Kill Team Tactica: Death Guard

@Prot great report as always.

Your DG team inspires me to get building my own. I have avoided poxwalkers, sold all the ones that came with Dark Imperium. Now with Kill Team I think a box of easy to build may need to come home.

I think that’s a great idea. It’s teally all you need. Some people go crazy with Poxwalkers but it’s a double edged sword which can go pretty wrong. I find 3 works for me. They aren’t fearless in KT which makes a big difference. But the satisfaction of turning a Genestealer into a Poxwalker is seriously fantastic,....and a little messed up if you think about it!

@Reldn the plague spewer along with the flail are auto add ins for me, both are just fantastic. I've found the spewer is awesome against those clowns who try to get in close as quick as they can, only to be met by a poo cannon and with a little luck another meets mr flail to be smash.

Yup sorry Raider... I have to call it quits on that unit!

Seriously though I find with all Death Guard models I can dump infinite time into them.... not necessarily making them look better, just dumping more and more time into them!

The multitudes of times I have painted that Poxwalker he’s always had an orange jumper. Lol

Putrifier - logistics, I really like him and the "armed to the teeth" trait allows him to actually have use of his aura

Tallyman - strategist, obviously I think, you will swim in CP

Surgeon - Melee (+ 1 dam in melee trait from strength) our only melee capable commander option

and finally the in my opinion strongest option

Blightspawn - fortitude, if you want to keep him cheap, lvl 2 fortitude gives him half damage from all weapons

but even stronger

Blightspawn  - logistics, on lvl 3 you can improve Str and AP of his gun, give him (or someone else) a 5+ invul and the best: You can improve the range of his gun to 15". So 15" autohit gun, S 2d6+1, Ap -4, damage 3, reroll 1 to hit. Thats insane.

What are people's opinion on the Blight Launcher?

You're wounding most enemies on a 2+ rerolling 1s, ignoring most armour saves and have a good chance of multiple damage for multiple Injury rolls. Also, I've gained a lot of respect for 18" Assault 2 vs. 20"+ Rapid Fire 1 on KT sized boards.

You can take 2 in a team, making 1 a heavy for mobility and one a demolition for when you absolutely, positively have to wound an obscured enemy.

Not seeing them on many lists mentioned here, wondering what the consensus is.

In my opinion the most important stat on a gun for Killteam is damage for reliable "Out of Actions", so the Blight launcher ist pretty good compared to lets say a Plasma Gun. Especially on Heavy Spec for some run & gun moves. The difference to a (non-overheated) plasma is basically -1 AP for more shots at range and more damage. The Meltagun is even better for reliability, especially with commanders, but ultra-short range. And the two Autohit weapons have a different job, as in killing hordes.

To sum it up, I prefer to run Blight Launcher + some flamer-kind-of weapon for flexibility + a Plasmagun on my leader of course.

I’m loving the Death Guard in kill team! Last night I was in close combat with two genestealers and a lictor. My guy was a combat specialist with a flail of corruption and he was like a tank! Took down the lictor in two turns if I remember correctly. I got three flesh wounds in total but then after the lictor died my opponent had his genestealers retreat. Came second in a three way game of terror tactics.

I've made the following list, will probably used by my son. I'd like to put some other KTeams against it and hope for interesting/exciting games;

2 Nurgle marines

2 gunners: both with blight launcher (the 18" reach one, havent got my book on me now)

1 fighter: bubonic axe

1 leader; powerfist, plaguesword.

100 on the dot.

I've both 2 of those "easy to build" plaguemarine boxes, to convert to a nurgle bloodbowl team. And now I've converted them back :smile.:.

Hence the, maybe-not -optimal build... but I still think it's a decent set-up, and the rules for these models are not too complex.

Thoughts?

@Flint&Steel, your fighter, maybe swap out to the flail, it's still a great weapon for a combat specialist.

Also a thought to drop a Plague Marine to add some pox walkers, if not it's a solid team to use.

Once it's played, write up a report, would be interesting to read how they go

Yeah, but I've already converted him with an axe. The rules are also a tad easier to translate/explain.

And I really like the Nurgle warriors/plague marines, I can always swap one of them with poxwalkers.

Next step: translate the weapons and their effects into Dutch :smile.: along with some rules.

Edit: that reminds me, how/where do you post photos these days? I always used photobucket but well... you know.

Is there an easy site for it, also /perhaps with an Android app for quick uploading?

Played a game last night where I had two 100 point Death Guard kill teams against 2 other players because our fourth couldn't make it. So it was quite interesting. I was up against the dark Angels and Grey Knights. It was the take prisoners mission and in the end I ended up losing 2-1 but I gave them a hard time. That disgustingly resilient was amazing for me last night!

my opponents had trouble capturing any of my squads. In the end they captured a poxwalker then I captured the grey knights leader. so 1-1 on turn 2 if i remember correctly. I managed to take out 3 more grey knights so the grey knights player only had 2 minis left and I also took about 3 dark angels off the dark angel player. But at turn 4 I lost my great plague cleaver and they captured him. we rolled a die to see if we'd carry on but we rolled a 1 so game over.

Loving the Death Guard in Kill Team.

I got 2nd at Clash for the Kids here in Texas this weekend with the below. It was a mini campaign style event so it has 2 leaders (both boltgun, 1 w/ fist 1w/o), one of each gun and melee option, an icon, 7 pox walkers and converted Plague Surgeon (Geoff Plagueboom) and Tallyman as commanders. The swag bag I randomly picked when I got there had the sweet icon pin, a clear sign I had chosen my squad right,
