Tank Transfers

What transfers do you normally put on your tanks and where?

I tend to just use the regiment and maybe a number.

I see the use for the Imperium logo, the skulls, and the old Cadian numbering system, but what about the scythes, lightning bolts, axes, fists and wings? Do they ever have a use?

They are campaign badges, and can go anywhere you like really. Usually you have a regiment/tank number on sides (turret and/or hull sides) so somewhere to complement this works best. Often that's the alternate side, but front of tank guards or rear of hull are common too.

GW have moved away from using campaign badges it seems so the field is open without much comparison ;)

It varies.

I use the white numbers from the infantry sheet (chopping them up to individual numbers for squadrons) and Cadian Gate, Cadia (naturally), the tank names (although I have used all the versions now), the yellow/blue circles on turrets, the fist for Armoured Fists transports, the skull diamond and the yellow/black hazard for Basilisk barrels.

Also if you can get your hands on one... the SoB sheet is great for text

I am a big fan of putting decals on models, particularly tanks. Unit markings, campaign badges, etc.

And particularly warnings and markings for crew and engineers enginseers.

If you have any friends or family who do scale modelling - particularly scale armour modelling - it’s highly likely they have a lot of unused, leftover decals which they’ll probably let you have and these are excellent for super detailing your tanks or adding unique but realistic looking unit badges.

I don’t know about abroad but here in Japan you can get decal sheets from independent makers for detailing Mecha kits, which are outstanding.
