Kill Team subforum?

Recommended Posts

With Kill Team coming out this weekend, how about starting up a new subforum specifically for that? People could post battle reports, narrative games/campaigns for others, and allow everyone to bounce around different ideas (kill team lists, ideas for house rules, etc.)

If Kill Team ends up being as supported as GW is currently claiming (they're practically pitching it as a core pillar of the company going forward) I can see the argument that perhaps "Other Games" is insufficient.

Time will tell, I suppose.

As in all things, Kill Team will be monitored. If it becomes popular enough to warrant a space of its own, then it would be evaluated again. Until then, Other Games is the place to go.

But in saying that it can get bogged down from other post etc. I mean if you look right now there are post in "Other games" and individual post about "Kill Team" within sub forums which makes the whole thing very unclear and clogging up space.

Whether or not Kill Team gets its own dedicated forum, using the "Kill Team game" tag (I think that's the one I've seen used) will help. You can search for topics using a tag identifier, narrowing it down as you like (e.g., all discussions in the Other Games forum with the "Kill Team game" tag, all discussions anywhere on the B&C with that tag).

The only thing a dedicated Kill Team forum will do is break the Kill Team discussions that are taking place in the Other Games forum away from the discussions about other games such as Necromunda, Adeptus Titanicus (eventually), Space Hulk, Imperial Knights Renegade (don't see many of those), etc. Even if a dedicated Kill Team forum were created, I doubt we'll see a stop to discussion in the faction forums. The tags are the key to finding the relevant topics, regardless of where they take place.

I'm not opposed to the suggestion for a dedicated Kill Team forum, but I think the line of discussion about topics in other forums is a red herring.

There shouldn't really be any Kill Team discussion going on in the faction sub-forums.

=][= Kill Team discussions belong to the Other Games subforum. =][=

A better solution would to be to split Other Games into two sub-forums; Digital Games and D&D/Tabletop Games, with the latter covering Kill Team, Necromunda, Battlefleet Gothic, the FFG RPGs, etc.

To clarify, KT discussions about the rules or upcoming release should be in the KT forum. Kill teams themselves though, 1K Sons for example, can be discussed in their faction forums as well.

Similar to having a WIP thread in both PCA and your faction home.

It is an evolving situation as we see what kind of traffic is being generated.

To be fair, to make it completely clear we'd need a Kill Team subforum with all the factions as subsubforum in there since it's an entirely new game. However that would be way too much without knowing how popular it will actually be.

In the meantime you can use the search function with a combination of the kill team + faction tags if you're looking for something specific I guess. ^^

For now, we won't be creating a Kill Team (sub-)forum. Once we see how the traffic levels off (after the initial excitement), we'll see if a change is in order.

The default location for discussions about the Kill Team game is in the Other Games forum (for general Kill Team discussion). It is also acceptable to discuss faction-specific issues in the faction forum. Naturally, showing your models is always welcome in the Forge. Battle reports for Kill Team can be posted here in Other Games, in the Liber Victorum (whose focus is battle reports), and in the faction forums (for those factions that participate in the mission).

Tags: "Kill Team game"

And you can add faction name (e.g., "Astra Militarum") tags separately (i.e., not "Kill Team game Astra Militarum" - separate tags for "Kill Team game" and "Astra Militarum").

The tags "kill" and "team" are useless as they mean a whole lot more than this game. The tag "kill team" is similarly confusing as it also applies elsewhere such as for the Shadow War: Armageddon game and the Deathwatch. The tag "killteam" should not be used (don't laugh, I've seen at least three discussions with that tag - I've changed the ones that are relevant to this version of the game). I've also seen some discussions assigning an "edition" element to the tag (e.g.,"Kill Team 8e"). That's unnecessary and shouldn't be done. We can assume that another edition/version of the Kill Team game won't be along for a few years, by which time older discussions will be archived so the similar tagging ("Kill Team game") won't be a point of confusion.

Discussions about the homegrown Heralds of Ruin Kill Team game should use the tag "HoR Kill Team" to avoid confusion.

To summarize, the tag to use for making finding discussions of anything about the new Kill Team game is Kill Team game.

Came to add a voice requesting separate sub-forums for Kill Team, Necromunda, and Adeptus Titanicus, alongside the existing Other Games forum. We have an Age of Darkness area.

I understand you're monitoring traffic, but without named sections content is scattered all over and perhaps doesn't draw the traffic in the first place. Tagging is invisible to mobile users.

Guys, the Admins will watch the Topic generation, Posts per Topic, speed of Posts vs. Topic longevity, and other forum analytical data for the new games (or faction) long-term to see if there's reason to make yet another Other Games forum (or any other forum block), just because there's an initial burst doesn't mean the traffic will be sustained. You don't have to ask for every game or new faction to be considered.

For instance, right now, there are 20 Kill Team topics on the first page of the Other Games forum, but if you look at them all, 1/3rd of those are started by one poster at a pace of basically one per day and aren't over one page in length. Only five-six Kill Team threads are over one page total on that first page of the Other Games forum.

Give it a bit of time and let the proof be in the pudding...

I think adding a KT Sub would make Other Games easier to wade through, as like was said before, it basically is KT in other Games.

I could see Necro, if it was as popular, getting its own sub due to it being so different than KT or AT.

And on that AT could easily fit in a slot under HH, honestly that alone would help the most while requiring the least work.

While I'd love to have for every system and subfaction subforums I don't see the need for now either. Sure, it's a bit annoying that I have to mark the Adeptus Titanicus threads as read to see on a glance whether ther might be a new Kill Team post in Other Games, however without the AT and KT threads Other Games would be pretty dead currently.

I feel like Other Games would be better served by creating a set of sub-forums underneath the section specifically for the spin-off titles; Adeptus Titanicus, Kill Team, Necromunda, etc, then retaining the main Other Games bit for the RPGs and video games.

At the very least the front page wouldn't look as cluttered.

Here is the thing about sub forums for Other Games -- A new game will ALWAYS generate a burst of traffic and then it just dies off. The side games just don't have the level of discussion that the main game does.

So just keep in mind that even if we try this and then it looks like the forums are just dying off we will most likely collapse them back into one again.

=][= DECISION =][=

We have expanded the Other Games forum by creating sub-forums dedicated to the current major games set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Adeptus Titanicus: The Horus Heresy

Kill Team

Necromunda: Underhive

Roleplaying Games

Games other than those whose new forums are listed/linked above remain in the Other Games main forum. This includes games like Space Hulk, Inquisitor, Gorkamorka, Lost Patrol, Aeronautica Imperialis, and any electronic (console, computer, app) games in the WH40K/Horus Heresy settings. You'll notice resource topics in each of the new sub-forums, each providing a default tag for discussions of those games. You can expect a similar resource topic in the main Other Games forum for all of those other games (once I get around to creating it, and it will require considerable time to finish ;) ). The actual structure of those resource topics may change as we adjust from the faction-based resource topics to game-based topics. For example, I've added Warhammer Community links and will probably add Tools links (for things like homemade command rosters for Kill Team and other files that hobbyists can download and use). If you have ideas, feel free to post a suggestion via a reply in any of the resource topics.

In addition to the new sub-forums, the Play By Post sub-forum has been moved under the RPG sub-forum - a sub-forum of a sub-forum, if you will.

The continued need for these sub-forums will depend upon the volume of discussion. Any/all that, in the long term, demonstrate that they are not needed [as separate sub-forums] will be merged back into the Other Games forum.
