What Flavor of Power Armor am I Looking For?

Basically I'm looking for the marine chapter whose playstyle best fits what I want to do on the tabletop. I've been playing Blood Angels for some time now, and they are an absolute blast! However, I find their bonuses to make it so that almost any shooting included in a list is suboptimal. If I wanted a balls-to-the-wall combat army I would have played World Eaters.

I also don't want to swing too far towards a static gun-line. I don't find placing my models during deployment, only to do some light shuffling over the course of a game to be very inspiring either.

When I think of Space Marines, I think of a force that quickly and violently takes a critical point on the battlefield, and then makes the enemy pry it from their cold dead hands. I don't want to run a static gun-line, or a bum-rushing assault list. I guess a balance between the two is what I'm after. what would be the best chapter to represent this mindset on the tabletop?

Sounds like you want something from Codex: Space Marines (as at least you can chop and change between battles as to how you fancy playing from one game to the next) :)

However, how exactly is BA shooting sub-optimal? It's on par with all other Marines armies before bonuses are added!

A bit out of left field, but possibly the Imperial Fists successor chapter called the Invaders?

These crazy sons of Dorn took and and wiped out an Aeldari Craftworld for crying out loud! Very much hard assault and add in Dorn's sons' penchant for defence in holding a point, it might work well.

I don't think its sub-optimal in that it is bad. I'm more saying that other factions do it better. A Dark Angel or Ultramarine Hellblaster is better than a BA one, for example. If you don't capitalize on +1 to wound as much as possible, you're doing it wrong.

A BA army, in my eyes, consists of units that do one of two things. 1. Punch things in the face or 2. Facilitate the previous group of units punching things in the face. In other words, they are more specialized for assault, as they should be. Like they are 70% choppy 30% shooty, Khorne would be like 80%/20% IMO (very scientific I know ). I'm looking for something maybe in the realm of 50% each or 60% 40% in one direction or the other.

I'm not sure If I'm articulating what I mean to say, but I hope this makes more sense lol!

Huh, never read their fluff before, but its awesome! I guess I should mention that I'm going to be doing my own homebrew chapter, and I already have a few test models for the color scheme I want. I'm asking more from a tabletop gameplay or crunch perspective.

By way of example, let's say there is a building in the center of the board with good line of sight to most other areas and an objective in it. BA/Khorne would push into the enemy deployment zone and maybe secure it after most of the enemy is dead. Tau would hang back and blast the enemy to bits before moving in. (gross generalizations, but I think it gets the point across) I'd like to plant my foot on the damn thing and dare the opponent to come to me. Maybe some elements push forward, flank, etc. and maybe some hang back or secure objectives, but that is the general idea. Thanks again, this is helpful. I hope what I'm saying makes sense!

Dark Angels are a take and hold force of Marines, and are still mostly Codex compliant, if that's a thing you want or need.

The Imperial Fists and Successors would make sense from the take, hold, and defend mindset you mention.

For stealth, Raven Guard or Raptors, primarily.

Not that it is all they do, but the elements of the White Scars that favor bikes and Assault Marine Squads would also cover the quick and violent take and hold mindset.

Overall, any single SM Chapter can do what you want, the question that is most important is how you want your Company to fight on the table.

Space Wolves are able to use a solid gunline SM, the Grey Hunter, and, you can currently get every single GH a chainsword for zero points. There is no heavy ranged weapon option for the normal GH pack, as the two special ranged weapons option instead allows for a bit more tactical flexibility and the option to move and fire as a unit. The Blood Claw pack is the SW recruit equivalent, and can go up to 15 BC's, and can still add a Wolf Guard Pack Leader, or, a Sergeant, by another name. Long Fangs carry the heavy weapons on foot, and even if they lack ablative wounds, five heavy ranged weapons is nothing to scoff at either.

I think the concept of the Wolves might interest you. At least, if you want to take a look, please consider looking up the fluff and what you can of the army fights on Youtube, check battle reports online, here and elsewhere, and have a look at what you are interested in trying out. Better to research first than spend a fortune and realize it's not the army for you.

I think Ultramarines would serve you well. The fall back and shoot option is underestimate - just don’t mini/max your squads. For someone transitioning out of Blood Angels in to Codex Marines Raven Guards strategems might be your best bet to build around. Also depends how much you like vehicles and how you use Dreadnoughts.

I’m biased to Raven Guard but Ultras offer so damn much with Special Characters and Relics to go with solid Tactics. Tough choice so yeah ... DIY Chapter ;)

Edit: Blackstone has some real good thoughts on Wolves. They were my first army. I’m curious to see how they play as all Primaris.
