Custodes strategem: castelan's mark

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have a question about the castelan's mark strategem. It says i can remove the bearer and 1 unit within 6" before the first battleround from the battlefield and set them up again anywhere "according to the mission rules". What does the mission rules cover? How many inches from the enemy? I know that the deepstrike rule doesnt affect this because the c'tan deceiver's ability are worded similarly and it can place units 12" away from the enemy before the first turn. Any ideas? It would be nice to teleport 6 praetors and a shieldcaptain in the enemy's face. Or some allarus with vexilla magnifica.

This is 100% a redeployment in your deployment zone, it's also a relic not a stratagem. It can be very useful, you can hide a unit of bikes and a bike captain behind Los blocking terrain and if you find you are going first you can then move them right to the front of your deployment zone to look for early charges etc. Also works the other way with big guns like caladius or telemon, because you are only going to have 1 source of long ranged fire power normally it becomes the target of all their anti tank, and because you are nearly always going to be putting it down first your opponent will counter deploy with their anti tank or precious unit like Magnus. So you can then move your big gun to get out of Los or to get a better shot depending on what you are facing.

Sorry for mixing up. I meant relic not strategem. Then it wont have much use for me. I still try to maximize my custodes as allies and not a main army. I dont want to bring only bikers and i dont find the other options viable in an ig necron heavy local meta. Custodes lack good long range anti armour. Fw also banned in my local group. So i use them as ally to my dark angels. Shield captains + ravenwing + weapons from the dark age. And now i bought allarus because the models are so awesome. I hope i can use them in battle effectively otherwise they would be just expensive meatshields.

Ok going off topic a bit now but as per Black Orange, Alarus are actually pretty great, they are just overshadowed by bikes and the beta deepstrike nerf. These guys hit like a truck and will kill almost anything in combat, turn 2 deepstrike gives your opponent something they must deal with. And if you make a charge it's an enormous problem for them, if you don't they have to dedicate significant firepower to them, giving the rest of your guys a reprieve.
