Countering the shift in the meta

With knights being the new rage, and locally everyone running ways to counter them, some more effective than others. I have notice this poses more of problem for my list than said knight list.

Running coven list I like to take between 6-9 talos and some wracks, I don't field grots, I know how effective and are great choice.

But all the uptake in firepower to kill knights is putting hurting my on my list. Not to mention the rise in hordes to overwhelm them.

My main problems are list fielding over 200 ork boys, maxed out cheap troops. Basic math makes it close to impossible to shift that many orks, over the course of game, and thats not factoring in statistic of dice and other variables.

20 of burner boys? which ever ones hold the auto hit d6 flamers, drive up and cook something or sit back and cook something. Tripple stack void mines are working and the point cost for this unit is on par with 3 ravens.

horde of nids that just respawn and never die.

Both magus the red an morty in the same list

So looking at few options, hordes of my own. max out 20 man warriors sq with rose to gain the range, and just out shoot them. Loads of blaster and shedders. footslogs my way across the table top.

Wych hordes or MSU backed up by spear head of talos. use the Wych as screens to soak up the mul D6 weapons and than fly the talos over top. The Only reason why i leaning more towards this one is, the other DE player. Is a pure back heart gun boat army just takes as many 10 man and 3 ravger and DL and dis he can fix and fly's in circles. So i want to avoid mirroring his list, as everyone is adjusted to it as well.

Looking for outside the box solution and coming out with some left field ideas, often the shock value of the unseen is enough to throw off a game plan and making them start second guessing themselves.

Whats the best way to approach Wych MUS or 20 strong and just run them in suicidal charge

Have you taken a 'Merc theme' list? My list is basically half 'Deepstrike' and half mounted, with 5 Merc units at 2k... It's IMO the best way of doing something to get strong darklight presence and some Mortal Wounds shenanigans in addition to the obligatory Ravagers and Raiders. Mandrakes are a sleeper hit - if you haven't tried them, I highly recommend.

In essence it looks like this:

2 Archons (Battalion)

Haemo (for the Overwatch prevention, leading a Vanguard Detachment)

Wych (with a bodyguard of wyches, leading an Outrider Detachment)

3x5 mounted Kabalites (Battalion - ignore cover while mounted; 2x venom, 1x Raider for 1-2 Archons)

2x1 Ravager (mixed weapons)

2x5 Mandrakes

1x 'Elite choice to taste' (I usually take Grots/Raider) + Haemo + 1 of the Archons above - this unit gets you the +1CP for the Vanguard, and a nice fun beatstick, and Deepstrike it in the very back of the enemy lines using Screaming Jets)

3x6 Scourges (3 special weapons in each squad; 2x3 Blaster, 1x3 Dark lance)

1x wyches (for a final Raider/beatstick)

At the end of the day that's 2 venoms, 3 Raiders, 2 Ravagers, 5 'Deepstrike' units, carrying 18 lances/blasters (including infantry/Archons), and 4 Dissies. It's not quite as efficient as pure boat spam, but it's not actually far off, and it's (arguably) more fun to play.

This list sits at ~1850 for me... for 2k I just add a Razorwing. It's got high variety, high mobility, MSU, hits like a truck in turn 3/4 with good positioning and a little luck ; )

Cheers,

The Good Doctor.
