My first Pathfinder and another Firewarrior, this time with a carbine. Probably not the best piece of wargear for 40K, feels like it'll be OK for KT.

Edit: Dang it, barrels again. Will need to finish.

* the carbine isn't good for KT either :ermm: ... take some gun drones in your team too !

if you take an ion rifle guy, make him your sniper and then make the rail rifle guy a heavy(oops)i meant Demo wpn guy  the ion rifle will appreciate the re-roll of one's when you use the overcharge option

oh by the way.... i love  your colour scheme big time!! they look to follow the path of the Scorpion that strikes...it's not Mont'Ka anymore, Scor'Ka is the new Black! :cool.:

Look forwards to seeing your finished army !!

Cheers, Mithril

Thank you for the kind words sir. I've taken to airbrush to get a full fireteam section of 3X5 fire warriors prepped. I'm building my cadre fireblade soon as well. He's awesome, but I'll probably do some subtle changes, a regular firewarrior head and a way to put his fireblade on his body instead of holding in his hand.

Anyway, thanks again for insight and comment.

Cheers!

Oh forgot to ask, what is the Green your using (for future reference:happy.: )

for your fireblade, just use a bonding knife from the warriors kit perhaps.

good luck on the army!!

Cheers, Mithril

I'm using Moot green from citadel.

I plan on changing my painting technique a little bit for the whole army. I'm going to use Caliban, warpstone, moot for airbrushing.

I used some zenithal initially, but my green is so bright it's hard to discern. I plan on just using the triad to try and get some definition when I start doing my crisis suits.

I highlight with a slight mix of flash gitz yellow and moot green. Really only on the sharpest edges. I've done that for my last batch. For the models in this post I used some weird combination of moot green with a little rotting flesh, or whatever it's called now.

I'm also going to change my spot color to black, instead of mechanicus standard grey (with fenrisian highlight). The bright green and grey do not contrast that well. I'll paint 3 stealth suits up with the grey/green just so I can have one squad that looks the same and use them in kill team.

I really want to get working on this army, I'll probably try and do some stuff this weekend.

Anyway, thanks again.

I played my first game with Tau. No pictures, not all of my army was painted.

I lost, but learned some things and would like to share and look for feedback. The points total was about 1400.

I took the following:

Sacea Sept

HQ

Commander (Coldstar), Warlord, Exemplar of the Montka (advance with no penalty to shoot), 4 fusion blasters.

Cadre Fireblade, Engram

3 X 5 fire warriors (1 sgt. with markerlight, 1 unit with tactical missile pod).

10 X Kroot

4 X Kroot hounds

Riptide with missile pods and heavy burst cannon thingy, target lock and ... advanced targeting array? (no penalty to move, +1 to AP).

XV88 with missile fists and missile pods with +1 to AP system.

4 X guardian drones

4 X markerlight drones

Vanguard

Commander (Coldstar) with heavy burst cannon, missile pod (str 7), +1 AP system, invuln save

2 X 3 stealth suits (1 sgt. with fusion gun, all others with burst cannon and +1 AP system)

1 X Ghostkeel (2 fusion, ion raker, no penalty to move, +1 AP system)

My opponent had about 40-50 guardsmen, 3 heavy bolter teams, a russ executioner tank commander, a basilisk, a manticore, and a flame hell-hound thingy. He had 3 X drop squads of Tempestus; 1 with plasma, 2 with melta. He had a ton of characters spread around, including a commissar, Tempestus leaders, and other randoms. Finally he had a psycher. Finally he had a flying custodes bro on a bike with a super spear.

The deployment was spearhead, the mission was brand new out of CA 2018; a single objective in the middle to fight over, with each deployment zone having an objective.

The fight:

He got turn 1 after setting up all of his army. I used the 1st turn stratagem to get +1 to cover.

I set up my ghostkeel and stealth suits near his deployment zone. I weathered turn 1 with only the loss of a single squad of stealth suits. During the game I was able to take out his hell hound, custodes captain, 2 squads of infantry, some characters, and his tank commander.

The shooting from my riptide and broadside was pretty bad. Granted, they were not the right tools for the threats I faced (the executioner). Also, my buddy dropped his tempestus in turn 2 and they basically whiffed his shooting. I was able to killa squad with return fire, and then charge the other two squads with my kroot, who promptly did nothing until they were eventually wiped out.

My commander died turn 3 after dropping his tank commander. My second commander was great and able to run around dropping down infantry and characters like nothing. Unfortunately he was able to kill my warlord and as such was up by 1 point even though the game was back and forth.

I lost. It was close (looked worse than it was as I was almost tabled). This is a bad report, I know, but now my observations:

1) 4 fusion commander is amazing. Also the generic commander was able to scoot around to lend assistance where necessary. I loved him.

2) I need AT. I have anti infantry and anti elite infantry in droves. I only had my fusion commander and fusions on my stealth/ghostkeel to deal with tanks. Thankfully I was able to remove his tank commander and hell hound but I had nothing that could threaten his basilisk as it was screened well.

3) The riptide is awesome, I played him like a putz just leaving it immobile and allowing it to be targeted. I basically relied on shield drones and yeah those die out and once they're gone, well you're a sitting duck.

4) The XV88 Missile bot was cool, but not powerful enough to damage his tank. I should have moved it but didn't want the - to hit.

5) I relied on my cadre and Sacea stratagem to drop markerlights. I would like more, but my targets were either too tough (tanks) or squishy (infantry).

6) My opponent rolled very well on saves, for instance saving 5!!!!! saves with his last 4 Tempestus Scions vs. my commanders shooting.

7) I am not going to give up on Kroot, even though they were pretty bad in combat. They only had one attack and just a 6+ save. They died to the Scions.

Not sure where to go, but probably more infantry and some railgun broadsides. Either that or I'll try the hammerhead but that 1 shot can really go wrong. At least with sacea I'll have the free reroll.

I forgot a lot of stuff during the game, including the free reroll several times. All-in-all I had a good time against a tough army played by an experienced commander. Next game I'll have more painted models and more stuff to field.

Cheers!

That’s a very nice compliment thank you. I have not done any more work, only finishing some GSC for last years competition. I have been in a super slump hobby wise and would love to finish off my admech and move on to Tau and GSC.

Maybe this is the compliment to get me motivated!

Yes, go finish it man !!

It'd be a shame for you to not finish of your T'au force so you can move on to other inspirations (god knows we all do it...half finished stuff scattered about whilst we think of our next new idea...) I only say this cause I bit the bullet after like 2.5 years of procrastination about finishing the T'au army I started... I'm finally doing it and I guess the buzz of actually doing that is making me want to share the feeling :biggrin.:

cheers, Mithril
