Dealing with bloodletter bomb

I had a longer topic that the internet ate, long story short i faced a bloodletter bomb for the first time today. It was a of black legion/mixed daemons. Abaddon, demon prince, sorcerer, 5man CSM, 5man noise marine, 3 10man cultist, 5man raptors and 2 3man obliterators. Demons battalion was herald of tzeentch and one of khorne bloodletters, 8? Slaanesh deamons.

I did well the first couple turns smiting to my hearts content and taking minimal casualties. I ran the list in a sort of diamond formation to protect the characters. He came down with his bloodletters and just crumpled my right side. Very effective, what do you guys do to counter. My list was a follows;

++ Supreme Command Detachment +1CP (Chaos - Thousand Sons) [63 PL, 1212pts] ++

+ No Force Org Slot +

Relics of the Thousand Sons (2 Relics)

Exalted Sorcerer on Disc of Tzeentch [8 PL, 151pts]: Force stave, Gift of Chaos, Glamour of Tzeentch, Plasma pistol, Power sword, Seer's Bane

+ Elites +

Tzaangor Shaman [5 PL, 90pts]: Force stave, Temporal Manipulation

+ Lord of War +

Magnus the Red [23 PL, 445pts]: Death Hex, Infernal Gateway, Warptime

Changecaster [4 PL, 78pts]: Flickering Flames, Gaze of Fate, The Impossible Robe

The Changeling [5 PL, 100pts]: Gaze of Fate

First error, blue horrors.

Never take them, its pinks or brimes.

Blues offer a mere 5% increase in point efficiency of wounds taken over pinks when it comes to endurace when you calculate reduced cost versus reduced save-BUT for that mere 5% durability boost, the unit is now more vulnerable to moral (you'd except to lose 8 blues instead of 6 pinks), the blues can't shoot, and the blues don't count towards Magical Horde cap, or the Magic Made Manifest "semi-proper-smite" cap.

Brimes at least offer a substential 40% durability increase over pinks (33% over blues), even though they are far worse when it comes to moral issues-but keep em in minimal squads and its not that bad-so keep your brime roadbump squads at a 10 brime team and add nothing-at 30 points they are great at filling detachments, and they are honestly still a pretty good roadblock.

Blues for 5 points are overpriced. they'll be OP at 4 though, so I'm not sure what they can do there. if they also had coruscating flames they MIGHT be worth considering, but even then I'd go for pinks without a moment's thought.

You cut out all the brimes, you got 100 points to work with before changing anything else.

Now, if you want to keep your horde going, you can add 10 more pinks to the blob squad, and then another squad of 10 blues.

As for in-game tactics, with a 30 horror blub, I'd actually keep them in DS.

Once his own letter bomb drops, the horror blob drops to counter it, and with the changecaster nearby, they'll actually make really short work of the letters. you can 30 horrors with a nearby +1S source to kill about 20 letters in a single volly.

If you got any source of improving BS, it gets better. say a nearby prince? 23 kills.

At that point, moral will take it's toll and hopefully wipe the squad (unless they invest 2 CP to autopass, or they got an icon and got a lucky 1), but even if not, most of them at dead the punch is gone, and if you managed to manuver to sit your horrors between the letters and anything of value, they can't really afford to change. they'll lose even more to overwatch and will be so few (and so ineffective at actually fighting horrors) that they'll be beaten at CC.

Ok thanks, ill keep the deepstrike in mind. That's not a bad idea. I at the moment dont have the 10 extra pinks or i would field them instead of blues. It is currently a necessity as opposed to desire. When i get the box of pinks im dropping the blues.

Interesting.

I wouldn't know how to face Bloodletter bomb, I'm more likely to be the guy playing it. However I'm surprised that Blues are bad this edition. I haven't fielded them at all since 7th but it's good to know that IF I went the Daemon direction to build on Thousand Sons (again!) I should be looking at Pinks wherever possible and I guess filling formations out with Brimstones.
