Ordo Hereticus All Up In Here!

Recommended Posts

I'm dancing around armies...again. I really (I mean really) want to play an army at ITC that is, technically, inquisition. I have a list (check the armylist section, please, pretty please) that I'm aiming for, however, one of my many problems is that I'm not 100% sold on Greyfax. She's cool but I'm not sure if she's the best option.

I want my inquisition detachment to be mono-ordo, so my land raider prometheus and acolytes will have their quarry rule based upon the inquisitor coming along with them. I also want to have a mostly mechanized force, so Karamazov is, sadly, right out. I consider Ordo Hereticus the strongest of the ordos, with Xenos taking a second and Malleus being the disappointing third, as far as quarry is concerned. Demon AND Chaos is just too redundant. I have all of the special inquisitors besides the FW Xenos guy who's name escapes me.

Do I:

A- Stick with Greyfax because of her psy-defense

B- Use with Coteaz or Eisenhorn?

C- Take a generic

I'll also post some pics here as I get things built and ready to go, but expect a delay on that since I literally just bought a house today and now have to move.

For performance, the generic Inquisitors are sadly lacking currently - they really need the codex treatment (and some decent options too). So a named character would be best, I think Greyfax is pretty nice especially with her defensive skills.

I think you'll get the most mileage from Malleus and Xenos, given that (Dark) Eldar and Chaos soups with mainly Daemons are very popular these days. What you could also do is to supplement you Ordo with a MT detachment and convert them to be Inquisitorial Stormies. Their Primes and 3+ to hit Plasmas will definitely go a long way in supporting a Land Raider with Acolytes.

The problem with Malleus is that both it and Hereticus get their bonuses against Chaos. Since chaos includes CSM and Daemons (including a few others) both are equally good...because reasons. That means that Malleus helps against...Avatars of Khaine, compared to Hereticus which will benefit you against psykers, such as Hive Tyrants or a few eldar fools who get too close.

I'm tempted by Eisenhorn but he has very similar problems as Greyfax without as many benefits. Coteaz means I'm going Malleus but at least he's a fair butt kicker with his fancy armor and hammer.

Ah well, some food for thought, I suppose.

To be fair, even a fully kitted out Malleus guy is far from a good beatstick in a world where Custodes Shield Captains and BA Slamguiniuses exist. I think you should emphasize utility for the HQs and shooting for the army if you want it to do something.

By the way, are you gonna include the Chamber Militant of the Ordos as well? If so, Ordo Xenos sounds really fun.

I don't plan on it at the moment. Part of what attracts me to the Ordo Hereticus is the idea of, eventually, I can use Sisters of Battle with them and it be nice and fluffy.
