The (different) colours of Nurgle?

Bone/green/brown are the usual colours found on Nurgle miniatures, but what other colours would still be suitably Nurgley whilst being different? Would purple work or maybe even yellow?

Well, purple (and red) are often used as accent colours, most successfully (IMHO) on the cloth elements.  I think purple would be difficult to use as a main colour, however.

 

Yellow, however, provided it was a more muted or "natural" yellow (rather than the brighter yellows seen on t imperial fists or Iyanden models) would work - so more of a mustard colour.  So, a yellow that is closer to the browns you might find in the more normal nurgle colour pallet.

I say use whatever colours you want. It'd make a nice change to the typical creams and greens you normally see. I'm considering making a Nurgle kill team in red. Think Dornian Heresy Blood Angels and you won't go too far wrong.

 

Any chapter can fall to Nurgle, so fluff wise you can have any colour. Want a really clean looking silver to contrast with all of the pustules? Go for it.

A few years ago Forte made the claim that any colours could be used to paint a burgle model and backed it up by allowing the community to pick the 2 main colours he would then use to paint up a single plague marine. Unfortunately I don't remember the selected choices, but I wouldn't be surprised if the thread isn't still knocking around somewhere.

I experimented a bit with this very issue. I agree with Brother Doctor Ruminahui:

I felt a pus-like yellow was the one that worked best for me:

The yellow I achieved through a simple but unconventional method. I didn't use a yellow paint. Instead, I started by basecoating all these Nurglings matt black spray, THEN a slight white spray from directly above where light would fall (so the basecoat already had natural shading). Then I washed the whole thing a GW ink, Lamenters Yellow. Then I washed with GW's Reikland Fleshshade. Finally, I drybrushed with white paint. That gave it a more organic look imho.

Thanks to your question, I also considered an alternative colour for, say, Plague Marines. I am thinking like a rusty metal/brown/orange scheme, because rust is like the decay of technology, while brown and orange are like these autumn colours of wet, rotting leaves that feel organic. I'm not sure, it might be a future experiment, just sharing the idea now.
