Kill Team Tactica - Adeptus Mechanicus

Recommended Posts

So, Kill Team is out, the game is great, and all is right with the world.

Of course, I jumped into it with my usual marines, as I AM a Dark Angels player, but I do look forward to assembling the teams that came with the Start Set. Specially the Skitarii. Since I am not and have never been even close to an Ad Mech player, I would love to hear your considerations on my planned list.

Here goes:

Hidden Content

Kill Team - Skitarii - 100pts

Leader
Vanguard Alpha (Leader), with Phosphor Blast Pistol and Power Sword

Specialists
Ranger Alpha (Zealot), with Phosphor Blast Pistol and Power Sword
Ranger Gunner (Sniper), with a Transuranic Arquebus
Vanguard Gunner (Scout), with a Plastma Caliver

First Fire Team
Ranger with Omnispex and Galvanic Rifle
Ranger with Galvanic Rifle
Ranger Gunner with Arc Rifle

Second Fire Team
Vanguard with Radium Carbine and Enhanced Data-Tether
Vanguard with Radium Carbine

The idea behind the team as listed is as follows:

Hidden Content

First, the Sniper Ranger with the Transuranic Arquebus is joined by the Omnispex Ranger from the First Fire Team, who acts as a spotter. This gives him a 4+ (3+ with Tactics) weapon, rerolling 1s, and ignoring obscured. They hang back and pick shots at prime targets.

Second, you place the Vanguard Alpha with a Ranger and a Vanguard, and the Ranger Alpha with another Ranger and another Vanguard. This gives you 2 teams of 3 that have one melee focused warrior, one mid-range focused warrior, and one long range support warrior. The even split of teams (one taking the Enhanced Data-Tether, the other taking the Arc Rifle) means that they present equivalent threat to the enemy, dividing his focus. And, should a team get focus-fired upon, and taken out, the whole teams effectiveness is less dramatic than if I lost all my rangers or all my vanguards at once.

Each team can push the mid field, press the offensive, and engage in some melee once things get tough, and hopefully handle themselves.

Thirdly, you have the final Specialist. The Scout. I see this guy as a lone operative type of warrior, darting out of LOS across the field with its advance rerolls, to go and breach the enemy lines to take out heavies and snipers with his Caliver, or even hunt down more elite units and lone heroes. Although he is on his own, the Ehanced Data-Tether should give him a hand in resisting the nerve checks, for when he gets hurt along the way.

I would welcome any criticism and suggestions on how to improve the list.

Has anyone used ruststalkers and/infiltrators, how are they in the game, are they useful?

Don't know a great deal about using AdMech, I do like them. I've got the skitarri from the box set and the skitarri from forgbane, so I'll build one set as rangers, the others as vanguard, just don't know whether to get some stalkers or infiltrators.

I missed the opportunity to see Infiltrators in action two days ago, however they do seem very solid. I think I'd keep the Stubcarbine and Powersword. The Taser goad is good as well but not much more than the Powersword (if at all) but the Stubcarbine is a lot better than the Flechette blaster imo.

The LD debuff is great as well since it makes it a good bit more likely for enemy models to get shaken once the enemy team is broken or they get some flesh wounds.

The Ruststalker on the other hand I don't rate very highly. They don't seem to be that much stronger than Infiltrators in melee (+1A and relying on 6s on the wound roll instead of having proper AP or mass of high strength attacks), don't have any shooting weapon and are lacking any form of aura or other special rule the Infiltrators don't have.

I like the infiltrators as the rust stalkers dont have ranged weapons, but the infiltrators are a all round model to harass the opposition.

May have to get some infiltrators to add to the vanguard and rangers I think

So I've only got so far the skitarri from KT box and the skitarri from forgebane. So I was thinking of making 10 rangers and 10 vanguard, I see the transuranic arquebus as a must add, mainly because people see that on the far side if the board and see it as a really big threat, and hopefully make the mistake at coming in closer to take him out.

