Black Templar Allies (Lore Wise)

Hey just wondering, how well would the Black Templars get along with the Blood Angels? Or better yet, Flesh Tearers? I don't plan on fielding Librarians or anything but I do want to field Death Comapny and the Sanguinary Guard. How would the Black Templars feel about them?

They have a healthy amount of respect for eachother tho the Blood Angels might make decisions Black Templars wouldn't do like putting themselves into more danger than necessary to finish the mission just to save a few more civilians etc. (for example Dante almost sacrificed himself, the Captain of the 1st company, some veterans and some more to buy time against the Leviathan to save three Storm raven [or was it Thunderhawks? I forgot] full of Guardsmen during the setup to the Devastation of Baal event).

About Deathcompany and Sanguinary Guard.

Well the Deathcompany is more or less a secret to non-BA. Some of the BA might fall to the Black Rage shortly before the battle begins but it's not like the BA actively deploy them for a mission or something like that.

The Sanguinary Guard are pretty much the elite of the elite of the BA and usually accompany an important Captain or so as personal guards.

So you see both of those units are rather unlikely to find their way as allies to non-BA unless there's also a bigger amount of regular BA on site. That being said it's not completely impossible to happen and you are the one to write yourself a fitting narrative for things like that. It's just not something that would happen regularly.

The Templars have good relations with the Blood Angels.  That said, I'm not sure they'd look too kindly towards the Death Company, but if memory serves they aren't exactly paraded in front of the Angels' allies, either, at least under normal circumstances.

That said, I've been fiddling with an idea for a while wherein the Emperor's Champion, through one way or another, finds himself fighting side by side with the Death Company.  Both thrown into visions of the past, with the Champion's visions rendering his cousin into the noble Sanguinius frenzied into slaughter by holy wrath, while the afflicted Angel sees valiant Sigismund aiding him along the battlements of the Imperial Palace...or something.  One of those little fluff eggs in my brain that don't tend to hatch.

I like that idea there Firepower! I just thought since both Chapters have the common draw about having visions that there might be an understanding.

My bias, I just like the Black Templars and the Flesh Tearers as chapters.

I want to create a Crusade called the Blood Crusade where they both go crusading together.

Well with the exception of the Champion, I can't think of any fluff that really notes Templars having visions of any sort, and relatively speaking the things Angels see are closer to hallucinations than visions (a very debatable position, that).

Both Chapters have similar personalities tactically, though friction would occur over the source of that commonality.  Templars are furious, unrepentant killing machines out of faith and zeal, while Tearers are struggling (and often failing) to contain an inhuman, bestial wrath.  The latter frequently runs into the problem of not caring whether the thing you just turned to kibble and bits on the end of your chainsword was friend or foe.

To be short, the two Chapters could definitely work together, but even in closely related Chapters like the Templars and the Fists, there will be friction, disagreements and some amount of tension.  It's just something that comes with being insular, autonomous forces.  In the case of Templars and Tearers, I think it's a relationship that would wear thin over time as the Templars became more familiar with them and their flaws (and they would almost assuredly regard their curse as a flaw), and I'm sure the Tearers would find some faults with the Templars, as well.  Whether it's enough for them to break apart is up to context and the individuals involved.

In super short- it can work, and there are lots of ways to make it more interesting through conflict as well as cooperation.

If you read Throneworld by Guy Haley, there was a fair bit of tension between the lone Fist and the Black Templars. In particular the Templars worship of the Emperor, which is never explicit, the Templars seem to keep it quiet, but the other successors sense it and find it awkward.

If anything BT and FT fought fogether on Armageddon (3rd war of course) though I'm not aware of any joined operations.

What are the sources about good relations between BT and BA?

there was a old formation in APOCALYPSE with Blood Angels and Templars together.

They fitghted together (BT as IF back then) on Terra.

Both fighted together on Armageddon.

Sanguinius was very impressed by Sigismund.

There is no story where they dont like each other... so it is very likely that they have much respect.
