New Kill Team - Orks

Anyone here planning to build an Ork Kill team for the new game?

I've got a set of Kommandos that i've never used, they have been half painted for nearly 5 years, but now they will finally be getting finished and used in Kill Team

Might pick up the Ork set too, as I have a friend who wants the Servohaulers so we may split the box

I haven't given it any thought. We're talking about buying it for the terrain mostly but I don't have any interest in the units so if I do buy in I'll have to part with those.  As for playing it depends on how flexible the teams are. I am not interested in preset kill teams. I haven't really followed the rumors so I don't know what's what just yet.

The more I can do my own thing with my kill team the more I would want to play.

You can pick a team made up from a number of different units - even have a Gretchin leader if you are brave/bonkers enough

The types you can use to make up a team (for now) are: Boyz, Burnas, Lootas, Kommandos and Gretchin

Faction focus:

I just skimmed that lol

I think I want to see the "rules" and team building lists and all that stuff, Hopefully I can buy that second hand or something as I really don't need more burna boys...I have about 40 of them already.

I might paint my Harlequins for a kill team if my friends play as I have a bunch I have only started a year ago and it would get me going on that project., maybe...

What kind of Kill team are you planning?  Anything stick out to you that your excited about?

I'm definitely building a Kommando kill team. I've had a squad half painted on my shelf for years, and now i can use them in a fluffy way - one their own being 'propa sneeky gitz'

Might build a squad of Deathwatch or some Reivers too

There's some unboxing vids on YouTube now - Tabletop minions has a decent one where he goes through the book

  • 2 weeks later...

As I've never played Orks before, I'd like to play them in KT, they seem fun.

Running burna biys, but for a total laugh I'm also looking at a team of 20 get him on the table. Since you can have a team of 3 to 20, so as many gretchin as I can fit into a team with specialists, just a fun team to play with.

So what other teams are people using, I'd love to see what makes a good ork team

I mentioned it in my WiP thread, but I'm planning a fairly eclectic team, with a Kommando Nob, a spanner (finally, a reason to build one!), 3 boyz, 5 grots, 2 burnas and a loota. My theme being a mad Kommando nob leads a scavenging party on a bender, finding good fights and choice loots.

I haven't had any experience playing Orkz since 'Ere we go and Freebootaz in Rogue Trader/second edition. I'd love to do a Kill Team in a Freebootaz style looks wise. Perhaps a Lieutenant of Badrukk and his retinue.

I haven't run the points yet but I am planning to field Grots, Kommands a few boys, spannas and lootas.  I was thinking a Kommando Nob as the boss.
I've hardly skimmed list construction so far. I'm not sure I want burnas wyet but maybe 1 or 2 later.

I'm going to see what looks balanced from that and spend the rest of the points on Grots.

Running burna biys,

This.

scavenging party on a bender, finding good fights and choice loots.

And also this.

However, I’m relatively new to Ork lore as well, which interests me more than playing the games in any case.

I am thinking, at present, an Ork Mek to lead the team, up to 3 Burna Boyz and another 4 Regular Boyz for my starting lineup. I need to get and check the book yet to see if that fits with points levels.

I am also a bit stuck on which clan and colours to go for. I always thought if I did Orks it would be speed freaks that would get me, but Bikers aren’t allowed in KT so the choice of clan is less clear for me...

Yeah! You could say there were scavenging so they could assemble their own ride.

I got my first killteam member down (see my thread), a heavy specialist loota. I'm thinking of switching from a kommando nob to a regular nob, because I want to have a big choppa, which is sadly not an option for the kommando version. Next up, I'm thinking of making a burna boy with dual burnas mounted on the backside of his wrists. I'm not sure if I'll see that one through, as that just sounds like a lot more work.

I seriously considering buying two boxes of Gretchins and surprise my group with a Kill Team of 20 Gretchins ... oh right I also get +4CP because it's only 60p. The tactic will be to throw everything at one target at a time and see what sticks, make it slip and hopefully break its neck. :teehee:

Played my first two games today, both against Deathwatch. First game was me wiping him out in 3 turns, the second was my killteam breaking in 3. It's important to keep your boys all grouped up, as losing a few means any solo model with a flesh wound might just get locked in shaken with our poor morale. I had a loota, a spanna, a burna, and a boy all shaken one turn, just standing around doing nothing. I had only lost 3 or 4 guys, but boy oh boy, is that enough to mess you up when you're leadership 6 without anyone nearby.

I'm busy building 2 Ork kill teams

First one is a Freebootaz force, the Kaptain will be an Ork Nobz with Kombi-Skorcha, first mate is a Loota Spanna, Second Mate a Loota using a Flash Gitz model, and the Third Mate is a Burna Boy. Rest of the force will be a mix of Grotz and Boyz, using Khadaron weapons for the boyz, and the Khadaron bodies for the grotz.

The second idea will be a Kommando force, using my Kommando models with twin pistols, and the odd Ork gunner and burna boy foe heavy support.

I'm a little embarrassed to say but I am struggling with building a kill team.
So if I understand we can have 1 leader and 3 specialists.
What's bugging me is what's a specialist? Is a loot a or a burna a specialist?  Is a gunner ?
What are grots? I feel my problem is with the layout of the information. I find it hard to follow.

Or, are these just models in the list and you assign the label of specialist to up to 3 of them?
Any help? I'm feeling might stupid trying to sort out what is probably very simple.

Any model can be a specialist. What kind of specialist is noted on the Datasheet of the unit. You are the one who decides which mode is what kind of specialist by just noting it down on the models sheet.

A Loota is not a specialist by default but he can be a specialist if you want to (Combat, Demolitions, Heavy or Veteran).

A Burna Boy is not a specialist by default but he can be a specialist if you want to (Combat, Demolitions, Veteran or Zealot).

A Ork Boy Gunner is not a specialist by default but he can be a specialist if you want to (Combat, Demolitions, Heavy or Veteran).

A Grot is not a specialist by default but he can be a specialist if you want to (only Scout available).

There are several layers of what a model can be. The datasheet -> The model type on the datasheet (Loota or Loota Spanner for example) -> Specialist or non-Specialist

You got the right feeling. I hope I could confirm it for you properly. ;)

A specialist is someone that has a specialism, IE veteran, heavy, demolitions. For example, if you have ten boyz and two boyz gunnerz with a big shoota and a rokkit, by default, none of them are specialists, you would be able to bring any or all of them as a fire team. Or, you can instead decide that the rokkit is going to be a demolitions specialist, the big shoota is going to be a veteran specialist, and a choppa boy is going to be a combat specialist, filling all three of your specialist spots. They would have to be designated as such when they're added to the roster, so no "well this guy is a specialist this battle, but not in this battle".

Does that help at all?
