for Primaris (bolt rifle and bolt pistol). The vets only come with bolters. I think it’s tolerable, though, as SIA has an arguably much greater impact on a Kill Team scale compared to a game of 8th. Not to mention Dragonfire is actually really useful in KT whereas I have yet to use it in 8th. Right there, SIA is 25% more valuable to me.
