How to play 40k vs fantasy

Recommended Posts

By the warp!

What if the warp sent a fantasy army into the 40k universe or vise versa?

Personally, I'd love to see 40k rules for fantasy armies and then play against them. That would be fun as hell!

Is there anything like this?

1st Edition 40K and 3rd (4th?) Edition Fantasy Battles were explicitly set up for just this thing.

Warhammer 40,000 employs the proven and popular game mechanics of the Warhammer Games System. Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Battle Rules can therefore be used in conjunction; you will find creatures and weapons from one game will be perfectly usable in the other. Even magic, psionics, aliens, monsters and equipment have been designed so that they can be transplanted between the two games.

Since 2nd edition 40K, not to my knowledge.

The old (I think it was 3.5ed) Necron codex had a ton of cool scenario ideas, one of which was using lizardmen to represent the descendants of the old ones (the book suggested you tweak the rules a bit but didn't give any hints on how to). If you wanted to run with this your best bet is probably to use 8th ed fantasy rules and 7th ed 40k as a base as they're quite similar (taking bits from 8 ed 40k as needed).
