McGibs's Bloody Beasties and other Sundries

McGibs

Recommended Posts

Hey all! I used to post more regularly but stopped once my webhosting lapsed. Well now I've got a fancy new host at mcgibs.com and I figured I'd reboot my miniature blogging with some of the new things I've done in the meantime.

I've been building up my bloody Khorne army for years now, but recently I decided to recolour them. Originally they were traditional red n' brass/gold, but that was way too much red on red. Now they're a nice school-bus yellow with some cool wytchsymbol etching for decoration. The "god neutral" colour also helps justify my apostasy away from mono-Khorne and dip my toe into other flavours of chaos.

I've still got buckets of old and new models to paint, but here's some of my recent converts!

Renegade Marksmen (Noise Marines)

I wanted some proper shooty marines, and noise marines fit the bill perfectly. But glam rockers don't really fit the army theme, so I opted for some upgunned bolter bros. To make them fit with the recent plague and rubric marines proportions, I hacked these guys together with AoS Blood warrior legs.

These guys use beefed up autocannons (or mini battlecannons?) for Blastmasters.

Overseer (Dark Apostle)

This guy was just a blast to make and paint. The AoS whippy guy is such a characterful model, and I did a head and arm swap to make him a little more intimidating. Khorne apostles to not preach! They whip!

Obliterators

I was never a fan of the melty-cheese obliterators, so I made these abhuman fellas weilding massive daemon-weapons. Shame they lost their powerfists in 8th though.

Caco Beholder (Daemon Prince)

One of my favorite models so far. I made this guy from a pingpong ball, lots of greenstuff, and assorted WFB and necron bits. The Faceplate from the WFB Chaos Chariot inspired me to make an entire model based around it, and the floating head/meatball daemons from doom are a classic in my mind.

Kanarak

I haven't used him in many games because it's more difficult to field daemons in my lists, but I enjoyed making this good doggo. Bashed from one of the Santa Sled wolves and one of the hands from the AoS Khogorath(?).

Contemptor Dread

If there's one thing I love more than anything else, it's big stompy robots. This guy was a good excersize in converting the oddly posed plastic Calth Contemptor.

Decimator

My battletech love was bleeding through into this guy. He's not as beefy as the proper forgeworld model, but he's got dreadnought stats so he gets a pass.

Dreadnought

There's still a place in my heart for the dumb washing-machine dread.

I thought I recognised your style. Your 40k skaven turned up in a thread a while back.

Theres too much awesome on your blog, I’m exhausted.

Love the 50s style bubble helmets on you Genestealer cultists I’ve been trying to find the right piece of clear plastic to pull that off myself.

Ha ha ha ha, these are very awesome... a redundant comment I suppose as that's plainly obvious. Never mind, I stand by it. I love your modifications and kit bashes here, so cool.  I especially like the walkers and the Cacodaeom. I've been planning my own take on the Cacodaemon myself! only much smaller, as if a Cacodaemon possessed a Deathguard Plague Marine.  Just so cool, I cant stop flicking up through them over and over. I'm really enjoying the Dread Armiger with the Shield Faceplate. Well... and the other 3 dreads too. So very cool... I just have a big smile on my face. Maximum effort.

Thanks a lot guys!

Here's a few WIP Chaos critters that are awaiting a lick of paint.

Deredeo Spiderbot (Speaking of Doom inspired daemons...)

http://mcgibs.com/wp-content/gallery/workbench/chaos_deredeo_wip01.jpg

I've been realizing one can never have enough dreads...

I had an absence of melee only ones.

http://mcgibs.com/wp-content/gallery/workbench/chaos_dreadnought_wip01.jpg

Doom Drone (Heldrake)

My camera makes this guy a little fisheyed, but I wanted to make a less jet-aircraft looking heldrake conversion, now that they're more like hovering dreadnoughts ruleswise. It's a shame it's so undergunned for such a huge model.

http://mcgibs.com/wp-content/gallery/workbench/chaos_heldrake_wip01.jpg

Also dipping my toe into gross disusing soup with some deathguard conversions!

Here's my take on the Plagueburst Crawler, which... like all GW tanks... seemed to be backwards. So I flipped it around and made it look more like a proper assault gun.

http://mcgibs.com/wp-content/gallery/workbench/chaos_plaguecrawler_wip01.jpg

And what would nurgle soup be without a couple Blightspawn? I had some AoS Blight King models kicking around for a long time, and they're perfect for making gross nurgle heroes with. I also wanted to give them actual chemical-thrower weapons, and not just sloppy garden hoses.

Just brilliant modeling and painting going on here. I too am taking copious  notes.

I've been planning my own take on the Cacodaemon myself!

I wasn't until I saw this one, but now I am. :)

Play on good sir!

You have done some amazing work here.

Thanks in particular for the Plagueburst Crawler idea - I have one which I was hoping to make a counts-as Vindicator from, and I think I’ve now found the “how” :tu:

Love your work, McGibbs!

You've got a really unique style, and i saved almost all of the pictures in this thread to my ''Inspiration'' folder!

That Plague Crawler looks suddenly... right! Such a simple change, but so much better!

  • 3 months later...

Hey guys, got a bit of a backlog dump here, some new stuff, some repaints/reshoots.

I've been playing some more shooty lists, and needed a cheap foot lord to command backfield units. This beefcake was chopped together form various AoS and 40k chaos characters.

http://mcgibs.com/wp-content/gallery/miniatures/chaos_footlord_turn.gif

Chaos lord also needed a weedy wizard lacky to throw buffs around. The cool skull helmet was carved off the DV CSM champion, and was sitting in my bitsbox for years, but was always too small for actual marines.

http://mcgibs.com/wp-content/gallery/miniatures/chaos_sorcerer_turn.gif

Speaking of DV marines, I converted a bunch of the oddball champions into bolter boys a long time ago. Here's some repaints of a couple of them.

http://mcgibs.com/wp-content/gallery/miniatures/chaos_marines01.jpg

Heres a trio of hig honkin gatling guns that are quad-heavybolter Rapier battery. The treads are from some Manic kits I think. My bolter marines usually end up crewing the things.

Repaints of my skittery Bloodslaughterer duo. Legs are from some russian mech miniatures.

Repaint and rearm of my Cycloptic hellbrute.

Repaint of my favorite Defiler stalktalk.

Repaint of my Laser Vindicator.

Thanks guys! Hopefully I'll get some more painting done over the holidays.

Glad to see this up an running again! Do you still have your Imps?

I have my entire retro-marine deathwatch mostly assembled and ready to go, but aside from a test model, nothing's painted.

Impressive. Is this war band pledged to Khorne, or the Chaos Undivided?

It was originally Khorne aligned (go figure), but I'm slowly but surely sliding into Undivided territory (well, most Slaanesh then anything). The orange paintscheme was an attempt to further distance them from a single god's colour. Because of all the guts and gore, they'll always be Khorne adjacent, but I like to sprinkle in other spices.
