Kill Team vs. Necromunda?

I'm very new to this edition and don't know much about Kill Team and Necromunda yet. I was just curious what the major differences are in general gameplay? I was planning on putting a Genestealer Cult Kill Team together and noticed they have a Necromunda gang now as well. I never played the original, though I am a huge fan of the old Mordheim.

Appreciate any info, just curious about general differences and whether I should give both games a try.

Kill Team plays much faster than 'Munda and is much more familiar to 40k aficionados thanks to the familiarity of the Kill Teams. It has a good concise rule book that it is probably its greatest asset. Because of this it is suitable for competitive play, not because it's perfectly balanced but because the rules are all in one place and they're in a logical order.

Necromunda is slightly more complex and appeals to those more inclined to the narrative or role playing mindset. The rule set is spread over several books and in all honesty it can be a bit of a nightmare trying to hunt down specific rules. Because of this it is not really suitable for competitive play at the moment (although many find that to be a blessing) but every Gang War supplement has improved this issue no end and there will be a compendium released around Christmas time that should tidy everything up.

I would imagine that Kill Team will be more mainstream (popular) than Necromunda, so that may be an issue for you as well.

Personally, I think Necromunda is a more enjoyable experience because of the immersion it offers and the attitude of the players, but I'm one of those people who thinks that 8th edition has lost its soul and it doesn't appeal to me these days.

Both games are great fun to play and share many similar rules, so it all depends on what you want out of a game.

I echo what castigator said. Although if you are a fan of Mordheim I’m going to say you’ll probably prefer necromunda, because the games are very similar, obviously though necro being updated is slightly different to mordheim, but close enough to still be enjoyed if you enjoyed mordheim (I loved both games back in the day so I may be slightly biased)

I love Necromunda.  It's sort of a bridge between Mordheim, narrative RPGs, wargaming, XCom, etc.  The game play of alternate activation works really well and keeps things more tense and any one person has the ability to alter the course of a battle.  I've had an Escher bring down a Goliath with a laspistol lucky shot and alter an entire front.  I've had another time where a random girl brought down a special weapons Goliath with a stiletto dagger only to be counter charged the next turn and dropped herself.  It's tactical and a lot of ups and downs, and you get to see characters rise and fall and become stars.  Loads of fun.

Kill Team is more mini-40K, whereas Necromunda for me is a narrative multi-part RPG with heavy tactical gaming elements.  Totally my jam.  Thankfully the scenary and such is very compatible between the two so it's easy peasy.
