Emulating "Black tide" with World Eaters?

Chaos doesn't have landraider crusaders, but I'm not here to talk about what we don't have.

I'm thinking multiple small units of Berserkers working in close order with multiple small units of cultists. 10 cultists to 5 zerkers, and back them up with the fastest Dreds in the game helbrutes.

You have the cultists out in front, the zerkers with the brutes in mid, with forward faster elements of a juggerlord, daemon prince, bikers and maulerfiends, with a reinforcement of warptalons to hop on in later turns to disrupt target priority, but the main thrust is a crap ton of cultists and zerkers in small units acting as larger units.

Thoughts?

I would personally salt some Possessed in there instead of the Termies and even think about Warp Talons.

Why? Synergy with the Maulerfiends, Daemon Prince, aaaaaannnnd.....

A Daemon Supreme Command detachment with 3 Bloodmasters, one of whom has the Crimson Crown. Those guys will make all of the Daemon units reroll charges whether they can have an Icon or not (Yay, Maulerfiends!!), and they'll also give them all +1 strength. The one with the Crown will give additional attacks on 6's to wound.

I'd also suggest  an Exalted Champion to buff wound rolls and to fish for 6's to set off the exploding attacks.

While 5 man Zerk squads may sound decent in close order like that, I'd recommend taking larger units - if they are walking then they are almost guaranteed to take hits on the way in, and 5 models will fade pretty fast.

My list only tends to have one unit of 10 in a Rhino backed up by a unit of 10 Possessed walking up behind the 'cultist shield' (2x20 minimum). Possessed are my go-to for assault infantry outside transports for the higher M, 5++, and higher W characteristics. They have a bit more resilience for an anchor unit in the centre while I send my Juggerlord/Spawn and Zerks up one side and the Maulers up the opposite.

This is not to say that Horde Khorne doesn't work... just that if I'm considering MSU infantry to pair with cultists, I'd go to Possessed and Raptors before Zerks. You can pack a frightening amount of re-rolling melta into a small space with a Jumplord and 2x5 Raptors. I take 2x8 when I can because then I can also assault with them quite effectively. Turn 2 that means I can actually target vehicles, and then dare ppl to come assault me when I can just move away and keep meltaing them... or they've already got a Khorne Lord messing up their backline shooting units... The Raptors would basically let you get encirclements alot easier than with Zerks from behind a Cultist screen IMO.

If you really want more than 60 cultists, it makes sense to start looking at Renegades and Heretics as a pretty darn cheap Battalion is possible, and will be quite a bit more fun in terms of unit variety (MUTANTS!)

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.
