Shattered legion salamanders 10/5

Brighter than I'd have on my lot, but there's no mistaking them for Aurora Chapter or Sons of Medusa!

I think the gradiation is the key I try to achieve when I've been heavy shading my lot- not quite sharp edge highlights to against dark armour (a la Dark Angels), but to have patches nearer the edges that evoke the colour, but with a lot of it dark because its in a sort of... Inky shadow.

Difficult to pin down, but I always imagine Salamanders as brightly coloured, but in poorly lit/dark room. Splashes of strong colour, but with deep darkness too, rather than strikingly dark armour.

But shading with ink seems to yield that result for me, and it sounds a bit like what you're aiming for with too. :)

Do you have a thread or pictures somewhere so i can see? That would be nice

I'm loving the darker color scheme, I just haven't been able to reproduce it. I'll have to try that 50/50 mix of nuln oil and beil-tan green. As a lore junky, I can tell you that yes, the Salamanders do not use squad symbols. It's just a flame with the squad number in it. Though they are still in standard battle order (Squads 1-7 are tacticals, 8 and 9 are assault, and 10-12 are devastarors).

Cheers,

Branchow

Hey man! Thank you! Sorry for lack of activity. Im trying out a new colour-scheme. I want it more muted green, like the pre-heresy salamanders, will get back soon hopefully with salamanders im more at peace with!

Be careful what you wish for. These are a bit... work in progress.

And some 'newer' ones that I'm still in the process of getting to work on the highlighting.

As you can see, some serious work needed on sorting the whole lot, but it gives you the idea of what I'm aiming for (if not actually achieving...).

And anyway, a lot of that's repairing decades-old efforts from over the years. I'm getting there though. More effort, more patience.

Unto the painting station!

Sorry for not replying @Xisor! Been doing other projects! Nice salamanders!

This is what ive been up to these last nights. I reinvented my colour-scheme. I like it more olive and toned down over my first attempts with brighter colours.

Totally missed this thread.
Here's some pictures of me WIP Salamanders. :smile.:

My camera is pretty meh so I took with both flash on (better focus but overexposed colors) and flash off (worse focus but colors look more real.)

With flash:

Nice Army! Really impressive seeing them assembled like this! Great!!

I also noticed that I accidentally hijacked your thread. :/

Thought this was a general "post your sons of vulkan"-thread, but now I noticed that it was your personal WIP-thread.

Sorry about that. I've put my pictures in a spoiler now, and I'll remove them altogether if you want.

I love that green! Can you enlighten us, as I am still looking for a good green for my own Sallies?

Thanks alot! Of course! Its really simple!

1. Over a black basecoat 2 layers of GW waaagh Flesh.

2. All over wash of nuln oil.

3 overbrush of waaagh flesh to bring colour back up, careful to leave the shading in recesses.

4. Light drybrush of Niblet green.

5. Done

I do like the green that you’ve got to Johan and I agree that the more jewel-like greens are classic for the Salamanders.

However personally I favour the more olive tone that you achieved in your post dated 25th March above. Do you mind sharing how you achieved that look?

I know some people would say it suits Raptors better but I think if I added flames to that olive, it would remain obvious who they were.

Thanks alot brother!

Yes i agree with you. I personally like the Horus Heresy-type olivegreen salamanders as well, but since im also have a Raptors-Army i needed another shade of green :)

The armour is:

1. Deathworld forest over a black undercoat

2. Medium drybrush of nurgling green

3. Light drybrush of ogryn camo

4. All over wash of GW camoshade to bring the colours together.

5. Done :)

I really like the hue of green you've got on these most recent sallies. I'm not a big fan of metallic SM (except purple but that's another topic all together), but you make it work with that green! Just noticed you're the guy doing the awesome white scars as well so kudos to you sir, you've got a great mix of speed and skill! I'm looking forward to what you do next!