Thinking on this, I can see maybe adding 2-3 rust stalkers to get into hth to take them out, that those come in close going after the arquebus. And maybe swinging the vanguard/rangers around to shoot the other team to pieces and take and hold objectives.

I'd like to see if anyone has any luck in running all 4 of the units in KT

I'd honestly take Infiltrators over Ruststalkers even for melee.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ive been thinking up lists after some 10 games. Trying to put what I've come to realize about the game to use.

How would this be?

Vangard Alpha (Leader) with Power Sword and Phosphor Pistol

Ranger Alpha (Zealot) with Power Sword and Phosphor Pistol

Ranger Gunner (Sniper) with Arquebus

Vanguard Gunner (Heavy) with Plastma Caliver

Ranger with Arc Rifle

Ranger with Arc Rifle

Ranger with Galvanic Rifle and Enhanced Data-Tether

Vanguard with Radium Carbine

Vanguard with Radium Carbine

The idea is to put a screen, with the three Vanguards together, advancing and shooting. Behind them, the Alphas, supported by the rangers. In the back, the Arquebus, with the Galvanic Ranger to cover him.

Im struggling with how to put an Omnispex in there for the Plastma Caliver... But I cannot find the extra point anywhere.

@Duskraider, nice team, that's almost what I've made, using 1 ruststalkers and put combat specialist on him and get him up the map quick.

My other list I'm building, im looking at using 2 arquebus in the team.

I'd like to hear how it plays out

No idea how duel arquebus will go, after listening to Addeptus Mechanicus:Tech Priest , i came up with this list.

The idea is to have the arquebus on either side up high covering the troops down below.

One other change I'd make is to add a rust stalker princeps and make him a combat specialist, trying to get him into hth as quick as I can

I considered two Arquebus' but the issue is they cannot move and fire. You're probably going to need at least one turn to get them in a good vantage point and if you get unlucky enough to roll on a mission like the one where you need to go from one edge of the board to the other they're either going to be left behind and thus easy VP for your enemy or they're going to be nigh useless as they will never be able to fire. That's why I decided to go with a Plasma Caliver instead. The standard board size is much smaller which means you'll almost always be within shooting distance with it and it'll give most enemies a headache. As it is I've already committed two Specialists for the Sniper role (Arquebus Sniper with his Comm Spotter).

Here's what I've been running recently.

Vanguard Alpha - 10 (Leader)

Radium Pistol - 0

Power Sword - 0

Vanguard Gunner - 10 (Sniper Specialist)

Plasma Caliver - 3

Ranger Gunner - 10

Arc Rifle - 0

Vanguard - 9 (Comms Specialist)

Radium Carbine - 0

Ranger - 9

Galvanic Rifle - 0

Omnispex - 1

Infiltrator - 14

Power Sword - 0

Stub Carbine - 0

Infiltrator Princeps - 15

Fletchette Blaster - 0

Taser Goad - 1

Ruststalker Princeps - 15 (Combat Specialist)

Chordclaw - 1

Transonic Blades - 0

I've really been enjoying running 3 2W 8"M models and scouting 2 of them to get them into combat T1.  I've separated the Omnispex and Comms specialist so if one gets taken out then my Plasma Sniper can still benefit from the other (assuming he isn't targetted first).

So far I've played 4 games with this setup and won each one comfortably, having what I think is the right combination of bodies on the board and combat potential.  Running CC models is a must IMO as 1/4 of the matched play missions require you to kill someone within 1" in order to accrue VPs.

Why Ruststalker over Infiltrator? I feel like the AP-3 and a shooting attack easily outweights the +1A and +1S. Plus Infiltrators have a handy LD debuff aura which Ruststalker are lacking.

So with running a team, is it a max of 10 models in a team? On page 62, first column at the bottom, Battle-forged kill team, first dot point says 3 to 20 models in your team,

I ask because having a skitarri, guard or gsc, you easily make a team of 15 to 20
